Chapter 897 Ugly Face

Anthony knew his mother very well. Before marriage, she was a well-protected socialite by the family. Even after marriage, his father also took good care of her. The only tough time in her life was the decade after his father's death.

However, it wasn't much of a tough time, because her family provided her with abundant material comforts.

Anthony thought, 'My mother is a simple-minded and stubborn person who wouldn't think of arranging someone to monitor Jovan.

'So, someone must have informed my mother of the news. That was how she end up using the news to threaten and control Jane.

'It should be Aurora.

'Humiliate Jane serves no point.

'So there are two possibilities. Aurora might benefit from it and could manipulate me through this.'

"Was Jane's room arranged by my mother or Aurora?" Anthony asked Sadie.

"It was the Mrs. Ann Clark's decision, but Ms. Dewar didn't comment on it ."

According to Aurora's usual image, a dignified and kind future Mrs. Clark should not let a guest stay in such a shabby little room, especially when that guest came to accompany her.

The second half of Sadie's statement was subtly undermining Aurora.

Anthony gave Sadie a meaningful look and then withdrew his gaze. "Thank you, Sadie."

Sadie replied calmly, "Mr. Clark, it's my duty."

Anthony understood why Sadie chose him over his mother. It had nothing to do with loyalty. It was simply because Sadie had a clear mind and knew who could provide her with better security and a brighter future for her son, Adam Corporation. Adam now worked under Anthony, and his future prospects were entirely manipulated by him. Ann had no say for it.

Although Sadie's actions were somewhat manipulative, Anthony welcomed her allegiance because interests were the simplest and easiest way to control someone.

He happened to be able to give her what she wanted.

On his way to the monitoring room, Anthony called Clint.

"Look into three things. One, who has Aurora been in contact with recently? Two, has anything unusual happened to Aurora recently? Three, Aurora almost had a miscarriage. Is it that serious?"

"Understood! But Mr. Clark, didn't you say that the child in Ms. Dewar's belly isn't yours? If it's not yours, even if she miscarries, it shouldn't matter."

"No." Anthony narrowed his eyes. "I want her to safely deliver the child."

He was certain that the child wasn't his. Once Aurora gave birth to a child that wasn't his, there would be no chance for him and Aurora to be together.

However, if the child couldn't be born safely, even if a miscarriage occurred and DNA testing was done on the fetal tissue or amniotic fluid at this stage, proving the child wasn't his, Aurora still had hope of marrying him.

Because as long as the child hadn't been born, the outside world would assume that the child in Aurora's belly was his. In this era, fidelity wasn't highly valued, so it was highly possible for redemption.

Anthony arrived at the monitoring room and had the security personnel pull up the surveillance footage from that afternoon.

The conversation between the two was crystal clear.

Anthony wasn't particularly interested in the conversation's content. He just wanted to know what Aurora and his mother had done to Jane and what Jane had said to them. This would give him a sense of certainty.

He saw his mother, Ann, angrily slap Jane across the face and push her hard backward. Jane's back hit the sharp corner of the door frame.

Anthony noticed that Jane's expression froze in that instant of impact. Her body tensed, and her whole body subtly hunched.

Clearly, she was in pain.

Just from a video, Anthony could imagine how much pain Jane was in.

He remembered that when he had gone to see Jane earlier, it seemed like his hand had been on her back.

Lying down was too painful, so Jane could only sleep on her stomach to relieve some pressure on her back.

Jane couldn't sleep properly at all. Maybe it was because her back hurt too much, or maybe she was afraid that the annoying Anthony outside could come in at any moment.

The sound of the door unlocking echoed.

With the familiar footsteps approaching, Jane almost instantly recognized who it was the moment the door opened.

Jane maintained her prone position and didn't want to move this time.

"I had no privacy now? How can you casually enter this room without permission! Anthony!"

As Jane screamed, the sound of her clothes being torn also rang out.

Anthony was deeply shocked. Under the dim yellow light, Jane's back looked thin and pale, with a particularly striking dark red scar.

The scars didn't look like a bruise but more like she had been beaten with a stick.

Anthony felt a tearing pain in his heart, and his fingertips trembled.

The once delicate Jane, who used to be afraid of even getting an injection, was now so severely injured but didn't make a sound, swallowing back her pain.

"Anthony, you have a fiancée and a child on the way, yet you're trying to strip my clothes off. You are shameless!" Jane said fiercely.

"What? Get up and hit me."

Seeing Jane in such a serious condition but still being defiant made Anthony very upset. He skillfully avoided her injured area and pressed his palm on her back, preventing her from moving.

"Anthony, you bastard!"

His gaze suddenly fell on an ice pack not far away, and he furrowed his brow, pinching Jane's chin and bending down to look at her face. Her face was still very swollen.

"Your face, no ice applied?" He frowned, looking somewhat stern.

Jane wearily closed her eyes, refusing to engage.

Anthony let go of her, wrapped the ice pack in a towel, and prepared to apply it to Jane.

"Get away from me!" Jane rejected Anthony's approach.

However, the room was too small for her to avoid him. He only needed a step to get the ice pack and another step to come back. Within a second, he could complete the task. In her current "disabled" state, she couldn't move quickly enough.

"Don't you care for you face most." Anthony effortlessly pressed Jane with one hand, holding the ice pack wrapped in a towel in the other, ready to apply it to her swollen face.

"Get away, I don't want you! It hurts! it hurts! it hurts!"

"Jane, I haven't even touched you. why are you screaming?" Anthony's face darkened. The towel-wrapped ice pack was just still inches away from Jane's face.

But her cries of pain seemed genuine.

"Anthony, go away! You are rude! Go away!" Jane covered her face, refusing to give Anthony a chance to touch her wound.

Jane had been injured twice in high school and Anthony had treated her wounds. She still vividly remembered that.

Anthony was so angry that he wanted to hit her. In the end, he gritted his teeth and said, "Fine, you face will become ugly!"
