Chapter 1063 The Joy Anthony Doesn't Understand
Anthony responded with a nod, and after half a second, he whispered, "Keep an eye on the Clark Manor, and don't let Aurora and Mrs. Clark come into contact."
Jane, who was leaning back in her chair, suddenly woke up and weakly said a couple of words.
"Anthony, are you talking to me?" Her voice grew softer, clearly still groggy and half-asleep.
The bodyguard in the front row saw this and didn't dare to make a sound.
Anyone who knew Anthony well understood that Jane, sitting in the back seat, was his precious darling. Even disturbing her sleep was an unforgivable offense.
Anthony placed Jane's head on his shoulder, gently patted her, and softly said, "Go back to sleep; it's okay."
"I want..."
"What?" Anthony listened patiently.
"A milkshake."
Half-asleep, Jane mumbled to herself, not even sure if she was talking in her sleep.
Anthony couldn't help but laugh.
When Jane's breathing became steady and long, Anthony chuckled and gently pinched her cheek, "No milkshake for you."
Jane had always liked to sleep, and her pregnancy made her even more drowsy. She didn't show any signs of waking up until the Bentley stopped in front of the villa at Emerald Gardens.
Anthony carefully carried Jane in his arms and took her back to her bedroom.
Under the soft yellow light, Jane, still asleep, looked especially peaceful and beautiful.
Anthony gently placed his hand on Jane's flat belly, worried about waking her up, he didn't dare to move it at all.
However, he still didn't feel any sense of reality about the little life inside Jane's belly.
Today, when he saw those baby products at the maternity store, most of them were either pink or blue. People generally assumed that blue was for boys and pink was for girls.
Anthony found himself wondering whether Jane was carrying a boy or a girl.
He didn't have a preference for a boy or a girl; as long as it was Jane's child, he would love it.
But at this moment, seeing the well-behaved and peaceful Jane, Anthony thought, maybe a boy would be better.
A son could protect his mother. Anthony only wanted to protect Jane, his little princess, for the rest of his life.
Aurora left the mall and headed straight for the Clark Manor.
Aurora had known Ann for many years and was well aware of Ann's strong desire to control Anthony, but she didn't have much ability, making her a suitable tool to use.
Aurora had no chance against Anthony, but she could use Ann to deal with him.
"Anthony, don't blame me for being ruthless. This is what you owe me!" Aurora muttered to herself through gritted teeth.
Aurora instructed the driver to head to the Clark Manor, but she never expected that she wouldn't even be allowed to enter the place where she had once lived for several months.
"Ms. Dewar, it's not that I won't let you in, but you don't have an appointment. That's the rule." The doorman spoke very sincerely, but he didn't budge an inch, clearly not intending to let Aurora in.
Suppressing her temper, Aurora asked, "I never needed an appointment before. Don't you know my relationship with Mrs. Clark?"
"Ms. Dewar, you used to be Mrs. Clark's prospective daughter-in-law, Anthony's fiancée, but not anymore. Naturally, you can't go in without an appointment." The doorman knew about the issues between Aurora and Anthony and didn't have much goodwill towards Aurora. Seeing her making a fuss, he lost his patience. "You don't need an appointment to go to Hubert's house, but you can't come to Anthony's house without one."
Aurora sensed something was off, "Did someone give you a heads-up? Was it Mrs. Ann Clark? No, it must have been Anthony."
Only Anthony would guard against Aurora, and he did it for Jane.
"Ms. Dewar, please leave," the doorman said directly.
Aurora looked at the solemn Clark Manor.
This used to be a place where Aurora could come and go freely. She could even entertain her guests here, but now, she couldn't even touch the door.
How ridiculous! All of this was thanks to Anthony and Jane.
Aurora thought that if it weren't for Jane, she would be the great Mrs. Clark today.
Ann sat idly in the living room, vaguely hearing some noise outside, and asked the servant, "Is someone visiting?"
Due to the scandal of Aurora's pregnancy, Ann hadn't socialized for over two months. She had been focusing all her attention on Anthony, but Anthony didn't listen to her and only liked Jane.
Ann had been feeling a bit bored lately. If someone came to visit, she could vent her frustrations and maybe get some advice on how Jane had managed to captivate Anthony.
"No, Mrs. Clark, someone must have the wrong place. The person has already left." the servant, having received prior instructions from Anthony, was prepared with a response.
