Chapter 1018 Jane, are you crying?

"Are you hurt? Can you get up?" Jane tried to turn her head to look at Anthony, but the weight of his body was pressing down on her, making it impossible.

"Where does it hurt?" Anthony asked in return.

"I'm fine. Not hurt." Jane asked again, "Can you get up?"

"Jane, are you crying?" Anthony detected the sob in Jane's voice . Then he said with gentle tone, "Don't cry."

Anthony's rambling made Jane's heart sink. She asked, "Are you unable to get up?"

If his injury was too severe, he wouldn't be able to get up.

Jane turned her head to look outside. The nearby stone slabs had been shattered, and the bulletproof glass around the various artifacts in the room showed significant cracks.

The noise outside grew louder, and no one dared to come in except for the bodyguards Richard had assigned to Jane.

"Ms. Watkins!"

"Ms. Watkins!"

The smoke hadn't cleared, and the dust made it hard to see.

Jane didn't dare to move easily for fear of hurting Anthony further. Holding back her trembling voice, she called out, "Over here!"

The two bodyguards were pale with fear.

It wasn't that they hadn't seen such a scene before, because they were entirely worried about Jane getting hurt.

If Jane were injured, none of them would escape unscathed. Anyone who knew Richard even a little would know he was far from as kind as he appeared.

"Ms. Watkins..."

"I'm fine," Jane interrupted the bodyguard. "Check on Anthony first. Help him up, and be careful."

"Jane, you're letting Richard's people take care of me. Aren't you afraid he will think you still have feelings for me? Or do you still care about me?" Anthony sneered.

"If you die, your mother would probably kill me. The Watkins family doesn't want to bear any more of the Clark family's life." Jane really wanted to shut Anthony up.

Jane pushed herself up from the ground and finally saw Anthony's condition.

The Burberry trench coat worth tens of thousands of dollars had turned into rags .

Anthony was likely injured and weak, barely able to stand with the help of two bodyguards.

It was the first time Jane had seen Anthony so disheveled.

Without the sarcasm of before, she was now deeply concerned about him.The sound of an ambulance came from outside the courtyard.

Someone shouted, "Make way! There's a doctor here. Make way!"

Anthony was quickly lifted onto a stretcher by doctors and nurses. Due to his back injury, he could only lie face down.

"Miss, our people went after the person who threw the explosive. They should be able to catch him," a bodyguard reported to Jane.

Although Jane had seen a lot since childhood, it had all been in normal and safe realms. This was the first time she had encountered a homemade explosive situation. Even so, she could guess that anyone daring to do such outrageous things in the city must either have a foolproof escape plan or not afraid of getting caught.

Jane was more inclined towards the latter guess, because in a big city with cameras everywhere and Richard's bodyguards in pursuit, escaping would be nearly impossible.

However, even if they caught the person, Jane had no experience or skills in interrogation.

"Jane!"

Jane's hem was suddenly grabbed.

Anthony reached out and grabbed Jane's hem, stubbornly looking up at her.

A nurse asked Jane, "Are you his family member? If so, come with us quickly. Every minute of delay increases the patient's risk!"

A nearby doctor briefly examined Anthony's wound and said in surprise, "Doesn't it hurt? With such a severe injury, you're not unconscious and not even crying out in pain?"

Since some doctors had seen many patients, they developed a quirky way of dealing with illnesses.

Jane told the bodyguards, "Handle this matter directly with Mr. Foster. Thank you, and please convey my gratitude to him."

Jane had no other choice. With a half-dead Anthony in front of her, even if he wasn't clutching her hem, she couldn't leave him alone in the hospital.

After all, if it weren't for Anthony, it would be her lying in the hospital now.

Richard rushed over upon hearing the news, but Jane had already left for the hospital with Anthony in the ambulance. The two bodyguards had caught the culprit.

Unfortunately, the person was a well-known fool in the area, mentally unstable. They could only find out that someone had paid him to throw a "little ball" into the courtyard.

The fool didn't know the "little ball" contained explosives.

"Sir, we're sorry for our negligence. Please punish us." the four bodyguards lowered their heads. Although Jane wasn't hurt, the situation clearly resulted from their failure to detect the threat.

Richard, with a grim face, told them to get lost.

"Sir, based on what the fool said, it's likely someone from the Richardson family did this. If Jane were killed, Jovan would never work for the Richardson family again. Losing his beloved sister, he might be too heartbroken to continue."

"A bunch of idiots, asking for it!" Richard said each word slowly, referring to those in the Richardson family opposing Jovan and Ainslee.

'They dare to target Jane again. It seems Jovan's previous warning isn't severe enough!' Richard thought.

After relaying the incident to Jovan, Richard hung up the phone and called over the store's attendant.

"Did the lady who went to the hospital have her eye on any item?" Richard asked.

"This turquoise lion-patterned inkwell," the attendant said. "I was about to get the key to the display case when..."

"Wrap it up for me. I'll pay by card."

Anthony's surgery took several hours, during which he needed a blood transfusion. Jane kept receiving various forms from the hospital, her heart sinking.

Fortunately, Jane had Clint's private number. She called and asked him to come quickly.

Jane also texted Richard, informing him that she wouldn't be returning to Paykston for the time being and apologizing for the sudden change in plans.

It was unclear how much time had passed.

Finally, the light in the operating room went out.

Jane immediately approached and asked, "Doctor, how is he?"

"The surgery was very successful. The patient's physical condition is quite good, and he's lucky. The injuries are mostly superficial, with no vital organs affected. However, there will likely be a scar on his back."

Jane thanked the doctor repeatedly.

Jane had known for years that Anthony was physically strong, but she was still surprised that he woke up from anesthesia an hour earlier than expected.

Anthony opened his eyes and saw Jane sitting calmly by the bedside, her face relaxed, showing no signs of the tension or pain after an injury.

"What are you thinking about?" Anthony's voice was soft and raspy as he spoke, with a hint of coaxing.

Married to an Ugly Husband? No!
