Chapter 1056 You Are My Master
Probably because she went to bed late the night before, Jane unusually woke up late the next day.
When she opened her eyes, it was already ten o'clock. This was the kind of lazy behavior Jane only indulged in before the Watkins family incident.
Jane changed into some casual clothes and went downstairs, pausing on the stairs.
"Awake?" Anthony was sitting on the couch with several stacks of documents on the coffee table in front of him, a laptop on his lap, and a tablet lit up beside him.
"Don't you have to go to work?" Jane, still groggy from sleep, asked slowly.
Anthony gestured to the documents. "I am working."
Working from home always seemed unreliable.
"Why are you staring at me?" Jane frowned in confusion when she noticed Anthony hadn't looked away.
Anthony seemed to be amused by something, his eyes filled with excitement, but he didn't directly answer Jane's question, lowering his gaze to hide a smile.
Since confirming the pregnancy, except for yesterday due to the Jovan incident, this was the first time Jane had initiated a conversation with Anthony.
Anthony knew Jane was probably talking to him because she had just woken up and wasn't fully alert. But that didn't matter; as long as she talked to him, it was good.
"Ms. Watkins, you're finally up?" Billy had been waiting all morning for Jane to wake up, looking at her like a father would at his lazy daughter.
Jane gave an awkward smile, but it only lasted for a second. After all, Billy was well aware of her habit of sleeping in.
While instructing the maid to serve Jane some soup, Billy smiled and said, "But now that you're pregnant, it's normal to be sleepy. Eating and sleeping well is a good thing."
Jane's smile froze; she almost forgot she was pregnant.
Billy, unaware of her subtle shift in mood, asked Jane with a smile what she wanted for lunch. Jane mentioned a few dishes she was in the mood for, leaving the rest to Billy's decision.
Anthony sat on the couch waiting, waiting for an hour without hearing another word from Jane. Indeed, she was cuter and easier to deal with when she was not fully awake.
"Jane, come here." Anthony waved at Jane, who was basking in the sun by the floor-to-ceiling window after breakfast.
Jane remained unmoved, her ears automatically filtering out Anthony's voice.
Within three seconds, Jane heard Anthony's footsteps getting closer until they stopped beside her.
Jane instinctively looked up, meeting Anthony's helpless yet indulgent gaze.
It was as if he was saying, "If you won't come to me, I'll come to you, okay?"
Jane's heart felt a soft thump.
Anthony used to be much less accommodating and patient; he was clearly trying to please Jane, to make her happy.
"I've arranged for clothes from a few brands to be delivered this afternoon. Choose whichever ones you like. If there's anything else you want, just contact their studios, and I'll take care of the bill." Anthony adjusted the small blanket on Jane, pulling it up to her chest.
Jane rolled her eyes dramatically, pushing the blanket down to her waist. How clueless could Anthony be about women to pull the blanket up to her chest? It looked ugly!
Anthony almost instantly understood Jane's disdainful look. He was used to it. But he didn't quite understand Jane's obsession with appearance.
"You'll take care of the bill?" Jane cocked her head, looking at him. "Are you keeping me?"
Giving Jane a luxurious villa to live in and letting her spend freely wasn't much different from keeping her.
"Of course not." Anthony chuckled, lifting a strand of Jane's hair and smiling. "You don't need to serve me and will even give me attitude. Only someone crazy would keep a woman like that."
'What, is he complaining about my temper and comparing me to those professional mistresses?' Jane glared coldly at Anthony.
Anthony knelt down, looking up at Jane with eyes full of sincerity and passion, as if she were a deity.
Anthony picked up Jane's hand and kissed the back of it gently, as if afraid she would reject or get angry.
Jane heard Anthony say, "You are my master."
Even when Anthony received a call from the company and had to leave Emerald Gardens, Jane was still stunned by Anthony's "master" comment.
'Had Anthony recently developed a strange interest in cosplay? Otherwise, why would he say something as weird as "you are my master"?' She was quite confused.
It wasn't until she was scrolling through her phone and saw a post about cats.
[Cat owners only need to provide the best food, drink, and entertainment. If she slaps you, it's her right. If she pays attention to you, it's your honor. Do you want such a master?]
'Is Anthony treating me like a cat? What nonsense!'
When the top brand representatives brought clothes, Jane still wore a blank expression, brooding over Anthony's words.
"Ms. Watkins!" One of the representatives recognized Jane and was momentarily surprised.
Jane didn't remember the person but nodded politely, quickly picking a few outfits from the latest collections they brought.
After the ready-to-wear, they brought out the haute couture catalogs for Jane to choose from. After selecting, they took her measurements, promising to deliver the custom pieces in about two months.
"No need for haute couture," Jane declined. With her belly growing over the next few months, haute couture would be impractical.
Jane had no intention of parading around in haute couture maternity wear like some women who married into wealthy families, flaunting their status and pregnancy. Actually, she was worse off than those women; at least they had a marriage certificate.
But then again, Jane didn't care about that marriage certificate anymore. Wealth and luxury? She had already had her share of that.
Jane always felt that her ability to say "no" anytime and her disdain for things other women pursued was largely thanks to Jovan.
Jovan's love had given Jane things others spent their lives chasing. Even if she lost material wealth, her pride remained, with little attachment to what she once had.
After Jane finished selecting clothes, the brand representatives left with the remaining items.
Inside the villa, everyone kept quiet, but once outside, they all breathed a sigh of relief.
Being in the same circle, even if they weren't close, they had met and spoken a few times.
