Chapter 182 Darling, Won't Happen Again
Having no girlfriend meant lacking experiences to share.
Lucas clenched his jaw in anger. At the same time, he glanced at Oliver’s trousers and said, “Don’t think I don’t know what you’re going upstairs to do!”
“What’s wrong with me spending time with my legal wife?” Oliver retorted.
Oliver reached out and tapped Lucas's bald head teasingly as he said, "If you stay awake all night, you will end up stunted in growth, shorty."
"You’re the shorty!" Lucas retorted. However, he felt that his retort held no weight considering Oliver was about 1.9 meters tall.
…
Oliver assumed Natalie would hide under the covers, pretending to sleep. To his surprise, the usually shy was indeed under the covers, but she was looking at him with a pair of bright eyes when he entered the room.
There was something always mesmerizing about Natalie's eyes, clear as a pristine lake and as luminous as stars in the night sky.
Natalie gazed up at him, her eyes wide in mock surprise. "You're back so soon?"
"I have something to do here after all," Oliver responded before gently pulling her closer by her hand.
In the Gothic-style room, the atmosphere between them grew charged with an unspoken tension.
When Oliver pulled the covers off Natalie, he noticed that she had intentionally chosen her nightgown. It was not revealing, but it looked very enticing. He leaned closer and asked in a low and raspy voice, “Did you dress up today to thank me for taking in your brother?”
“No!” Natalie feigned anger as embarrassment colored her cheeks.
Oliver's eyes sparkled with mischief. "In any case, I like the nightgown."
‘As long as it’s you, I’ll like it…’
That night, Natalie's world spun, making her feel dizzy.
At some point, in her dazed state, she thought she saw a faint light on the horizon, heralding the dawn.
…
When Natalie awoke the following day, her body was sore. Her muscles were aching as though she had run a marathon, and she was exhausted from the lack of sleep.
"You’re up?"
Natalie opened her eyes to Oliver’s deep and husky voice. She bit her lip as she looked at him before she finally suppressed the urge to punch him.
Seeing the frown on her face, Oliver asked, “Where does it hurt?”
"My entire body feels sore," Natalie admitted, her voice tinged with a hint of grievance.
"Darling, I promise not to keep you awake all night next time," Oliver soothed, his voice gentle as he leaned in for a kiss.
Then, he got out of bed to fetch her a glass of water, intending to ease her discomfort.
"Put on some clothes!" Natalie protested, lobbing a pillow at him. He made no move to dodge, accepting the hit squarely on his back.
It took Natalie a moment to process her bold action.
‘Did I really just throw a pillow at Oliver?’
Most importantly, she saw several scratches on Oliver's back. She glanced down at her nails.
"You did this," Oliver confirmed, nonchalantly bringing the glass to her lips.
"I haven't brushed my teeth," Natalie protested. She was surprised by how accommodating Oliver was.
Oliver continued to reply patiently, “I’ll carry you.”
Natalie clutched the edge of the blanket. "I want to put on some clothes first."
Oliver picked up a robe and loosely tied it around his waist. He then walked into the dressing room and emerged with a brick-red long robe.
‘As expected, it’s red again…’
Thanks to Oliver's generous provision of clothing beforehand, Natalie had an ample supply of clothes.
Natalie felt lethargic and did not have the energy to protest. As such, she let him dress her.
Having dressed Natalie twice before, Oliver found the task easier this time. However, he frowned when he saw the marks on her skin. A hint of concern and guilt could be seen on his face at this moment.
"Does this hurt?" he asked as his fingers hesitated over a mark on her waist.
The pain was negligible, but her entire body felt sore. Nonetheless, the previous night's experiences had been intensely pleasurable until her energy had waned.
Natalie lowered her gaze, catching a fleeting look of self-reproach and distress in Oliver's eyes beneath his tousled hair.
"Oliver."
"Yes?" He looked up. His expression was serene, as if she had just imagined what she had seen earlier. He always had a way of masking his true feelings.
"I feel a bit cold," Natalie said offhandedly. Initially, she wanted to tell him that she did not blame him but would appreciate it if he was gentler in the future.
After Oliver put on the robe for Natalie, he carried her into the bathroom, prepared her toothbrush with toothpaste, and handed her a cup of water for rinsing.
Natalie regarded him with a hint of suspicion.
‘Why this sudden tenderness? Is it guilt?’
The bathroom, spacious and well-lit, accommodated them both comfortably as Oliver began brushing his teeth alongside her.
Catching their reflections in the mirror, Oliver found contentment in this simple domestic scene, finding satisfaction even in the mundane task of caring for her.
"It's one o'clock?!" Natalie exclaimed, checking her phone in disbelief.
Oliver confirmed with a nod. Their activities had extended until dawn, and when he woke up at 9, Natalie was still asleep. In the end, he chose to stay with her. He woke up again at 12 but was unable to fall back asleep.
Natalie rubbed her temples. Previously, this would not have been an issue, but Lucas was now staying with them. The thought of facing her younger brother or concocting a plausible excuse for their simultaneous late awakening troubled her, especially considering the previous night's events.
…
"Mr. Watson has gone out and mentioned he’ll return in the afternoon,” Liam informed them with a knowing smile.
Initially, Natalie felt a wave of embarrassment at Liam's knowing smile, but his words dispelled her unease. "Lucas went out?"
"Madam, there’s no need to worry. Jamie accompanied him,” Liam reassured.
"That's a relief," Natalie said and sighed in relief before she explained, “I’m worried about his health. He’s not quite fit to go out alone in his condition.”
His smile conveyed understanding and reassurance.
Unbeknownst to Natalie, Oliver had arranged for Lucas to be out for the day, ensuring her comfort and sparing her any embarrassment.
Liam, though puzzled by the request, did not question it. He had anticipated a challenging day but was pleasantly surprised by Lucas's compliance, despite his initial reluctance.
It seemed like both Oliver and Lucas did not want Natalie to feel uncomfortable and embarrassed.
