Chapter 994 Brother Knows His Limits

"Jovan!"

"Jane!"

Anthony was momentarily distracted. In that brief lapse, Jane, who had promised to behave and not run off, dashed away.

Anthony tried to chase after her, but the crowd in the middle of the dance floor blocked his way. By the time he could move again, Jane had vanished from his sight.

"Damn it!"

Anthony cursed and immediately contacted his people on the cruise to search for Jane. And he prayed that nothing would go wrong.

On this ship, there were people who wanted Jane dead and others who wanted to kidnap her.

"Jovan!"

Jane followed the figure out of the ballroom, through two hallways, but then lost sight of him.

There was no one around. Jane could only hear her own breathing.

Her impulsive mind suddenly cleared, and she became alert, scanning her surroundings and realizing she had no idea where she was.

The cruise ship was complex, and the people in this cruise was especially complicated.

Jane's reason told her she might have been mistaken or even fallen into a trap.

But emotionally, she felt certain that she had seen Jovan.

Jane kept looking around, hesitating on how to find the person she had just seen. If it really was Jovan, she couldn't rest until she found him and saw him face to face.

'The ballroom was crowded. What if Jovan just didn't see me?’ Jane thought.

Hurried footsteps and low voices came from a quiet corner of the corridor.

"Hurry! Jane Watkins is not with Anthony Clark right now!"

"Capture Jane Watkins alive, and it's a million dollars each!"

Jane's face changed dramatically. She cursed herself for being reckless and quickly started back the way she came.

At the very least, she couldn't cause trouble for Anthony or become a pawn for anyone.

"She's here!"

Several men rushed towards her from behind.

Jane took off her high heels and threw them at the pursuers, buying herself two seconds, then lifted her skirt and ran.

The number of pursuers increased. From the sound, there were at least seven or eight of them.

They were professionals, so Jane couldn't fight them alone. But it was too late to go back the way she came, she had to escape quickly and reach a crowded public area where she would be safe.

Her long dress was cumbersome. When she slipped on the stairs, she twisted her ankle.

Jane's pace slowed, and her heart sank. She could almost imagine Anthony's furious face. If he found her later, he would probably scold her harshly.

'But I deserved it!' she thought.

Jane's arm was suddenly grabbed. She instinctively screamed, and a force pulled her into a dark space.

Just a door away, the sound of seven or eight people rushing past could be heard.

Jane sensed someone beside her and kicked out.

Her ankle was gently caught, and at the same time, she heard Jovan's low chuckle.

The laugh was deep, filled with familiar joy and affection, but also with a hint of unfamiliar hoarseness.

Jane's heart trembled.

"Sweetheart."

With Jovan's whisper, a flashlight beam lit up, revealing his face.

Short silver hair, handsome features, and a nose and eyes similar to Jane's. Because of his hair color, he looked a bit like a Western half-breed.

Jovan's smile was full of affection and innate mischief, and his black eyes reflected Jane's transition from vigilance to shock to ecstatic joy.

"Jovan!"

Jane cried tears of joy and she threw herself into Jovan's arms. "Jovan, it's really you! I wasn't mistaken!"

Jovan helplessly patted Jane's hair with a smile in his eyes. "I thought I could fool you. Your eyesight has always been sharp."

"Why did you try to fool me?" Jane, being smart, quickly caught the key point. "Jovan, you knew I was on the ship all along, didn't you? Why didn't you come to see me? How did you get out of the hospital? I heard you went missing. Why didn't you tell me where you were? I was so worried about you..."

Jane was both rejoicing and lamenting. She thought, 'To get news about you, I have to humble myself and stay with the Clark family!'

"I'm sorry. It's my fault." Jovan admitted to all of Jane's complaints without exception.

"Why are you here, Jovan?" Jane asked.

"I didn't want you to find out so soon, but I couldn't help but took a few glances at you. Who knew that your eyes were so sharp and could spot me," Jovan said, feeling more and more helpless. However, if given another chance, he would still sneak a look at Jane.

How could he, who had raised Jane with such care, bear not to see her?

"Why didn't you want to see me?" Jane quickly figured it out. "Why can't we meet now?"

"Because it's not safe," Jovan replied. He had just learned that some reckless people were trying to get to Jane.

"Jovan, you're with the Richardson family now, right?" Jane asked.

"You even know that?" Jovan was a bit surprised. Then he thought Anthony had told Jane.

Jane wanted to say that the Richardson family was dangerous and risky, but she couldn't interfere with Jovan's choices. Jovan must have had his reasons for choosing the Richardson family.

Jane didn't know how Jovan had managed these past few months after leaving the hospital, so she had no reason to judge or guide his choices and decisions.

What she could do was to support Jovan.

As for the danger level of the Richardson family, the Watkins family was also a legitimate family back then but still got targeted by it.

'Anyway, as long as Jovan is safe, that is no matter,' Jane thought.

"Don't worry. I know what I am doing," Jovan reassured, knowing what Jane was thinking. "I've already arranged for those people to dealt with them. If anyone asks, don't mention me."

Jane felt that "anyone" referred to Anthony.

Thinking of Anthony, Jane felt a bit guilty.

"Jovan, you must have seen me standing with Anthony?"

'Jovan must have seen it and his eyesight is very good,' she thought.

At the mention of Anthony, Jovan's expression became somewhat meaningful, but there was no hatred.

Jane always felt that the atmosphere between Jovan and Anthony was very subtle.

When the Watkins family had their incident, it was Anthony's doing. And Jovan almost lost his life and was bedridden for two years .

However, Jovan never showed any sign of blaming Anthony.

What Jane didn't know was that when she sent Jovan to the best medical team in Everville, it was Clint, under Anthony's orders, who overcame many obstacles. Anthony also played a role in convincing the top medical team to treat Jovan.
