Chapter 341 Mrs. Windsor Gets Mad

"Natalie," he began, "possesses eyes of such beauty. When she graces the world with her smile, her eyes curve with an elegance that is nothing short of gentle."

In that moment, a question stirred within Roger. Just how captivating could a young girl's eyes be? How gentle could her demeanor truly manifest?

He recalled the subtle nod of his head. Would his brother's spirit be forever restless if he hadn't? Yet, a promise was a matter of the living. What promise could one make to the departed? Roger found no faith in such notions.

He had never been a man of benevolence.

Following his brother's demise, Roger returned his remains to their hometown for a final rest. He adopted the name "Roger," a tribute to his brother's legacy. As for the girl his brother had entrusted to him, her memory had long since faded.

Upon reuniting with Natalie, Roger often pondered whether divine retribution was the cause of their prolonged separation. Yet, if it was indeed punishment, he accepted it, for he had found her in the end.

In the quiet hours of the night, a pang of jealousy towards his brother would occasionally stir within Roger. He envied his brother's youthful innocence, his cherished memories with Natalie. He envied Natalie for her enduring memory of his brother, a mere childhood friend to whom she owed a debt.

When Roger reflected upon himself, he saw a coward, a man who dared not confront his past. Had Natalie not discovered his hidden identity as a killer from the onset, he would have continued to deceive her, concealing his darkness.

She was his little princess, a beacon of starlight he couldn't release, yet couldn't bear to tarnish.

While Natalie and Roger conversed, Oliver observed them from afar, his gaze vacant, occasionally betraying a hint of melancholy and intense emotion.

Had Charles not known that his young master was ignorant of lip-reading, he might have suspected Oliver of eavesdropping on the lady's conversation. When Charles witnessed Roger pat Natalie's head, he half-expected Oliver to rush over and confront his romantic rival. Surprisingly, Oliver managed to restrain himself.

Eventually, Natalie's expression softened as she approached Roger. Her gaze towards him had transformed from detached politeness to a clear sense of intimacy.

Oliver's eyes darkened as he intercepted Natalie, still a few steps away. He wrapped his arms around her, adjusted her coat, and nudged Roger aside. Suppressing his anger, he gently asked Natalie, "Is it over?"

Natalie, not wanting to engage with him, turned to Roger and said, "Mr. Wild, thank you for sharing all this with me."

Roger responded with a smile and a farewell, adding, "If you ever need anything, don't hesitate to call." His parting glance at Oliver was a clear implication: If Oliver wrongs you, let me know, and I'll handle it.

Had Natalie not been in a somber mood, Oliver would have surely retorted. He wondered what Roger had said to Natalie that had sparked such affection towards him.

"Are you all leaving?" Susan, who had been overlooked, suddenly spoke up as everyone prepared to depart.

Except for Oliver, everyone present was a friend of Natalie's. Even Oliver was Natalie's partner. However, Susan had a strong sense of entitlement. Anyone else in her position would have been embarrassed long ago.

Oliver glanced at Natalie, who seemed indifferent, as if she hadn't heard Susan's words. She chose not to engage with Susan excessively, to avoid appearing spiteful. While she held no fondness for Susan, she couldn't pinpoint any significant faults either.

"Susan, would you like your assistant to pick you up, or should I arrange for someone to drop you off at home?" Oliver inquired.

Susan didn't mask the disappointment in her eyes. "I… I'll have my assistant come pick me up."

With that, she glanced at Natalie, as if implying, "Since Natalie seems unhappy, I'll graciously arrange for my own transportation."

Only then did Natalie acknowledge her, lifting the corner of her mouth in a meaningful gesture, a blend of politeness, disdain, and provocation.

How had the woman who once eloquently implied an intimate relationship with Oliver to the vice dean of the design college become so pitiable and fragile?

One by one, the others departed in their cars.

Susan's assistant promptly arrived, and Oliver escorted Susan to the vehicle.

Natalie preferred Oliver personally seeing Susan off rather than continuing to deal with her. She remained in place, conversing with Emily.

Emily, who had driven herself, wasn't in a rush to leave.

"Lilian is quite remarkable. She actually stood up for you," Emily commented, surprised by Lilian's swift action in the face of Susan's betrayal.

Susan was emotionally intelligent and adept at disguising her true intentions. She rarely failed to win someone over. As for Lilian, her naivety likely blinded her to the subtleties of Susan's schemes.

Natalie responded with a relieved smile.

Before departing, Emily offered a final piece of advice, "Natalie, be wary of Susan. There's more to her than meets the eye."

Natalie nodded in gratitude, "Thank you, Emily."

Today, Oliver arrived in a Bentley Mulsanne. The Rolls-Royce was no longer within his purview.

As Natalie entered the car, she deliberately avoided Oliver's hand, maintaining a cold expression. Her anger was still palpable.

It was only then that Oliver realized her earlier distance wasn't due to the public scrutiny outside; she was merely respecting him.

"Natalie..." Oliver called out helplessly.

Natalie turned her head away, continuing to ignore him.

Taking a shallow breath, Oliver patiently explained with a hint of grievance, "I didn't give Susan a ride, and she didn't take this car to the hospital."

Natalie hadn't considered this possibility and took a moment to respond. She replied coldly, "That has nothing to do with me."

"How can it have nothing to do with you? If Mrs. Windsor can't even stand the Bentley in the future, should I drive a Ferrari to work?" Oliver's tone was resigned yet indulgent.

He had never seen a chairman drive a sports car to a business meeting, especially someone as serious and restrained as Oliver.

Natalie rolled her eyes. If the situation weren't so tense, she might have found amusement in his words.

Unable to sway Natalie, Oliver personally contacted the PR department to immediately clarify the rumors surrounding his marriage to Natalie. He also instructed Jamie to locate Hailey as soon as possible.
