Chapter 473 How much sincerity is there in human nature?

Human nature was a wild ride.Sometimes, folks genuinely wished someone well, but the moment the one hit a rough patch, they didn’t offer any help. People were all about their own interests.

If Maggie hadn't married into the Flores family and climbed higher on the social ladder than Olivia's family, there wouldn't be any jealousy, and maybe the family ties would've stayed intact.

Olivia grabbed a cab to Sunset Hills to find Arya, while Isabella headed to the police station.

At Sunset Hills, Arya was a wreck. She wanted to go to the police station to get the scoop, but Adalia was at home, and she was worried Adalia couldn't handle the news.

Even when Arya made calls, she did it away from Adalia.

Arya called Dulce and found out Dulce was on her way to the police station, which calmed her down a bit. She said over the phone, "Dulce, if anything happens, let me know right away. After you see Maggie, come over to my place."

"Okay, Arya, don't stress. I'll check it out," Dulce replied. "I called Fiorello, but I don't know what's up with the Flores family yet. If things get serious, I'll get the best lawyer for Maggie."

Arya, eyes red from crying, said, "Thanks, Dulce. I really appreciate it. I'm lost; Maggie's my only daughter."

Hearing Adalia coming downstairs, Arya quickly wrapped up the call after a few more words with Dulce.

Adalia, clutching a stuffed toy, stood on the stairs and asked, "Grandma, why isn't Mom back yet? Didn't Dad find her?"

Arya forced a smile, holding back tears, and said, "Adalia, your mom had to go out for a few days. She'll be back soon. Are you hungry? I'll make you something to eat."

Adalia shook her head. "Grandma, did something happen to Mom? Can I call her?"

Adalia clearly wasn't buying Arya's story.

Arya, still forcing a smile, said, "Adalia, why don't you believe me? Your mom's on a plane, so she can't take calls. Your dad took her on a trip to relax. Be a good girl, go upstairs and play, and I'll make you some food."

"Grandma." Adalia said softly, looking at Arya.

Seeing Adalia's innocent face, Arya felt a wave of guilt, but she couldn't tell Adalia the truth and burden such a young child with harsh reality.

"Go on, " Arya said, holding back tears and waving her hand at Adalia.

Adalia pursed her lips, hugged her stuffed toy, and went upstairs.

Once Adalia was gone, Arya couldn't hold it in anymore. Tears streamed down her face as she sat on the couch, clutching her chest, terrified that Maggie might really be in deep trouble.

Thinking of Mark, Arya pulled out her phone and dialed his number. "Mark, Maggie's in trouble. She's been taken to the police station. Can you help her?"

The news about Maggie's alleged murder had mostly been scrubbed from the internet, but Mark was already in the loop and on his way to Sunset Hills.

Mark said, "I know, it's a tough situation. Hard to explain over the phone. I'm on my way to see you now; we'll talk in person. By the way, did you call Fiorello? What did he say?"

Mark wasn't ready to give up on Maggie. As long as there was a glimmer of hope, he wouldn't abandon her. What Mark really couldn't let go of was the Flores family's powerful backing.

Mark was super anxious too. He was scared something would happen to Maggie. He had just started reaping the benefits, with many projects already underway and money invested. Those investors were there because of the Flores family's influence. If Maggie was done for and the investors pulled out, he'd be finished too.So, Mark absolutely didn't want anything to happen to Maggie. And Fiorello's stance was crucial.

Arya had no clue about Mark's hidden agenda. Hearing Mark's concern for Maggie gave her some comfort, making her think that Mark still cared about Maggie.

Arya said, "I called Fiorello. He told me not to worry but didn't say much else. I don't know what's going on now."
