Chapter 413 My Wife Should Sleep with Me
No matter what, Arthur was Tina’s biological father after all. She set aside the toys and asked, "Tina, don’t you like your daddy?”
Tina tilted her head; she seemed to be puzzling over the identities of the men in her life, trying to discern who was her father and who was her uncle.
"Yes," Tina responded decisively after a moment.
"Why? Is your daddy not handsome?"
In theory, Oliver had a cold and stern aura while Arthur had a gentle aura. One would think that the child would prefer Arthur more.
“Handsome!” Tina said, confident in her judgment of beauty.
"Then why don’t you like your daddy?”
Tina put down her new toy and said angrily, “Daddy is mean! He doesn’t spend time with me and mommy!”
She pouted and continued to say, “All the other kids have daddies!”
Natalie paused to gently caress Tina's head, feeling sorry for her. "But you liked your uncle when you thought he was your daddy…”
Tina had a ready response to this inquiry.
"Uncle is not Daddy! He’s not mean!"
Natalie, taken aback by this revelation, asked, "You... You knew that your uncle wasn’t your daddy?"
With a playful tilt of her head, Tina admitted, "Yes!"
Since she vaguely understood that Oliver and Natalie were a couple, she naturally knew that Oliver was not her father. Nonetheless, this did not stop her from calling Oliver ‘Daddy’.
…
Oliver did not really believe that Tina would cling to Natalie every night until now.
Checking the time, he sent a message to Natalie asking if she was asleep.
Natalie, dimming her phone, captured a photo of Tina, who was sound asleep in her arms.
The little girl, with her fists gently clenched and resting on her chest, looked like a doll. The sight was so endearing it could soften even the hardest of hearts.
Out of nowhere, the slight noise of a lock being undone shattered the quiet.
As the door swung open, a tall figure stepped in, his features hidden by the backlight from the hallway.
Natalie lowered her voice and asked, “What are you doing here?”
Oliver reached for Natalie, lifting her in his arms.
Caught off guard, Natalie quickly shifted her position to prevent disturbing Tina.
Luckily, Tina merely scrunched her face and rolled over, continuing to sleep peacefully.
Natalie felt a wave of relief wash over her, but just as she was about to relax, Oliver whisked her away from the room.
"Where are you taking me?" Natalie asked, attempting to wriggle free.
"To sleep with me," Oliver said, moving toward their bedroom.
Oliver was clearly unhappy.
Natalie had spent the last two nights with Tina, inadvertently neglecting Oliver, which stirred a sense of guilt within her.
"Wait, let me make sure Tina is snug under her blanket," Natalie said.
"I'll wait. Make it quick, or you’ll be in trouble after this," Oliver said.
Natalie naturally understood Oliver’s meaning.
Concerned that Tina might uncover herself, Natalie ensured the blanket was securely placed and turned on the heating before she left.
…
Indeed, Oliver’s intention was far from innocent. Upon their entry into the master bedroom, he pinned Natalie against the door and kissed her passionately…
After an unknown amount of time had passed, Oliver carried Natalie to bed after their bath.
At this moment, Natalie wanted nothing more than to sleep. Alas, just as sleep was about to claim her, a knock at the door echoed through the room.
"Sir, Miss Tina is awake and crying for her mother!" a helper said from the other side of the door.
With this, coupled with his experiences over the last two days, Oliver had completely given up on the idea of having a child.
Natalie, suddenly awakened by the news, felt a wave of exhaustion wash over her once again. Angered, she weakly kicked Oliver, complaining, "This is all your fault!"
Internally, Oliver blamed Arthur.
‘His daughter can even go to sleep alone!’
Nonetheless, indulging in one's desires often led to a better mood. He looked at Natalie apologetically and carried her out of the room.
The helper had already turned on the dim bedside lamp.
Tina, seated at the bed's edge clutching her blanket, looked at Natalie with eyes filled with tears as she asked, “Why did you leave?”
Catching Natalie's cue, Oliver carefully placed her on the bed. Tina wasted no time diving into her arms, fearful she might disappear again.
"Tina, Natalie is my wife, so she has to sleep with me,” Oliver explained to his niece as he crouched down to look at her.
Natalie shot Oliver a warning look, signaling him to keep quiet.
Oliver pretended he did not understand and asked, “Is there something wrong with what I said? You’re overthinking things…”
‘Would I overthink if it weren’t for what you did earlier?’
Fortunately, despite Tina's precociousness, she remained oblivious to the nuanced implications of their conversation.
"But Mommy always sleeps with me!" Tina defended.
Oliver thought to himself, ‘And that’s your father’s fault!’
Natalie could not bear to see Tina cry. Moreover, she knew it was only natural for a child to seek comfort in unfamiliar surroundings. Hence, she decisively instructed Oliver to return to their bedroom without her.
…
Oliver lay on the bed. The more he thought about the situation, the more unsettling he felt.
Despite the time, he called Jamie, asking, "Have you located her yet?"
Roused from sleep and fighting fatigue, Jamie forced himself to wake up before he replied, “Not yet.”
"Make it quick!" Oliver presses.
"Understood, I'm on it!"
Jamie glanced at the clock, pondering the possibility that his boss was experiencing some domestic strife.
…
Due to crying last night, Tina woke up with puffy eyes.
Natalie gently helped her to reduce the swelling with a cold compress.
During breakfast, Tina's sharp memory brought up the previous night's events. She asked, “Do you really have to sleep with Uncle?”
"Do you want to sleep with me?” Natalie asked. In her mind, she felt that she did not want to sleep with Oliver either. She really wanted to say she would sleep with Tina, but she was aware of Oliver staring at her with a warning in his gaze.
Tina pouted. Thinking that her uncle said that Natalie had to sleep with him, she did not know how to respond for a moment. After a while, she said to Natalie, “Mama Natalie, why don’t you sleep with me until my mommy comes back?”
Then, she cleverly looked at Oliver and added, “Is it okay? Just a little while!”
