Chapter 198 Getting Drunk

Natalie was feeling slightly irritated. From the moment she entered Rosewood Estate, she had sensed the envy directed at her for being with Oliver. Cadence had made that clear to her. She was tired of this constant feeling. Such an attitude made it seem as if women were destined to compete for their men, an idea she found indescribable. But it surely did not justify complicating her life, marriage, and personal affairs, did it?

Natalie and Lucas’ mother was a third party in someone else’s marriage. Despite lacking a father figure since childhood and encountering unwelcoming attitudes upon joining the Watson family, Natalie had been the third party in another person’s relationship. Her mother also did not intend to disrupt Robert and Mrs. Watson's marriage.

Moreover, she had never troubled the Watson family. Robert willingly brought her and Lucas back and even planned to use her.

Eventually, Natalie discovered the shocking truth that her supposed birth mother did not even love Robert at all.

Oliver had once inquired about her expectations from their marriage. She did not seek love, but she desired mutual respect and fidelity within the marriage.

"Natalie, stop!"

Natalie halted when she heard someone calling out to her arrogantly. She took a deep breath and turned around, puzzled by the day's continuous disturbances. She saw Lyra, whom she had not seen in a while.

Lyra had changed her hair back to its original black color. She no longer wore heavy makeup and was dressed in the staff’s uniform. While her features were unchanged, her skin bore the marks of hardship, rendering her almost unrecognizable.

"Natalie, I captured a video of your earlier conversation with Adrian. Let's make a deal," Lyra said bluntly. She showed Natalie the footage on her phone as proof, despite Natalie's clear rejection of Adrian in the video. Such recordings, however, were dangerously easy to manipulate by editing out specific segments.

"What deal?" Natalie frowned. "Lyra, why are you here?"

With a self-mocking laugh, Lyra asked, “Do you think I want to be here? Evans suffered, and I got implicated as well. I was fired and couldn’t find a job. In the end, I had to come here to make some money!”

Working here was just a pretense; her real goal was to attract the attention of the wealthy individuals here. Alas, she failed miserably. Although it was unexpected, it was fortunate that she ran into Natalie. She also did not expect that Natalie’s husband was Oliver.

"What is it that you want?" Natalie pressed.

Lyra revealed her ambition. “I want to become a top model!”

“I’m barely a D-list model now. How can I help you with that? You should come up with something realistic,” Natalie said, scoffing at Lyra’s wishful thinking.

Lyra thought that Natalie had a point. She changed her words, saying, “Then give me fifty million dollars, and I’ll disappear. You have to give me the money. It’s your fault that I ended up like this!”

Natalie looked at Lyra as though the latter was crazy as she said, “I never intended to target you. You’re not worth being targeted.”

Lyra, infuriated, scolded, “Don’t act innocent! Hailey can prove that it’s all your fault! Evans was ruined because of you! If Evans was not targeted, would I end up like this?”

Natalie knew that Lyra was not very well-informed; it was impossible for Lyra to know that Oliver was behind Evans’ downfall. To confirm her suspicion, Natalie approached and asked in a low voice, “Hailey told you that, didn’t she?”

“H-how do you know?” Lara’s arrogance vanished immediately.

Natalie said in a sinister tone, “Lyra, did you see what happened to Arwyn? Hailey used her to deal with me, but look at what happened to her.”

Lyra, known for bullying the weak and fearing the strong, trembled as she looked at Natalie in horror. "Natalie, killing is against the law!"

"Was Arwyn killed? She died in an accident. By the way, Arwyn's death has nothing to do with me. However," Natalie paused, looking at Lyra's trembling lips, before she said, "However, it had something to do with opposing me."

She implied indirect involvement.

"Lyra, use your brain. Did I truly cause your current situation? Is opposing me worthwhile? Who would benefit from targeting me? Can this video truly become a weapon against me? If you anger me, you will not gain anything!"

Natalie was not worried about Oliver seeing the video, especially after what Adrian had said earlier. In fact, if Oliver saw it, she could use it to ask for clarification.

"Are you saying... Hailey?" Lyra's face turned pale.

Natalie logged into her food-related Instagram account and posted a story asking her followers what she should do if she was unhappy. The majority of her followers suggested that she eat.

For her, this advice was not suitable. She was not only a model but also needed to maintain a level of professional conduct.

Many followers also suggested that she drink.

Jane used to drown her sorrows in alcohol, but Natalie had always exercised self-control. However, now, she suddenly felt inclined to try it.

There was a private bar on the island.

After nightfall, the bar became more crowded.

The DJ took over, lights flashed, and dancers heated up the atmosphere. It was lively.

Natalie found a quiet corner, ordered a variety of alcohols, beverages, and juices, and began mixing her own cocktails. After tasting a small glass and approving of the mix, she would offer another glass to the bartender to try.

The young bartender praised with a thumbs-up, "I thought you came here alone to get drunk, but you're actually here to rock my world. Your cocktails taste even better than mine!"

Natalie smiled.

Originally intending to get drunk, she feared the trouble it might bring. For her, the joy was not in drinking but in mixing drinks. She had a period when she was obsessed with mixing drinks. Her tolerance for alcohol was high because of that, making it rare for her to become easily intoxicated.

At this time, Natalie's phone rang, but upon seeing the caller, she angrily put the phone on silent and ignored the call. No matter how many times the person called, she did not care.
Married to an Ugly Husband? No!
