Chapter 210 I Like You, I Love You!
The security guards exchanged looks.
‘Why is the young madam’s relative again? Before this it was her younger brother, today it’s her sister. Moreover, all of them don’t follow the usual conventions!’
“Miss Watson, why don’t you call the young madam? If she grants you permission, then you may enter.”
At this suggestion, Hailey's eyes brimmed with fury, her hands balled into fists so tightly that her nails dug into her palms. To think that Natalie received the respect from the Rosewood Estate's security guards. All of this should have belonged to her!
Hailey was caught in a dilemma; she did not want to call Natalie, but she really wanted to see Oliver.
At this time, the Phantom returned. When the car window descended, it revealed a man wearing a silver mask. His light-brown eyes, visible behind the mask, were cool and distant, betraying a hint of disdain.
Overcome with joy, Hailey exclaimed, "I knew you wouldn’t refuse to see me!"
"Mr. Windsor," the security guards greeted respectfully.
Without sparing Hailey a glance, Oliver walked to the side while Jamie told the guards to return to their duties, clearing the area for Oliver.
Spotting an opportunity, Hailey ran over. "Oliver!"
"You have five minutes," Oliver stated, his eyes on his watch as he started the countdown. He did not want to see Hailey’s face, but when he thought she might cause trouble for Natalie, he returned.
Hailey felt conflicted. When she learned that the man she spent the night with was not Oliver, she had been angry at Oliver. However, now that she saw him again, she felt a hint of excitement. She thought to herself, ‘This man was meant to be mine! I can’t accept this! I won’t accept this!’
"You have four minutes left," Oliver reminded her, noticing her intense gaze.
"Oliver, what happened that night?” Hailey asked. Naturally, she did not confess that she tried to drug Oliver.
Oliver only asked in return, “What happened? Have you forgotten what you did?”
This revelation left Hailey pale, her eyes wide and her lips quivering in shock. "How… How did you know? How did you find out?"
Oliver raised an eyebrow mockingly, but he showed no inclination to elaborate. He was not willing to waste an extra word on her.
His indifference fueled Hailey’s rage, and her remaining rationality evaporated. "Oliver, did you alert the reporters to embarrass me?! Why did you leave at that time? You clearly drugged me! How could I have lost consciousness otherwise?”
"Two and a half minutes to go," Oliver remarked, lighting a cigarette to pass the time.
"Are you truly so indifferent toward me?"
Hailey's eyes quickly filled with tears. There was a storm of emotions in her heart: reluctance, humiliation, love, and rage.
"I did all that because I like you, and yet, you handed me over to another man! Do you know how I’ve suffered? Do you know what I had to endure? By doing this, you’re trampling on my feelings for you!”
The area was silent, and although the guards stood at a distance, Hailey's passionate declaration was audible to all. The scene left everyone in disbelief; Miss Watson of the Watson family was openly professing her love for her brother-in-law. They all felt like they had overheard something scandalous! However, when they saw Jamie, they quickly averted their eyes, feigning ignorance.
Oliver extinguished his cigarette. His expression was icy and menacing as he said, "I hope you don’t spout such disgusting nonsense in front of Natalie."
A shiver ran through Hailey at his tone, reminiscent of the Oliver who had once nearly ended Noah's life in a fit of rage. She laughed mockingly.
“Do you really like Natalie that much? Initially, when you married her, you didn’t care about her at all! I was the one who was supposed to marry you! Oliver, the one you should love is me! I was the one who was engaged to you, not Natalie!”
The woman's desperate cry resonated through the dense forest, startling the autumn birds into flight.
As the echo of her voice dwindled, Hailey came to a sudden realization of the gravity of her words. She looked at Oliver anxiously, gauging his reaction and expecting to see shock or anger. However, she saw nothing. In her mind, he should have been furious that he was tricked into marrying an illegitimate child.
Telling the truth about the marriage had required immense courage from Hailey.
"Why... why aren’t you saying anything?"
Confusion and fear clouded Hailey's thoughts, the latter stemming from Oliver's clear indifference. Such indifference signified Natalie's importance to him. This realization stung Hailey deeply.
"You are stupid and ugly,” Oliver said, clearly annoyed.
The harshness of his words brought tears of humiliation to Hailey's eyes. However, she did not leave.
Nearby, the guards struggled to maintain their composure, their shoulders quivering with suppressed laughter at Oliver's blunt retort.
In a sudden burst of emotion, Hailey lunged toward Oliver. She reached for his face, clearly wanting to kiss him.
"Oliver!"
The sound of Natalie's voice pierced the tense atmosphere.
With a frown, Oliver promptly pushed Hailey away; his actions void of any gentleness.
However, Hailey's focus shifted in the moment of distraction, and she seized Oliver's mask, pulling it away.
Oliver's true appearance, unmarred and handsome, was revealed for all to see.
Rooted in place, Hailey stared at Oliver unblinkingly. Although she had already suspected it, she was still shocked. Not only that, but she felt a gut-wrenching pain.
‘This is the real Oliver! He’s handsome and powerful! What have I done?! I actually handed him to Natalie with my own hands!’
The realization of her actions crashed down on her.
"Oliver, your mask!" Natalie said, clearly worried.
“It doesn’t matter,” Oliver said before he asked, “Why did you call out to me earlier?”
“I thought she was going to attack you, so I wanted to warn you,” Natalie explained. Her initial panic had vanished, replaced by a sheepish smile as she added, “However, I should’ve known that with your abilities, she would not pose any threat.”
