Chapter 539 Sister-in-law
Francis looked at Dulce with a particularly strange expression. "You're overthinking it."
"Then why did you invite me to your place for dinner?" Dulce didn't hold back her questions.
Francis said, "Are you eating or not? If not, forget it."
"I'm eating," Dulce laughed. "Francis, I've never seen you cook before. Tonight, let me sample your cooking this evening"
Just as the two were leaving, Gregory arrived.
Joseph's words had stirred some compassion in him, so he came to the hospital to check on Jenny.
The police officer on duty saw Gregory and, after learning his purpose, allowed him to enter.
Jenny was very surprised to see Gregory. She suddenly sat up, the handcuffs pulling at her wrists painfully.
Gregory coldly looked at her belly. "Jenny, you better give birth to this child properly. You can die afterward."
"Gregory, you're such a bastard." Jenny saw no trace of pity in Gregory's eyes. "The child is in my belly. I can let it live or die."
"Then go ahead and try. If anything happens to the child, I'll make sure you die immediately. Don't do anything stupid."
Jenny angrily said, "If you want me to give birth to the child, get me out of here. Gregory, I'm your woman, the mother of your child. You have to take responsibility."
"There are plenty of women who've slept with me. If I had to take responsibility for each one, I couldn't manage it." Gregory sneered.
Jenny, enraged, tried to hit him, but Gregory caught her hand and slapped her back. " Don't test my limits."
Jenny fell onto the hospital bed, a trace of blood at the corner of her mouth.
At that moment, she realized Gregory had no heart. She couldn't rely on him at all.
Jenny glared at Gregory viciously. "Gregory, you will be punished."
"Better that the punishment falls on you, not on me or my son," Gregory said disdainfully. "It is truly unfortunate that my child had to emerge from your womb."
Those words were truly heartbreaking for Jenny.
Jenny hated Gregory even more than Fiorello.
"Gregory, you will die a horrible death."
"I'm tired of hearing that. If curses worked, who knows how many people would be dead by now," Gregory mocked, "Give birth to the child, and I might even arrange a burial for you. But don't expect anything more. Rapists have no sympathy."
After saying this, Gregory walked out of the ward and told the two police officers guarding Jenny, "Thank you for your hard work. Make sure nothing happens to the child in her belly."
The two officers had seen a lot, but this was a new level of heartlessness. If Jenny weren't pregnant, Gregory wouldn't have even come to see her.
Dulce followed Francis back to his place, a two-bedroom apartment that was clean, tidy, and decorated in a cold, industrial style.
Dulce looked around and asked, "Do I need to change my shoes?"
As she asked, she glanced at the shoe rack and was surprised to see women's shoes.
'Isn't Francis single?'
Just as she was about to ask, Wendy Edwards came out of the kitchen with some dishes. "Francis, you're back. Dinner's ready. Who's this?"
Wendy saw Dulce and asked.
Dulce awkwardly greeted, "Hi, I'm Dulce, Francis's partner."
Dulce wasn't sure of Wendy's identity and was afraid of saying something wrong and causing unnecessary misunderstandings.
She had been going out with Francis every day for work recently, so they were partners.
Francis introduced them to each other, "This is Dulce, my friend. And this is my sister-in-law, Wendy Edwards."
Hearing that her identy, Dulce relaxed, though she didn't realize the change of her own emotion.
When Wendy heard Francis's introduction, a trace of awkwardness flashed across her face. She lowered her eyes and tucked her hair behind her ear, saying, "I didn't know you will bring a guest. I'll go prepare some more dishes."
Wendy went into the kitchen, and Dulce suddenly remembered something. She tugged on Francis and asked, "Aren't you an only child in your family? How do you have a sister-in-law? Could it be that you and she..."
