Chapter 809 She Was Everything to Me

If this was a conspiracy, then it must have started fifteen years ago. At that time, Natalie and Susan were only six or seven years old!

Over the years, no one had questioned Susan's identity, except when she first returned home and underwent a paternity test. Moreover, she bore a strong resemblance to Helen.

"You need to find an opportunity to obtain Susan's DNA and compare it with that of Lucas," Oliver stated, almost certain that there was a familial connection between Susan and Lucas. They might have had the same parents, or they were possibly half-siblings.

Samuel nodded, signaling his agreement to help with this task. He remembered that he and Natalie had already conducted their own paternity tests, so arranging one for Lucas and Susan would not be difficult. As for his personal issues, he would have to address them after returning to the country, but he could deal with Natalie and Oliver's concerns immediately.

After smoking half a cigarette, Samuel stared at Oliver and said, "If I had the power to decide my sister's marriage, I wouldn't choose someone like you for her."

Oliver was too cunning, and Natalie was too naive; they were not suitable for each other.

Nonetheless, Oliver’s capabilities were indeed impressive, supported by both the RisingKing Group and the Windsor Corporation. His motives were hard to decipher.

Unperturbed by Samuel's words, Oliver smiled and replied, "If I had the power to choose her family, I wouldn’t want Natalie's family to be yours either."

Samuel gave a sarcastic laugh, reflecting on how the course of many events was indeed unpredictable and often beyond one's control. He had questioned Natalie's motive in marrying Oliver and realized that this union was not coerced by Oliver, nor was it a strategic arrangement by their families to merge their interests through marriage. It seemed that Natalie was merely filling in for someone else in marrying Oliver. He imagined she must have felt deeply aggrieved upon entering the Rosewood Estate.

However, the Hastings family had failed to notice her emotional turmoil, as they were preoccupied with accompanying Susan on a vacation in Australia.

"So, what does this bone marrow issue have to do with Natalie’s pregnancy?"

Samuel usually could swiftly analyze the connection between such matters, but at that moment, he did not want to delve into it seriously. His thoughts were occupied with the Hastings family's neglect of Natalie and how Susan had earned everyone's trust and was regarded as the family's daughter.

"I want to keep her by my side," Oliver said.

Samuel understood. "Are you concerned that Natalie might choose to leave you in order to obtain Susan's bone marrow?"

As he spoke, he recalled Natalie mentioning a threatening phone call from Helen and Susan.

'Was this related?'

Indeed, Susan was not Helen's daughter. Instead, the woman Helen hated and constantly opposed was her biological daughter. How could she possibly come to terms with the truth?

In the end, Samuel still disagreed with Oliver’s approach. He said, "Do you have so little confidence in Natalie? Oliver, you're her husband. You should believe that Lucas will not hold a higher place in her heart than you do."

"Samuel, you don't understand her," Oliver said mockingly, "She values family more than love, so she won't prioritize me."

Oliver continued, "It's not that I lack faith in her. It is that I don't have faith in myself."

"What if Lucas is Susan's biological brother?"

Once Samuel discovered that Natalie was his biological sister, he felt very sorry about her exertions for Lucas. He believed his sister deserved to be cared for by others, not wear herself out caring for them.

"Natalie has always known that she and Lucas are not related by blood," Oliver expressed, his voice laden with complex emotions, "Do you really think Susan is unaware Lucas is her brother?"

Samuel was stunned.

Indeed, if Susan had entered the Hastings family as part of a conspiracy from the start, then it was possible she knew Lucas was her biological brother. Some people prioritized their own interests, while others consistently considered others. Natalie was a classic example of the latter.

"I'll uncover the truth of this matter," Samuel declared, clenching his fist and slamming it against the wall. He was determined to identify the culprit who orchestrated the conspiracy against the Hastings family!

Oliver felt that they had spoken enough. He lacked the time and patience to linger with his future brother-in-law, so he prepared to leave.

"Wait." Samuel blocked Oliver's path with his hand.

Oliver raised an eyebrow, wondering what Samuel wanted to say.

"Where are you going? Natalie doesn't want to see you," Samuel said, still unhappy with Oliver for getting his sister pregnant at such a young age. Natalie's career was on the rise, and this was not the ideal time for her to be pregnant.

Although Oliver, as a successful businessman, could provide Natalie with abundant resources, she was only 22 years old—still very young and at the beginning of her life. She herself was just a child and there was no need for her to take on the role of a mother so soon.

Oliver could discern what Samuel was thinking.

"Don't worry, the child is merely a tool for me to achieve my goals. She is not important in my heart," Oliver coldly stated.

Samuel was at a loss for words. Oliver's words made him seem even more cruel.

"Don't worry. Natalie means everything to me," Oliver said before he left.

Samuel lingered with his cigarette before extinguishing the remaining butt and discarding it. He opened the door of the fire exit and was surprised to find Oliver still there, standing outside, allowing the wind to clear the smell of smoke from his body.

Upon hearing the door open, Oliver glanced at Samuel and then made his way toward Natalie's hospital ward.

"You didn't tell her that you are her brother, right?" Oliver asked.

"No."

Inside the ward, Natalie pressed the bedside bell.

The door clicked open shortly after.

"Hello, I need to use the bathroom."

Natalie stopped talking when she saw who entered—it was not a nurse but Oliver.

His tall figure loomed under the door frame, looking eye-catching.

Oliver paused briefly, closed the door behind him, and approached her. "Do you want to go to the bathroom?"

"Liar!"

Natalie sat up on the bed, her eyes widening with a mix of anger and sadness.

"Liar, get out!"

As Oliver came closer, Natalie’s voice rose, and she repeatedly pressed the call bell on the bedside.

"Don’t bother. No one will come in," Oliver stated flatly.

Jamie and several bodyguards were stationed outside, and they would not let anyone enter without his permission.

"What about Samuel?" Natalie still harbored hope for this temporary outsider who had gotten involved.

Oliver’s face remained impassive as he said, "I don’t know."

"Do you need to go to the bathroom? Let me carry you."

Oliver stood by the bedside, bending down and extending his hand towards her.

"Don’t touch me!" Natalie recoiled as she screamed. She shifted her body to the far side of the bed, and her movement was so sudden that she nearly fell off.

As she was about to lose balance, Oliver quickly caught her by the waist. She told him not to touch her, but he still did. If he had listened to her, he would not be Oliver.

"Natalie, calm down," Oliver urged soothingly, as if he had not heard her vehement protests, "Your current condition is not suitable for emotional excitement."

"Not suitable?"
