Chapter 1078 I Agreed to Marry Him

The rumors outside were getting nastier.

The day Ann came to Emerald Gardens to find Jane, many people in Emerald Gardens heard about it. Because there was safety in numbers, these people weren't worried about the gossip spreading or Anthony holding a grudge. Anthony couldn't figure out who spread the news.

Jane, on the other hand, had no reaction, calmly watching the people not far away.

"Let's go." After two seconds, Jane turned and left.

In the past, she might have wanted to go up and have a big argument, but now, she didn't even have the interest to argue.

"Ms. Watkins, those people are just jealous of you, that's why they say such things. I'll tell Mr. Clark about this, and he will seek justice for you." the servant tried to comfort Jane.

Jane found the words "jealous" and "justice" amusing.

"What do they have to be jealous of?" Jane tilted her head and asked the servant, "Jealous that my child is disliked by his future grandmother? Or jealous that my son will be someone who can't be seen in public? What justice is there to speak of? Are they spreading rumors, or has our country's law suddenly banned free speech?"

The servant was speechless, unable to say a word.

Jane must have been on the debate team in school, being so articulate!

"Let's go take pictures by the lake. The photos we took there before had a good composition, just the natural light refraction was a bit off," Jane said, already striding towards the artificial lake.

"Ms. Watkins..." The maid stoped in mid-sentence

"I'm fine. No need to comfort me," Jane interrupted the servant, lowering her eyes to hide the self-mockery in them. "I don't like being pitied. Forget everything you just heard, understand?"

"Okay. Understood," the maid replied.

Only those who had been hurt would put on a layer of armor when facing malicious words.

Despite what Jane said, the servant still told Anthony about the incident.

Anthony was negotiating a contract when he received the call.

At the negotiation table, the partners saw Anthony's face getting darker and darker, and no one dared to make a sound.

"Who were they?" Anthony asked.

The servant, having been trained, recognized most of the people in the high society circle and identified the few ladies present today. As for the few she didn't recognize, they were of lesser status.

"Mr. Clark, is there a problem with the contract?" The partner looked at Anthony in fear.

Why did Anthony suddenly look like he wanted to skin him alive? Had he offended Anthony somehow?

Anthony looked at the partner coldly, as if suppressing some emotion.

After half a second, he said, "The deal is off. Meeting adjourned."

Anthony stood up, ready to leave, his back exuding a dark, oppressive aura.

"Mr. Clark, we had already agreed on the contract!" The partner chased after him, immediately making concessions. "How about this, we sincerely want to cooperate with your company. I can offer an additional five percent discount. Are you satisfied with that?"

"Go ask your wife what she did," Anthony coldly said.

The partner was dumbfounded. His wife was just a housewife who spent money and hung out with other ladies. How had she offended Anthony?

He needed to go back and ask his wife, the misdoer!

Due to Anthony's deterrence, the news about Jane's pregnancy and being mocked by Ann only spread in a small circle within the high society of South City.

Who knew, before the news even cooled down, there was another revelation.

The wife of a tech company executive had offended Jane, causing the executive to be humiliated by Anthony at the negotiation table. The contract was canceled a minute before signing!

It was clear to everyone that Anthony was standing up for Jane!

The voices mocking Jane disappeared in an instant. The ladies were all warned by their husbands not to say a bad word about Jane! If they angered Anthony, there would be no allowance next month! Want to buy a bag? Dream on!

Aurora found out about these events when the whole incident was nearing its end.

She said furiously, "Jane is really pregnant with Anthony's child. Not only does Anthony accompany her shopping, but he also defends her. When I was pregnant, Anthony didn't even come to the hospital to see me."

She sat on the sofa in a daze, suddenly picking up the tea set on the table and smashing it on the ground.

The porcelain shattered all over the floor.

The servant shivered in fear, not daring to make a sound.

Since giving birth to her son, Aurora had become moody, completely shedding her hypocritical facade.

"Jane, Jane...!" Aurora muttered Jane's name like a curse, as if possessed.

She would never let Jane have it easy!

No one could live a smooth life forever. If she couldn't, neither could Jane!

"Go tell Hubert that I agree to marry him. Let's have the wedding as soon as possible," Aurora instructed the servant.

Aurora had given birth to Hubert's son. Although Hubert didn't particularly like Aurora, he was satisfied with her becoming his wife and was willing to give her the position. His family, feeling guilty because Aurora got pregnant with Hubert's child while she was still Anthony's fiancée, didn't want to face public condemnation and had proposed marriage to the Dewar family earlier, but Aurora hadn't agreed.

Aurora felt Hubert wasn't good enough for her.

But at this moment, she was willing to sacrifice her marital happiness to have a legitimate reason to flaunt in front of Jane and Anthony!

She wouldn't let anyone who caused her pain get away!

Married to an Ugly Husband? No!
