Chapter 1001 "Brother, aren't you angry?"

"Mr. Clark, don't worry, I just want to have a few words alone with Ms. Watkins. I'll be out in a quarter of an hour. Besides, what could I possibly do in fifteen minutes, right?" Ainslee glanced at Anthony meaningfully. As a fellow man, he could easily guess what Anthony was wary of.

If it weren't for Jane's insistence on talking to Ainslee alone, Anthony might have retorted, "How do I know how many minutes you need?Whether it's fifteen minutes or not, that's uncertain."

"Ms. Watkins, this way, please." Ainslee gestured for Jane to walk ahead.

Jane didn't look well, but she remained calm. She had originally thought she could at least hold her own against Ainslee, but she hadn't expected to lose. Fortunately, she had prepared for the possibility of defeat.

Ainslee invited Jane to speak alone in front of everyone. If anything happened to her, Ainslee would be the prime suspect. Although no one would genuinely stand up for her, many would use it as an excuse to attack Ainslee.

Therefore, Ainslee would not inflict any substantial harm on Jane at this moment. At most, he would issue verbal threats or seek some form of cooperation with her.

The door to the lounge opened.

Jane stepped in first, followed by Ainslee, and the door closed behind them, shutting out all sounds from the outside world.

Jane stood frozen, staring blankly at Jovan on the sofa.

"Ainslee, what's going on? You scared my sister," Jovan said, sitting on the sofa with his legs crossed, holding a brandy glass.

Ainslee spread his hands out innocently. "I didn't scare her. You can check the surveillance."

Ainslee's words and tone were very unlike a leader of the family involved in gray-area activities.

"Jovan!" Jane exclaimed in surprise and joy, "What are you doing here?"

"Come, sit down." Jovan patted the empty seat beside him.

When Jane saw Ainslee nonchalantly sit on the sofa and start eating chocolate, she finally understood Ainslee's intention in calling her in.

Ainslee had planned all along to let Jane speak alone with Jovan, who was working for the Richardson family and assisting Ainslee.

"That's my sister's!" Jovan tapped the table, signaling Ainslee to put down the snacks.

Ainslee looked at Jovan inexplicably. "There's so much and Ms. Watkins can't finish it all." Then he asked Jane insincerely, "Ms. Watkins, you can't finish it, right?"

Before Jane could shake her head and say she couldn't finish it, Jovan added, "You took her favorite dark chocolate. Put it down."

Because of Jovan's serious expression, Ainslee put down the remaining chocolates and started eating the chips nearby.

Jane, who witnessed the whole process, was dumbfounded.

The usually refined and scholarly leader of the Richardson family was like this in private.

Ainslee was eating snacks and complaining. If he started a game, Jane felt he was no different from Lucas.

Moreover, Ainslee seemed to have a very good relationship with Jovan.

"Jane, I called you here to ask about your plans" Yesterday was quite a rush, and Jovan hadn't had time to discuss things in detail with Jane. Plus, his sudden appearance might have made her think irrationally.

Jovan asked Jane, "When we disembark, will you continue to follow Anthony back, or will you return to Paykston?"

"Jovan you..." Jane looked troubled. "Do you know about him..."

"Yes, he has a fiancée. It's not a big deal," Jovan replied calmly. "I'm just asking about your plan."

Jovan had read the email from his informants last night and learned that Anthony already had a fiancée who was pregnant.

"Aren't you angry?" Jane asked anxiously.

"No, I'm not."

'What is there to be angry about? Anthony's fiancée clearly is suspicious,'Jovan thought.

Jovan had never been comfortable with Anthony and Jane being together. He had sent many women to test Anthony and tried various methods. Anthony was as stiff as a board with all of them except Jane.

Besides, whether in looks, temperament, or ability, that Aurora from the Dewar family couldn't compare to Jane by a tenth. Anthony had experienced being with Jane. Unless he was brainless or blind, he wouldn't be interested in any other woman.

Jane didn't think that far. She just assumed Jovan was unconditionally protective of her. After all, when she was a child and insisted that the earth was flat, Jovan had sincerely said, "Yes, it's flat."

Ainslee's eyes darted between Jovan and Jane, watching whoever spoke, never looking like a man nearing thirty, but like a child.

"I'll go back to Paykston," Jane said, returning to the topic. She had already made up her mind last night. "I'll borrow a few bodyguards from Oliver Windsor and wait for you to sort things out, Jovan."

"Will he let you go?" Jovan glanced towards the door. "He" naturally referred to Anthony.

Jovan knew all too well how deeply Anthony was obsessed with Jane. Otherwise, he wouldn't have risked his life to save Jovan's.

If Jovan had truly died back then, Anthony and Jane's fate would have been sealed.

"That's a minor issue," Ainslee suddenly interjected. "Ms. Watkins lost a bet and lost herself to me."

"Watch your words!" Jovan threw a cushion at Ainslee. 'What does he mean that Jane lost herself to him!' Jovan thought.

Ainslee shrugged, grabbed another pack of cookies, and started eating, not intending to correct his wording. 'My words are accurate! It is the truth!' he thought.

"Jovan, you two..." Jane had originally thought her brother was working for the Richardson family. Now it seemed Ainslee and Jovan were more like good friends.

"We're friends, sort of," Jovan said.

Jane looked suspiciously at Jovan and Ainslee but didn't ask further. After all, it was good that Jovan had a good relationship with the head of the Richardson family.

Ainslee, with a lollipop in his mouth, glanced sideways at Jovan, then crunched the lollipop loudly and tossed the stick away.

Jovan didn't even look at Ainslee and continued talking to Jane. "If you want to go back to Paykston, buy your ticket and let me know. I'll arrange for someone to protect you on the way."

"And about your safety, can I tell Natalie?" Jane asked, "It's not right to borrow her husband's men and keep your situation from her."

"Do you think Oliver Windsor won't find out?" Jovan mused. From the moment Jane successfully returned to Paykston, Oliver would probably assume that Jovan was safe.

Oliver of the RisingKing Group was formidable in both intellect and strategy.

"When will you be able to come home, Jovan?" Jane asked reluctantly, seeing that the fifteen minutes were almost up.

Married to an Ugly Husband? No!