"Alright." Ann sighed in disappointment.
The weather in Southvale was generally better than in Paykston, often sunny and cloudless.
Jane had recently taken a liking to sunbathing in the garden, lying on a chair with some snacks made by Billy at her side, feeling quite content.
Even more delightful was ordering a milkshake online when Anthony wasn't home.
After ordering her milkshake, she waited happily, watching the time slowly pass. She received a call from the delivery person as expected. Then, she waited for the the security booth to naturally deliver it to her.
However, Jane waited and waited, but the security booth never brought it over.
Jane had to call and ask.
"Ms. Watkins, we are very sorry, but Mr. Clark instructed us before he left that any requests you make for milkshakes or similar drinks should not be delivered. We are truly sorry," the security guard said respectfully, with a hint of amusement.
Jane was dumbfounded.
Anthony was so terrifying that he had even given prior instructions to the security booth!
Her good mood for the day vanished at that moment, and Jane stormed back into the villa.
Billy saw her and asked with concern, "Ms. Watkins, what's wrong? You don't look happy."
Jane snorted and told Billy about the milkshake incident.
Jane had hoped Billy would take her side, as she hadn't given up on the milkshake yet. But to her surprise, Billy's expression turned serious. "Ms. Watkins, this time I have to side with Mr. Clark. Milkshakes are high in sugar, cream, and additives, which are bad for your health."
Jane argued, "But it makes me happy. Eating too much healthy food is bad too, so what's wrong with having a milkshake occasionally?"
Billy couldn't argue with Jane and hesitated, his face practically saying: Pregnant women are the priority, you can't argue with a pregnant woman, even if she's being unreasonable.
Jane's frustration lasted until Anthony returned from the company.
"What's wrong?" Anthony immediately noticed Jane's mood was off as soon as he got home.
Jane, having held it in all day, didn't want to beat around the bush with Anthony and said directly, "I want a milkshake!"
Anthony looked at Jane.
Jane usually didn't like talking to Anthony, but now she was compromising for a milkshake. Anthony found it both amusing and exasperating.
Jane looked at Anthony, waiting for him to have a moment of conscience and agree.
Anthony nodded and, under Jane's expectant gaze, said, "Then keep wanting it."
It was as if he were saying: No one is stopping you.
Why did Jane ever fall for such an unromantic man!
Billy witnessed this and shook his head with a smile as he returned to the kitchen.
Over the years, Billy had only seen Anthony as the one person who could make Jane somewhat obedient.
Jane stopped talking, sitting on the couch, playing with her phone and sulking.
Anthony saw Jane's pouty face, clearly unhappy.
"What's so great about a milkshake that you want it so badly?" Jane's unhappy mood was so intense that Anthony couldn't help but ask.
"You're an old man who wouldn't understand," Jane said indignantly.
"Old man?" Anthony didn't agree with that; he wasn't even 30 yet.
Jane said, "Young guys these days all drink milkshakes."
So, if Anthony wasn't old, what was he?
Anthony realized Jane was mocking him, trying to make him compromise.
Even though he knew Jane's little scheme, he couldn't help but fall into the trap.
Jane was five or six years younger than Anthony, making him feel a bit old in comparison.
Seeing Anthony's lack of response, Jane got angrier. "Anthony, I didn't choose to get pregnant. Now I can't even eat what I want. Do you think drinking one more milkshake will make your son stupid?"
Alright, she was really angry.
Anthony remembered that pregnant women were prone to emotional outbursts, and science seemed to back that up.
Anthony sighed, took out his phone, and handed it to Jane. "You can only order one."
Jane was shocked and looked at Anthony suspiciously. "Are you possessed?"
"You have one minute to order, or you’ll miss it." Anthony was feeling a bit soft-hearted.
Jane's words about not choosing to get pregnant and now being restricted in what she could eat had indeed struck a chord with Anthony.
He thought one milkshake could satisfy Jane, and an occasional indulgence shouldn't matter.
At this moment, Anthony didn’t realize that once a boundary was crossed, it tended to be pushed further and further.
"Fine." Jane quickly took Anthony's phone.
She had already decided what to get, so she placed the order very quickly.
Anthony took back the phone and glanced at it. He recognized every word, but together, he had no idea what it was.
This time, with Anthony's permission, the milkshake was delivered very quickly, arriving at the villa in less than half an hour.
