Chapter 364 Mom Didn't Want You Anymore
Isabella quickly looked away, worried her thoughts might be noticed.
Seeing Maggie was done eating, Fiorello cleaned up and said, "I'll take out the trash. You guys chat. I'll get you some water, don't forget to drink it."
Maggie smiled, "Okay."
Fiorello took out the leftovers to avoid any bad smells, which Maggie was sensitive to lately.
After he left, Olivia said, "Maggie, you're so lucky. Mr. Flores is the president of a big company, and he takes care of you personally."
Fiorello's high status made Olivia always address him respectfully. His presence alone was intimidating.
Maggie smiled, "He doesn't trust others. Olivia, Isabella, have a seat. Isabella, I've arranged the renovation design for your coffee shop. I'll send it to you when I get discharged tomorrow."
"Thanks," Isabella said, sitting down. "No rush."
Olivia eyed Maggie's belly, "Maggie, you're carrying the first Flores baby. If it's a boy, that'd be amazing."
Maggie smiled, "Boys and girls are the same."
Olivia disagreed, "It's not the same. Wealthy families value boys more. If you have a girl, they'll want you to try again. Your mother-in-law definitely wants a grandson."
Isabella frowned, "Mom, why say that?"
Maggie said, "Olivia, Eleanor really doesn't think that way. She was here this morning and said she hopes I have a girl. The Flores family has more boys than girls. She has two sons and likes girls."
"That's just talk," Olivia started, but Arya walked in with Adalia.
Arya greeted warmly, "Olivia, Isabella, you're here. Adalia, say hello."
Adalia said, "Hello, Olivia. Hello, Isabella."
Olivia felt indifferent towards Adalia, an adopted girl.
Isabella, who didn't have kids, felt more affectionate. "Adalia, you're so good. Did you get out of school early today?"
Adalia replied, "There was an event at school. I didn't participate, so I came to see Mom."
Adalia leaned on the bed, "Mom, was the little brother good today?"
Before Maggie could answer, Olivia joked, "How do you know it's a boy? What if it's a girl?"
Adalia insisted, "It's a boy, definitely a boy."
Maggie smiled and patted Adalia's head, "Whatever you say. Did you behave at school today?"
"Mom, I was very good. The teacher praised me. We had art class, and I drew a picture for you." Adalia proudly showed her drawing.
Maggie smiled, "This is a caterpillar. Adalia, you're amazing."
Adalia pouted, "Mom, it's a snake, not a caterpillar."
Maggie and Arya laughed. Arya said, "I thought it was a caterpillar too. It almost made Adalia cry."
Maggie laughed, "Sorry, Adalia. I'm silly and didn't recognize it. It's a little snake. You did a great job; the eyes and nose are so vivid."
When dealing with kids, she knew she should praise and encourage them, not discourage them.
Olivia glanced at the drawing, thinking it was just average, but Isabella stopped her with a look.
After a while, Olivia wanted to leave, but Isabella wanted to stay longer to see Fiorello a few more times.
Fiorello came back after taking out the trash. Olivia and Isabella stayed for another half hour without any intention of leaving.
Fiorello said to Arya, "Maggie needs to rest. Mom, you should take Adalia home."
This was also directed at Olivia and Isabella.
Isabella got the hint and awkwardly said, "Arya, I drove here. I'll give you a ride home. Maggie, Fiorello, we'll be going now. Maggie, take care."
Maggie nodded, "Okay, thanks for taking my mom and Adalia."
Isabella said, "No problem."
Arya said, "Maggie, we're leaving. You rest well."
Adalia was a bit reluctant. "Mom, you need to rest well. Dad, take good care of Mom."
"Okay," Fiorello smiled and hugged Adalia. "Dad will take good care of Mom. You listen to Grandma at home."
"Okay," Adalia waved. "Goodbye, Mom and Dad."
After a round of goodbyes, Adalia left with Arya and the others.
Isabella's car was parked in the hospital lot. Just before getting in, Arya remembered she left her phone in the room. "I left my phone. I'll go get it. Adalia, wait in the car."
Adalia nodded, "Okay."
Isabella said, "Arya, we'll wait for you at the main entrance."
"Okay," Arya went back to get her phone.
Isabella drove to the hospital entrance. Olivia looked at the well-behaved Adalia in the back seat and half-jokingly, half-seriously said, "Adalia, your mom's going to have her own child. She won't want you anymore."
Hearing that, Adalia got emotional. "No, Mom won't abandon me."
Seeing Adalia upset, Olivia teased more, "You're adopted, not their biological child. Now that they have their own, they won't want you."
Adalia shook her head, "No, no."
Isabella stopped Olivia, "Mom, don't say that. Adalia will take it seriously."
"I'm not making it up. She's just an adopted girl, definitely not as close as a biological child," Olivia said. "Maggie will love her own child more. I don't believe she really treats this girl as her own daughter. I think they had ulterior motives when they adopted Adalia."
Olivia continued, "Your mom adopted you just to have her own child. If you don't behave when your brother is born, they won't love you anymore and will give you away."
"Mom won't abandon me. Adalia is good, Adalia is obedient."
Adalia was scared to tears.
She remembered how Susan had treated her badly after having a boy, hitting and scolding her every day and making her do chores.
Thinking Maggie wouldn't love her and would abandon her, Adalia cried very sadly.
Seeing her cry, Olivia panicked. "Why are you crying? Stop crying. If you keep crying, your parents will dislike you even more and give you away."
This time, Adalia was so scared she didn't even dare to cry.
