Chapter 34 The Ex-Boyfriend Pleaded for Reconciliation

Maggie and Fiorello came from two different worlds, but now she saw him as someone from hers, a true equal.

Only those who share the same world can be seen as equals. A woman insistent on splitting living expenses signifies a set of values that refuses to take advantage of someone else and embodies independence.

Fiorello had checked the dating website and confirmed there was indeed a Mr. Florez who had been set up with Maggie. He also believed Maggie really had mistaken him for someone else.

So, he wanted to continue learning about her world under his current identity.

"Just watch your mouth, that's all you need to do."

Holden washed the dishes under the supervision of Fiorello and was then hurried away by Fiorello.

Arya and Dulcinea did not stay long either. They left shortly after sitting for a while after dinner.

Eleanor wanted to stay longer, but upon realizing she was the only one left and catching the subtle hints from her son, she found an excuse to leave as well.

After everyone had left, Maggie finally had time to open the wedding gift from Dulcinea.

When she unwrapped it, she was relieved she hadn't done so in front of Fiorello because Dulcinea had gifted her a set of risqué pajamas.

Maggie lifted the thin fabric with her hand and thought, how little material there was to cover anything.

It was just so like Dulcinea's bold style.

"Maggie."

The voice of Fiorello called from outside, and Maggie quickly hid the pajamas.

"What's up?"

Maggie responded as she walked toward the voice.

With hesitation, Fiorello said, "The bubble tea you bought me last time, could you get me another one? Full sugar, and make it warm."

With Fiorello looking so serious, Maggie had thought it was something important.

Maggie smiled and replied, "No problem, that's from Teavana, the taro bubble tea. I really enjoy it myself."

She took out her phone and started placing a delivery order. "Can you handle a large?"

"Yes, a large one."

Maggie ordered quickly and when she looked up, Fiorello had brought out a laptop.

"Take a look at this." Fiorello opened a website page, which was a job posting for a designer at Visionary Futures Group's jewelry division.

"They're actually hiring a designer," Maggie exclaimed in surprise, browsing the job requirements. "A high school diploma, a passion for design is all that's needed, no experience necessary with internal training available. Top performers can even get opportunities to study abroad. Fiorello, what is your boss thinking, hiring people with no experience?"

These conditions practically felt like they were set just for her – she met them exactly.

"Design is about creation, about innovation. Too rigid thinking won't lead to anything good," Fiorello began to ramble with a serious look, "Those who are free-spirited, or even inexperienced, might just come up with something truly unique."

Maggie nodded, "That actually makes a lot of sense."

"Here's the registration portal," Fiorello pointed at the webpage and said, "You click here, and you can go in to fill out your information, to apply for the interview. The interview process includes a preliminary round and a final round, and this time we're only taking on three people."

"Only three spots? That's gotta be some stiff competition," Maggie started to feel nervous, "Do you think I can do it?"

Fiorello smiled, "You can do it."

His encouragement felt as warm as a breeze in March.

Maggie clenched her fist, psyching herself up, "I can do it."

They shared a smile, and Fiorello said, "Go ahead and fill out the application."

Maggie started filling out the form, her heart a mix of apprehension, excitement, and anticipation.

Taking this step could perhaps lead her to her dream.

After completing the application, her order of bubble tea was also delivered.

Fiorello had only got halfway through his drink when he had to take a call and leave. There was an emergency at the office that required his attention.

Left alone at home, Maggie began preparing for the interview. Her cellphone rang as well.

It was an unfamiliar number, but Maggie didn't think twice and immediately answered, "Hello, who's this?"

"It's Maggie, I'm outside your apartment complex, I want to see you."

It was Samwise.

A tightness gripped Maggie's chest, she held the phone for a long time before managing to respond with a steady voice, "Samwise, I'm married now."

"If you don't come, I'll just keep waiting here."
