Chapter 835 Don't Worry, Everything's Fine

"The property management has manually adjusted it. We're now at the entrance of the basement," the bodyguard informed Natalie, monitoring the situation outside through her earpiece.

The elevator could be manually controlled, but in case of an emergency, the doors would be completely sealed. Maintenance workers could only open the doors from the outside using mechanical means, ensuring no accidents occurred inside the elevator car.

From outside the thick elevator doors, the voices of people from the property management and maintenance workers could be heard. The people from the property management were urging the workers to speed up, while the workers discussed potential solutions.

Aware that a pregnant woman of high status was inside, the staff from the property management were anxious not to waste any time, and the maintenance workers were cautious in their actions.

"Natalie, what's wrong?"

In the elevator, Natalie staggered, nearly falling, but the bodyguard, ever vigilant, caught her in time.

"Natalie, you don't look well," the other bodyguard said worriedly.

Natalie felt dizzy, weak in her limbs, and nauseous. She also felt a slight stabbing pain in her abdomen and could not stand straight.

"I feel a little unwell," Natalie managed to say, her gaze fixed on the door.

Initially, she had not felt much discomfort, unsure if it was due to nervousness or a delayed reaction from her body. But now, she felt weak and exhausted.

“Natalie!”

Outside, amid the urgent calls and discussions, a familiar male voice suddenly rang out.

"Natalie, it is Oliver," the bodyguard informed her.

Oliver's presence always comforted Natalie.

"Natalie, speak!" Oliver urged, his voice filled with anxiety and unease.

It seemed he would burst in if she did not respond soon. Alas, he could not break down the doors! One could only imagine how frustrated he must be feeling now.

"I'm here," Natalie called out weakly. Supported by the two bodyguards, she was so weak that she leaned heavily on one of them. After a moment, she gathered her strength and said reassuringly, "Don't worry."

The two bodyguards exchanged looks and decided to remain silent at this moment.

Although they were on Oliver's payroll, now was not the time to upset Natalie, as her well-being was their priority. They knew how concerned Oliver would be about Natalie.

Oliver, relieved to hear Natalie's voice, asked icily and impatiently, "How much longer do we need?"

As the situation grew tense, an onlooker muttered, "Is he talking to the property manager or the maintenance worker?"

The manager looked at the workers, signaling them to speak.

One of the workers said shakily, "We're doing the best we can. Please calm down."

"Calm down? You're not the one who's stuck inside, so it's easy for you to say that!" Oliver retorted angrily.

A heavy silence filled the air, the tension palpable.

Jamie felt compelled to intervene. He said, "Oliver, if you intimidate them, they'll only work slower."

"Useless!"

Oliver looked at the others as though they were trash.

The other male bodyguards responsible for Natalie's safety, hung their heads low, anticipating a reprimand. Although Natalie's mishap was unexpected, they felt responsible.

Lilian, standing at the side, dared not speak. She was afraid of worsening Oliver's mood, which would make the situation unpredictable. She and the others were visibly nervous.

"Oliver!" Emily rushed over. Her expression was one of concern as she said, "I just checked the surveillance footage and found a suspicious individual."

Oliver, visibly upset, glanced at Emily.

Upon hearing of Natalie's accident, Emily had immediately instructed Lilian to inform Oliver, while she herself went to review the surveillance footage.

Born into a wealthy family, Emily was no stranger to the elite social circles and their often hidden, darker aspects, including scandals and underhanded tactics. Many times, what seemed like coincidences were actually carefully orchestrated plans.

For those reasons, Emily had been cautious. She knew that while elevator malfunctions could indeed be sporadic, the elevators in this building were well-maintained and seldom malfunctioned with passengers inside. She did not expect much, but to her surprise, she really did spot someone suspicious in the footage!

"I saw Helen in this building," Emily informed Oliver.

Helen should have been in Tycoon City, the stronghold of the Hastings family. Based on the recent tension between the Windsor family and the Hastings family, she should have avoided Paykston. Her unexpected appearance in the same building where Natalie was trapped seemed far too coincidental.

"Jamie," Oliver called out. His voice was tense as if he was on the verge of unleashing his anger on someone.

"Understood. I'll check it right away," Jamie responded and immediately contacted the relevant subordinate. It would be easy to investigate Helen's presence in Paykston using the Windsor family's influence.

"How much longer?" Oliver asked the workers once again.

Jamie glanced at his wristwatch. Less than ten minutes had passed since the last update. He felt a mix of sympathy for the workers. However, he knew how important Natalie's safety was to Oliver.

"Soon!" the worker replied.

They had devised a foolproof plan, and once set into motion, progress was swift.

After a few more minutes, the elevator door finally cracked open.

"The door is open!" the crowd cheered.

As the doors parted just enough for a person to squeeze through, a figure darted inside.

Natalie saw a beam of light just as the tightly closed elevator doors were pried apart. Before she could react, the figure enveloped her in a warm and familiar embrace.

“Natalie!” Oliver called out softly.

Natalie felt Oliver's hands trembling and wanted to comfort him. She wanted to tell him not to be afraid, that everything was fine now. She wanted to thank him for coming so quickly, to express her happiness at seeing him. She wanted to share how scared she had been inside the elevator, and but she was more scared of worrying him. She was afraid, and so was he.

"I..." she began, but a little noise escaped her lips as her consciousness waned. Unable to support her tired body, her body completely softened as she fainted.

The moment before she lost consciousness, she heard Oliver screaming her name.

“Natalie!”

The bodyguards had managed everything very thoroughly.

Despite initially being told by Natalie that she was okay, they had arranged for a doctor and an ambulance to be on standby outside earlier.
