Chapter 1055 The Beginning of Reconciliation
"Ms. Watkins, didn't you once say that life is short and we should enjoy it while we can? Since the past is already behind us, there's no point in dwelling on it. Don't you agree? Besides, you're carrying Mr. Clark's child, which means fate wants you two to be inseparable." Billy was a firm believer in karma, and he often talked about fate.
"Billy, this is different." Jane looked out the window and, after a moment, said, "I want to let go, but only if my brother returns safely and we can be reunited without any shackles."
Jane had heard that pregnant women tend to be more sentimental. She didn't think much of it at the time, but now she was experiencing it firsthand.
The hormone changes made Jane more emotional, to the point where she didn't even have the energy to think about what she wanted for dinner.
Billy cooked according to Jane's usual tastes.
Jane was not a fan of cilantro, but she absolutely loved beef stew with cilantro. To her, beef stew without cilantro was just not complete, lacking the vibrant flavor and freshness that cilantro brought.
Anthony patiently picked out all the cilantro from the beef stew.
"Are you full?" Anthony had just finished picking out the cilantro when he saw Jane had already put down her fork.
Jane responded coldly, feeling down and having no appetite.
Anthony frowned; she had eaten too little. He tapped the table to get Jane's attention. "Have some more, and I'll tell you news about Jovan Watkins."
Jane's eyes lit up. "How is my brother?"
"Good news," Anthony said, forking a piece of beef for Jane. "Eat up, and I'll tell you all about it."
Anthony was like dangling a piece of candy in front of Jane, enticing her to behave.
Without hesitation, Jane picked up her fork again, speared the beef, and quickly chewed and swallowed it, then looked eagerly at Anthony.
Her eyes were like a cat waiting to be fed, urging its owner to hurry up.
Anthony felt like laughing for a moment, not sure if he wanted to laugh at how cute Jane looked or at his own helplessness with her.
"Eat a bit more." This time, Anthony didn't hand Jane any food. "Pick what you like yourself, eat at least ten bites, until you're full."
Billy had made more than ten dishes, each in small portions.
About five minutes later, Jane put down her fork.
"I'm done." Exactly ten bites, not one more.
Anthony sighed. "Jane, even the little tykes in kindergarten are more cooperative with their meals than you are."
"What about my brother?" Jane pressed.
"Jovan Watkins is not on the casualty list from the plane crash," Anthony said.
Jane was about to breathe a sigh of relief when she heard Anthony say, "But he might be missing."
"Apart from the casualties, the rest should be on the missing persons list, right?" Jane's heart tightened again.
"The Richardson family hasn't publicly released the list of people on the plane. Or rather, some of them might be kept confidential."
Anthony didn't tell Jane that, based on Ainslee's reaction, Jovan was most likely safe and might even be working on something for Ainslee, dealing with those who were causing trouble.
After all, it was just Anthony's speculation, not something he had confirmed. Not telling Jane wasn't really deceiving her, right?
It was not uncommon for big families to keep the passenger list of private planes confidential.
Jane looked worriedly at the table, praying that Jovan wasn't on that plane.
In any case, Jovan not being on the casualty list was a good thing.
"Thank you, Anthony," Jane said sincerely.
Anthony was stunned, looking at Jane in surprise. She was thanking him? How could that be?
Jane, having gotten the information she wanted, thanked him and went straight upstairs to her room.
"Jane..." Anthony took a few steps after her.
Jane waved her hand, clearly done with the conversation. After a two-second pause, she said, "I'll still say thanks when you tell me more about my brother."
Anthony stood there, watching Jane disappear up the stairs.
After a long while, he laughed to himself.
"You think you can get me to spill the beans with a simple 'thank you'?" Anthony's usually cold eyes softened, like ice melting into water. Then he said to himself, "Anthony Clark, is that all you're good for?"
That was all he was good for. Jane's proactive thank you almost made Anthony spill everything, leaving him with no cards to play.
When Jane chose a room, she indeed wanted to stay as far away from Anthony as possible.
But objectively speaking, all three bedrooms seemed to be prepared for Jane by Anthony.
All the bedding was the silk Jane preferred, and the curtains were double-layered, one layer of blackout fabric and one layer of sheer, allowing her the liberty to choose, even though she was no longer afraid of the dark.
After Jane had chosen a room, the servants brought up a set of English afternoon tea tables and sofas to the balcony.
This was Jane's old habit, sitting on the balcony in the afternoon, enjoying the sun and snacks.
Even though Jane had issues with Anthony, she had to admit he took care of her thoroughly.
Lying in bed, Jane's mind replayed Billy's words, finally settling on the moment she thanked Anthony.
Jane verbally refuted Billy's words, but she was already influenced by them.
It seemed like fate. Jane had just mentioned Jovan to Billy during the day, and Anthony came to her with news about Jovan that night.
"Baby, are you influencing me?" Jane touched her flat belly, asking somewhat unhappily.
