Chapter524 Investigation

Jamie pulled open the car door, asking with caution, "Sir, shall we get going?"

Oliver stubbed out his cigarette before getting into the car. "Jamie, find out who leaked the news about my divorce from Natalie."

"Could it be Mada...? Right!" Jamie started sweating as he realized this.

Could anyone else be behind this? What were they trying to accomplish?

"First, take me back to the Rosewood Estate, and then I need you to make me a copy of the key to Natalie's house."

"Sure... What??" Jamie gave his boss a look that conveyed volumes. "Sir, making a copy of your wife's key without her permission is, well... illegal."

"I'm not stealing anything," Oliver asserted with indignant confidence. What was wrong with him making a key to his own wife's house?

At the Rosewood Estate.

Marjorie was fuming.

"Liam, what's going on with Oliver? I thought I arranged a perfect opportunity for him and Natalie to see each other. I was expecting Natalie to be back any day now, but then there's this rumor spreading about Natalie being proposed to by another man?"

Liam sat to the side, choosing to remain silent.

"And what's with those brands acting up? Trying to put Natalie down by seizing the chance to cut ties? How dare they terminate contracts on a whim? After all the profit I've generated for them over the years, don't they have any sense?" Marjorie vented with righteous anger.

"Ma'am," Liam couldn't hold back a fair word, "Those companies probably think Natalie and Oliver are divorced. Plus, you’ve been so low-profile all these years, nobody knows Natalie is your granddaughter-in-law."

"What did you say?" Marjorie turned to look at Liam, her look demanding an answer.

Liam respectfully replied, "But they are indeed out of line."

"That's right! Out of line!"

Liam was speechless. Soothing an elderly person was no easy task.

After a moment of thought, Marjorie conceded, "Liam, on reflection, I might be part of the problem."

Liam managed a strained smile.

"I kept too low a profile before. That was my mistake," Marjorie admitted. "From now on, I need to be there backing Natalie! After all, I was the one who handpicked her as my favorite granddaughter-in-law!"

Liam remained silent.

As soon as Oliver walked in, he was bombarded with his grandmother's reproach.

"Oliver! What's gotten into you, huh? You send your wife packing just because her leg's healed? Have you no shame?!"

"...I'm sorry, Grandma. My fault," Oliver conceded, then slipped into the kitchen to speak with the chef.

Marjorie was stunned, whispering to Liam for confirmation, "Did he just admit he was wrong to me? Was that really my grandson?"

"Indeed, ma'am. That was Oliver," Liam confirmed. "Natalie must take the credit for this."

Marjorie's resolve to win Natalie back only grew firmer.

After dinner, Jamie delivered a set of spare keys, and the chef handed Oliver a takeout box filled with packed food.

Marjorie eyed her eldest grandson suspiciously. "Where on earth are you taking that?"

Oliver just glanced at his grandmother without a word.

"You're not falling for a temptress out there, are you?" Marjorie frowned. "No way! Absolutely not! Unacceptable!"

"Grandma, didn't you dislike Natalie? Weren't you against her divorcing me?" Oliver questioned.

"I—I..." Marjorie straightened her posture and huffed, "I still don't like her!"

But like or dislike is relative, and compared to those other temptresses, she disliked them even more than she disliked the absence of Natalie!

Oliver grabbed his things and stepped out, calling on an assistant who'd never met Natalie before.

The junior assistant, directly under Jamie, had never spoken directly to the big boss before. He arrived at the grand Maple Villa, his heart racing, dressed in the courier uniform the boss had ordered.

"Mr. Windsor, how may I assist you?" Being personally tasked by the big boss was an honor for him. For a low-level assistant like himself, the RK Corporation had plenty to spare.

"Deliver this to Building 12, Suite 1601, and don't tell anyone, got it?" Oliver nodded toward Maple Villa.

"Got it!" The assistant thought to himself, Mr. Windsor must be courting some lovely lady!

The assistant arrived at the specified door, buzzing with excitement, but was flabbergasted the moment it swung open.

"Natalie..." He quickly clamped his mouth shut.

Wasn't it over between Mr. Windsor and Natalie? Why was he delivering something to her?

Natalie eyed him suspiciously. "Who are you looking for?"

The assistant lifted the delivery bag slightly, stumbling over his words, "F-food delivery."

"I didn't order any food. You've got the wrong place." Natalie, finding him quite odd, began to close the door, but the assistant hastily stopped it.

"Isn't this Maple Villa, Building 12, Suite 1601?"

"Yes, it is."

Natalie glanced at the delivery receipt, noticing the food was from a famous restaurant.

The delivery address was clearly printed on the slip in black and white.

After receiving the order, she cautiously called the restaurant to inquire if someone had placed an order to her address.

The restaurant didn't usually deliver, but exceptions were made.

Already briefed by Oliver, the customer service rep said, "Miss Watson, indeed someone ordered a meal for you. But as you know our policy, we're obligated to protect our patrons' privacy, so we can't disclose who made the order. Enjoy your meal!"

The rep sighed – the meal clearly wasn't prepared in their kitchen.

Only after verifying the source did Natalie allow herself to dine.
Married to an Ugly Husband? No!
