Chapter 169 Revelations Unveiled

Isabella's final words rang out with an air of authority, effectively quelling any lingering thoughts James might have had about remarrying. The process of divorce was a tedious one, and she found the prospect of widowhood far more appealing. As a widow, she could directly inherit the marital property after James' burial, a convenience she found appealing.

With her piece said, Isabella turned on her heel and left, the police powerless to stop her.

"Isabella, Isabella," James called out in desperation. He attempted to clamber over the railing to chase after her, but his foot slipped. He stepped into nothingness, his body tilting backward as he let out a scream, plummeting into the Leyus River.

"James!" Ava cried out, the shock too much for her to bear. She promptly fainted.

The crowd of onlookers gasped and sighed in disbelief. Maggie was also taken aback, while Isabella stood frozen, momentarily forgetting to react. Dozens of police officers leaned over the railing, peering down at the spectacle.

Fortunately, James' fall was cushioned by a life-saving device prepared by the police officers stationed below. He had merely fainted and was not in any immediate danger, much to everyone's relief.

The police swiftly lifted James out of the Leyus River and transported him to the hospital. The crowd dispersed under the police's direction. However, the incident of James' dramatic plunge into the river continued to gain traction online.

Olivia, too, was shaken by the incident. Her legs gave out beneath her, and Arya was quick to support her. Turning to Maggie, Arya said, "Maggie, I'll take Olivia home. You should go and comfort Isabella. We're family, after all. We need to be there for each other."

"All right, Mom," Maggie responded, hailing a cab for Arya before making her way towards Isabella, who was still rooted to the spot.

"Remember when you mentioned inviting me for coffee? How about we go now?" Maggie suggested. Isabella, her mind in turmoil, agreed, needing a quiet place to vent her emotions.

Half an hour later, they found themselves in a bar, opting for drinks over coffee. Maggie, not a fan of alcohol, ordered a juice to keep Isabella company. Isabella, on the other hand, ordered a cocktail, sipping it slowly as she vented her frustrations.

"The Anderson family is shameless," she seethed. "When I couldn't have children, James' parents looked down on me. Now that they know James' mistress deceived him, they're suddenly eager to reconcile."Maggie asked, "So, the children aren't James'?" Isabella had conducted her own investigation and was taken aback by the shocking results. "I don't know whose child she's carrying now, but the child she gave birth to is not James'. James deserves this, raising another man's daughter for years. He must be regretting it now."As she spoke, Isabella's usually fierce eyes welled up with tears. She had been married to James for eight years, and she had once loved him wholeheartedly, only to be met with betrayal, hypocrisy, and selfishness. Wiping her eyes, Isabella said, "A few days ago, I heard that James went to the hospital for a check-up. He probably has some fertility issues. That's likely why he resorted to such extreme measures to beg for my forgiveness, and why he kicked his mistress out."Maggie took a sip of her juice, grimacing. "That's disgusting!" When Isabella was unable to have children, Barry and Ava had eagerly urged her to divorce James to continue the lineage. But now that James had lost his fertility, they were trying to keep Isabella and morally blackmail her. Isabella had seen through James' true colors. Raising her glass, Maggie said, "Isabella, you've wasted eight years, but it's not too late now. Here's to a fresh start and a morning free from pain."Isabella raised her glass in response. "Thank you," she said, the sincerity in her voice evident. This was the first time she had genuinely thanked Maggie. The old Isabella used to look down on Maggie. She confessed, "I used to belittle you, mock you, and treat you like a poor relative. Aside from being smarter and prettier than me, what else do you have that can compare to me?"Maggie smiled in response. "I'm still poor, and I still have those two advantages. So, I win in terms of the number of advantages. You're just richer than me, right? I used to look down on you too, thinking you were rich, arrogant, and especially rude."
