Chapter 993 Jovan Watkins, on the Cruise Ship
Even though he noticed the man in front of him eyeing Jane, Anthony did not get angry because he had taken in Jane's sly expression.
Jane feigned innocence, as if she had discerned the meaning behind his angry demeanor, and said, "I don't quite understand what you mean."
Anthony obligingly translated the words into English for Jane.
The Gormany man completely disbelieved Jane's nonsense. "Ms. Watkins, I remember your linguistic talents are excellent , you are proficient in many languages, and your Gorman is quite good."
Anthony continued to translate the Gormany man's words into English for Jane, even though he knew full well that Jane understood everything.
Five years ago, Anthony had accompanied Jane in high school to Moon City for a competition in which Jane had used various technical terms fluently. How could she possibly not know Gorman?
"I used to, but as you know, I'm no longer the young lady of the Watkins family. For the past three years, I've only had the chance to speak English. So I've forgotten other languages." Jane continued to lie with a straight face and a convincing tone.
The Gormany man was dumbfounded after hearing Anthony's translation.
He clearly did not believe Jane's excuse but had no way to refute her. Jane claimed she had forgotten, and her reasoning was very convincing. The Gormany man could do nothing.
Moreover, Jane specifically mentioned that she was no longer the young lady of the Watkins family, subtly hinting to the Gormany man that even without the Watkins family, she still despised men like him.
'Isn't he just trying to take advantage of my current fallen status?' Jane thought.
In the past, Jane would never have tolerated such a lecherous married man flaunting himself before her.
The Gormany man wanted to say something more but suddenly met Anthony's gaze.
Anthony's eyes seemed indifferent, but they were actually filled with warning and danger.
Anyone with discerning eyes could see that Anthony was indulging Jane and protecting her.
He allowed Jane to do whatever she wanted, even if it meant playing people like puppets. Anthony was always willing to clean up any mess she made.
The Gormany man left awkwardly. After a while, another man approached, inquiring about Oliver. Anthony did not reveal much, stating that he was unaware.
"I heard Ms. Watkins and Mrs. Windsor are close friends?"
The speaker was a female companion brought by the man, who clearly seemed to be prepared, speaking in native English, not particularly fluent but accurate in her choice of words.
"Yes," Jane replied in English.
"Then, I wonder if Ms. Watkins has time to introduce me to Mrs. Windsor? I am a devoted fan of hers."
No fan would call Natalie "Mrs. Windsor". Most people in the industry referred to her as Natalie, and fans called her Goddess or Natalie.
This woman clearly wanted to use Natalie to get close to Oliver.
Who didn't know that Oliver adored his wife to the extreme?
"Natalie is about to give birth and will need to rest afterwards. She probably won't have time for guests," Jane declined politely.
"That's perfect. I have a priceless jade amulet here, which could be a gift for the baby," the female companion persisted.
Jane smiled and said nothing more, thinking, 'You don't even know her, but you have the nerve to meet her child on the first encounter? How shameless can you be?'
The female companion looked helplessly at the man she was holding onto.
After a while, the two of them left.
Anthony watched Jane silently. She was truly adept at such occasions. No matter who she encountered or what questions arose, she could control the situation with ease.
If Jane wished, even her refusal would leave people unable to get angry or feel that she was impolite.
"Why haven't I seen anyone from the Richardson family? Didn't they come?" Jane, completely oblivious to how Anthony was looking at her, was focused solely on finding any trace of Jovan after dealing with many people with ulterior motives.
"Ms. Watkins, I want to make a deal with you." A well-dressed and strikingly beautiful woman of mixed heritage approached, wearing a large diamond on her index finger.
This woman was much more direct. "I also want to meet Miss Watson. As a reward, I can give you a piece of information that will be valuable to you."
"Is your information worth that much?" Jane, seeing her confidence, felt a bit intrigued.
The mixed-race woman glanced flirtatiously at Anthony but said, "Ms. Watkins, this information, I only sell to you."
The implication was clear that Anthony should step aside.
Anthony's eyes instantly became sharp. He stared at the mixed-race woman with caution.
"Mr. Clark, rest assured, I just want to make money, but not make enemies with you. I won't harm your sweetheart," the mixed-race woman said.
Anthony knew this person, a female CEO who had climbed the Forbes wealth list before the age of forty.
She loved money but had principles and wouldn't stoop to underhanded tactics. The business world was complicated. She was religious, so she avoided unethical acts for fear she wouldn't go to heaven after death.
Jane felt a moment of discomfort hearing this term, sweetheart.
"Alright, we'll talk privately." Jane released Anthony's arm and moved a few steps away, but still within Anthony's reach so that if anything happened, Anthony could pull her back immediately.
"Jovan Watkins," the mixed-race woman paused, capturing the shock in Jane's eyes. She continued with satisfaction, "might be on this cruise ship."
There was music at the ball. Even though Anthony had keen hearing, he couldn't hear what the mixed-race woman was whispering in Jane's ear.
But Anthony clearly saw Jane's expression change, and even after she returned to his side, she still seemed lost in thought.
"Ms. Watkins, may I ask when it would be convenient for me to meet Miss Watson?" For those with high emotional intelligence, an opportunity to meet was a chance to pave the way for the future.
"I'll call her. When you go to Paykston, you can contact the Rosewood Estate or her studio directly to make an appointment." Jane wouldn't casually give out Natalie's private contact information, but this method of introduction was already quite good for her.
"That works." The mixed-race woman was very satisfied with this result. She gave Anthony a meaningful look and, after a moment, smiled, "Mr. Clark, Ms. Watkins is so outstanding. Such a woman will always have someone to protect her. Of course, the person I'm talking about is not you."
Anthony squinted his eyes. 'Is she implying I would lose Jane? Nonsense!' he thought.
After the mixed-race woman left, Anthony wrapped his arm around Jane's waist and asked, "What did she say to you?"
"I..."
Jane's next words "My brother might be on the ship" were interrupted by a low murmur from the crowd. "It's joker!"
Jane's heart skipped a beat, and she grabbed Anthony's hand. "Did you hear someone say joker?"
What Jane could hear, Anthony could naturally hear as well.
Anthony cautiously scanned the area, trying to determine if this was a trap or if Jovan was really on the ship.
Anthony had suspected that Jovan might be on this cruise for the Richardson family, but if Jovan was here, he should have come to see Jane first, not remain unseen until now.
At that moment, Jane suddenly saw a man standing in the shadows quickly leave the banquet hall through a side door.
That figure looked exactly like Jovan.
