Chapter 238 Protecting From Harm
Although Natalie's deductions were not fully mature or comprehensive, they were entirely correct. Pausing for a moment, Natalie looked up and observed Oliver.
"Please, go on," Oliver encouraged her.
Natalie breathed a sigh of relief, knowing she hadn't said anything wrong. "Actually, I'm almost finished. The last point is that although the Windsor Group is owned by your family, your father may not necessarily hand over this lucrative opportunity to you, so there is no need to pay him any attention. Um... that's all, really. I was just rambling."
"Not bad," Oliver complimented as Natalie settled onto his lap. "Where did you learn all this?"
Natalie's intelligence impressed Oliver, and he leaned in to kiss her affectionately on the lips
"I gained insights during my stint in part-time translation work," Natalie replied. Her role as a translator for a major corporation not only earned her income but also granted her exposure to valuable industry information.
Coupled with her innate intelligence and exceptional abilities, she had gained a rough understanding of various topics.
Furthermore, from a certain perspective, business issues intertwined with broader social problems. Through firsthand observation of the less savory aspects of society and extensive reflection, she naturally developed a nuanced understanding .
Suddenly, a child's surprised voice rang out from downstairs, "Mommy! There's someone up there! Holding someone!"
Oliver's room had a large balcony overlooking a garden. At that moment, a well-dressed lady had brought her baby to play in the garden. The child looked up, pointing curiously at Oliver and Natalie. The guests surrounding the child followed the sound and looked up to see Natalie sitting on Oliver's lap.
With Natalie being the only person wearing a blue dress and Oliver's recognizable silver mask, it was immediately clear who they were.
Natalie's face instantly turned red. She quickly turned around and faced away
"Mr. Windsor, Mrs. Windsor, I apologize! Children don't know any better!" the mother of the child hurriedly apologized.
"It's alright!" Natalie, feeling embarrassed, turned her head back and pretended to be composed as she spoke with the people downstairs.
She discreetly nudged Oliver's arm, hinting for him to speak and divert attention, to avoid further embarrassment. Everyone was waiting for him to accept the apology. Initially, it wasn't anyone's fault. It was just a careless remark.
"It's alright." Oliver lazily got up and took the documents before turning back to his room.
After Oliver and Natalie disappeared from the balcony, the female guests couldn't help but sigh in relief.
"It seems like Oliver and Natalie have a good relationship!"
"Natalie is the favored one now, Hailey is the most miserable."
"No doubt about that. Even if Hailey and Adrian's engagement hadn't been cancelled, could she have lived as well as Natalie? Look at the current state of the Harrington family."
"I just heard someone mentioned that Hailey attended the banquet today."
"Really? That can't be possible! The Watson family elders didn't come today, they only sent gifts. Does Hailey have the audacity to show up?"
"Look over there!" Suddenly, someone pointed in one direction.
It was Hailey dressed in formal attire. And standing beside her was Edwin!
Edwin politely waved to the guests as if nothing had happened and left with Hailey.
Hailey had only been discharged from the hospital less than a week ago. Her abdominal injury hadn't fully healed, and yet Edwin had called her to attend the banquet. She looked pale even after hiding it with heavy makeup.
Due to the previous awkward incident, Natalie felt too embarrassed to go out again and stood by the enormous window looking outside. To her surprise, she saw Hailey walking hand-in-hand with Edwin from a distance.
"Why is Hailey with Edwin?" Natalie asked Oliver, astonished.
Oliver lazily sat on the sofa. He knew about this already and replied, "Edwin brought her to provoke someone."
"To provoke who?"
It was obvious, Victoria and the Harrington family.
Tonight was destined to be a chaotic evening.
Ten minutes after the formal dinner began, Oliver and Natalie finally made their late appearance downstairs.
"You've taken quite a while to make your entrance. The banquet has already begun," Victoria remarked with a subtle smirk at the corner of her eye, a departure from her previous feigned smile.
Victoria's voice was not soft, and everyone around felt that Oliver was being arrogant and rude.
Well, Oliver didn't care. Oliver simply replied with a vague "Hmm."
The surrounding guests suppressed their awkward coughs.
Victoria laughed, unable to contain her amusement. She found herself no longer interested in being around Oliver, so she gracefully walked away, holding her champagne glass and walking in her high heels.
In truth, Oliver wasn't intentionally being arrogant. He had taken a short nap in the bedroom, and Natalie, seeing that the banquet time was approaching, didn't bother to wake him up.
Regardless, the Windsor family's icy reception didn't bother Oliver. Humiliating them meant nothing to him. Unbeknownst to Natalie, she had also started to defend Oliver.
"Sir, Mr. Windsor intends to give the building materials market to Victoria," a servant whispered into Oliver's ear.
Natalie, who was standing close to Oliver, overheard the conversation and was taken by surprise. At the same time, the man she was accompanying suddenly became irritable. A frosty glare appeared in Oliver's eyes.
Natalie recognized the servant after taking a closer look. He was someone who often followed Henry around- Oliver's spy had infiltrated Henry's inner circle!
"Oliver..." Natalie looked at Oliver with concern.
Henry took many things that belonged to Oliver and gave them to Edwin and Victoria. Now, he was extending his reach toward Arthur. It was undoubtedly an attempt to isolate Oliver and leave him with no support!
This torment was not about money or status; it was about the soul.
Oliver quickly regained his composure, his voice cold as he lowered his gaze and said to her, "Natalie, get ready to watch the show."
A seemingly indifferent remark, but it harbored a storm of bloodshed.
On radiant and ceremonious stage, Henry finished his speech and invited the family members to join him.
Natalie and Oliver, strolling leisurely, were quite far away when they heard a commotion coming from the main stage.
Noah had gone abroad to clear his mind, and Victoria was the first to step onto the stage, accompanied by Adrian.
Next was Edwin.
Edwin brought a woman with him, it was Hailey!
And standing in the audience, there was a pregnant woman, Lyra!
Lyra carried the blood of the Harrington family in her belly. She was Henry's first great-grandchild, and although she couldn't go up on stage, she was invited to attend the banquet.
But Lyra didn't care if she could go on stage or not; as long as she made her presence and identity known, it was enough for her!
This scene caused a commotion among the guests as they murmured, "Isn't that the Watson family's daughter? Wasn't she supposed to break off the engagement with the Harrington family's son? Why is she now hanging onto Edwin's arm?"
