Chapter 701 A Falling Out?
"Scared you, did I?" Marjorie continued to look at Natalie with a grin, evidently not struck by the gravity of what she had just revealed.
Natalie blinked several times, taking a while to process the shock. To say she wasn't frightened would be a lie.
Both Marjorie's actions and her current composure were astonishing.
"Grandma...why would you do that?" Natalie couldn't fathom her grandmother's motives.
Gazing out the window, Marjorie said pensively, "Natalie, everyone must atone for their sins; no one can escape it. If he had just served his time in prison quietly, that would have been one thing, but he couldn't keep still. Some things I should take care of, not Oliver. I didn't raise him right, so I saw him off."
"But is it really okay for you to have done that?" In truth, Natalie had little interest in Henry's fate, feeling no more than a passing regret.
Had she not received the news of Henry's death today, Natalie would have almost forgotten the man existed.
‘Weak bodies are prone to illness and death; it's not that I made anyone sick, and I'm no doctor, so what problem could I have? Besides, even if people found out, isn't it normal for an octogenarian lady like me to make a confused decision?‘ Marjorie had carefully thought through her choice of "do not resuscitate" by the time she made it.
Natalie spent some time with Marjorie until she fell asleep, and only then did she head downstairs.
Arthur had already returned, dressed in a dark striped suit with a slightly wrinkled shirt, looking as if he had rushed over.
He arrived while Natalie was still upstairs with the elderly lady.
"Sister-in-law," Arthur greeted Natalie with his signature genteel smile as he continued to review the documents the lawyer had given him.
Natalie nodded her head and looked around, asking, "Are you alone, Arthur?"
Flora and Tina didn't come?
Arthur looked up at the mention of his name, a smile playing in his eyes as he regarded Natalie, "Sister-in-law, do you already accept me?"
Natalie was startled for a second before she realized Arthur had taken her words in a roundabout way to imply something else.
"You're reading too much into it," Natalie said, "And it sounds like you're still dreaming."
Arthur was left speechless.
Oliver couldn't help but laugh out loud, not sparing any dignity for his younger brother.
"Arthur, why don't you sign the inheritance paperwork before catching up?" the lawyer suggested, having waited a good while for Arthur to sign.
Arthur tossed the inheritance transfer document aside and said to the lawyer, "Just like my brother, donate it."
"You're donating it as well?" The lawyer was astonished; Oliver, the older brother, had signed an estate donation agreement just an hour before, and now Arthur, the younger brother, wanted to donate as well?
The lawyer grasped Oliver's reluctance to accept. Henry had always shown disdain for his sons from his first marriage, favoring Arthur over Oliver. It appeared that Henry deliberately provoked Oliver by leaving him only a small portion of the estate, while dividing the majority between Edwin and Arthur.
If anything happened to Edwin, Henry's contingency plan was for Arthur to own Edwin's share.
One of the reasons Henry did this was to provoke animosity between the brothers with his unfair distribution, hoping it would turn them against each other.
Even if they didn't become enemies, at least it would create conflict between them.
But what happened?
These two brothers, without a second thought, decided to donate the entire fortune.
The entire sum of money, all to be donated?
