Chapter 964: Jane, Wake Up!
"Jane, are you out of your mind?!" Joe screamed.
"Mr. Green, with all the women you've been with, you should know that the human body is amazing. Some parts of the body may not leave a mark but will have a piercing pain when hit. Even a medical exam fails to detect."
Clearly, Jane was targeting those spots.
"Jane, stop! I...!" Joe didn't even get to finish his threat before Jane kicked him again.
The servants were all in the garden taking care of Aurora and the guests, so there was no one around. Joe couldn't even call for help.
"Mr. Green, are you trying to say that even if you have no visible injuries, you can still get a medical report? If that's the case, then I have to beat you up."
Jane had to fully use this hard-won opportunity to teach Joe a lesson.
Jane threw a punch. " It's been three years and you still haven't learned to respect women."
"Jane, Ms. Watkins, stop hitting me! I was wrong! I only want to see you because I like you!" Joe, pampered since childhood, couldn't take it anymore.
Jane twisted Joe's arm into a painful but non-injurious position.. "Mr. Green, I only hit you because I like you. Have you seen me hit any other man? Hitting is a sign of my affection."
"Ms. Watkins, I was wrong!" Hearing his apology, Jane reluctantly let go of Joe.
There was one thing Joe wasn't wrong without the support of the Watkins family, Jane couldn't be as arrogant as before. At least, she couldn't beat Joe to the point of hospitalization.
Jane picked up the broken pieces of her laptop and glared coldly at Joe. "Don't even think about messing with me again. Got it?"
Joe's whole body ached as if it had fallen apart, but just as Jane had said, he could still stand up perfectly fine. Despite the pain, there wasn't a single mark on him.
"Bitch! What are you so proud of?!" Joe scolded.
Sadie stood quietly at the corner of the second floor, watching the scene unfold. She then relayed the entire incident to Anthony, including every word Mr. Green had said to Jane.
The laptop contained many important files, most of which were backed up on the cloud, but the work from the past week hadn't been backed up yet.
Jane immediately searched for nearby laptop repair shops and found that the good ones were quite far away.
After cursing Joe a hundred times in her mind, Jane began to think about how she could convince Ann to let her go out to get the laptop fixed.
‘Ann won’t agree it. Ann will just gloat and say I deserve it,’ Jane thought.
"Jane, I heard your laptop is broken." After the party, just when Jane was at her wit's end, Aurora was wheeled over by Shirley.
Jane didn't say anything because the broken laptop parts were right there on the small table, making the situation obvious.
"I have a friend who's really good at fixing electronics. I can help you," Aurora said.
"No need." Jane started looking for repair shops that offered pickup services.
"Aurora, don’t be kind to this person. You help her but she still doesn't trust you!" Shirley rolled her eyes. "It's just a broken laptop. What's the big deal?"
Aurora glanced subtly at Shirley. Clearly, Shirley didn't understand that in this age of big data, the valuable part wasn't the laptop or the phone itself, but the information stored in these electronic devices.
Just before bed, Jane finally found a repair shop that offered pickup services.
"Where did you go?" Jane had just dropped off her laptop at the property security office and returned to find Anthony standing at the entrance of the Clark family estate, wearing a long coat with his hands in his pockets.
"Getting my laptop fixed," Jane replied irritably as she walked inside.
"The repair skills of those people aren't as good as my guys'," Anthony added.
Jane thought, ‘Even if they're good, they're still your people, which has nothing to do with me. If it weren't for Aurora causing trouble, my laptop wouldn't be broken!’
"Jane, come peel some oranges for me and Aurora," Ann said as soon as she saw Jane return.
This wasn't the first time Ann had ordered Jane around.
Jane could ignore Aurora, but she couldn't ignore Ann because Ann held information about Jovan over her.
Just as Jane was about to walk over, Anthony grabbed her wrist.
"Aren't there servants for that?" Anthony said coldly and glanced at the servant standing next to Aurora, signaling her to peel oranges.
The servant shivered and immediately picked up a fruit knife to start peeling the oranges.
"Anthony, what do you mean?" Ann darkened her face instantly, her sharp gaze falling on Anthony's hand gripping Jane's wrist.
‘Aurora is still here, and he is holding Jane's hand, protecting her!’ Ann thought.
"Ann, what do you think what I mean?" Anthony said, then pulled Jane upstairs.
Anthony was Ann's biological son and had been raised by her. She knew exactly what kind of person Anthony was and what he meant.
Ann was shocked.
She had always suspected that Anthony still had feelings for Jane, but he already had a fiancée! Anthony wasn't that kind of person.
Aurora stared blankly at the scene as if she were numb or heartbroken.
"Aurora, don't be angry or sad. This must be that vixen Jane saying something to Anthony. I'll go talk to Anthony a bit," Ann quickly comforted Aurora, though her heart was filled with fear.
It wasn't until Jane was brought back to her guest room by Anthony that she realized the significance of Anthony's protective behavior.
"Anthony, you..." Jane exclaimed.
Anthony didn't think there was anything wrong with his actions.
Jane hesitated, then changed the subject. "I beat up Joe today."
"So, you want me to back you up?" Anthony thought that beating Joe up was letting him off easy.
If beating Joe had worked, it would have worked three years ago.
So Anthony decided that he should give Joe a more profound lesson.
Jane said, "Can you be more self-absorbed? I'm just letting you know since I beat him up in your house."
Anthony nodded, indicating she could beat him up as she pleased.
After washing up, Jane confirmed the repair status with the shop and went to sleep.
In the middle of the night, she felt a sense of suffocation.
Jane tried to wake up but couldn't, no matter how hard she tried. She felt that her throat and chest were about to burst.
In her hazy consciousness, Jane seemed to hear the sound of someone climbing in through the window.
She wanted to open her eyes to see, but her body was weak and out of her control.
"Jane! What's wrong? Wake up!" Anthony shouted.
