Chapter 881 Last Life as Love Rivals
"What if Natalie doesn't want to come back?" Caleb's face turned pale. "When Natalie had a baby, she didn't accept any of the gifts we sent. Isn't it obvious that she doesn't want any relationship with us? Keeping Susan here can still win over Leonard."
Although Leonard was Ashford's adopted son, he was currently in charge of Ashford with exceptional skills, making him a rare talent in this generation.
In Caleb's view, it was more reliable to choose Susan rather than waiting for Natalie to soften her heart and return to the Hastings family in ten or twenty years.
Moreover, Natalie was cold and sarcastic towards him, while Susan was respectful and filial. The contrast was clear, and Caleb decided to choose Susan.
After hearing Caleb's words, James's resentment towards Natalie diminished significantly.
The fact that Leonard didn't propose a divorce after Susan went to prison indicated that he still liked Susan. Indeed, although Natalie and Oliver were good, neither of them was as obedient as Susan, nor as effective in winning over Leonard.
"Susan, are you done washing up?" Helen knocked on Susan's door when she hadn't come out of the bathroom yet.
"I'll be ready soon, Helen!" Susan deleted all records related to the overseas call before getting dressed.
"Why did it take you so long?" Helen asked with concern.
Helen had a soft spot for Susan because of the grievances she suffered from Natalie. She believed that Susan resembled her and because Susan didn't like Emma, who had passed away.
In Helen's eyes, it was destined for Susan to become her daughter. As for Natalie not recognizing her as a mother, she could just treat it as if she had never given birth to Natalie.
"Susan, don't worry." Helen found Susan more pleasing the more she looked at her, recalling the scenes of Susan being affectionate towards her over the past decade, which she cherished.
"Susan, you don't have to leave this time. Caleb has already made the decision for you to come back. Leave the rest to the men of the Hastings family, and you can relax."
"Thank you, Helen! You're the best to me! I love you!"
In general, babies learn to sit at around six months old. Nathan, however, was exceptional and could sit steadily at just over five months old.
One evening, when Natalie came out of the study and video conference, she found Nathan was sitting on a mat, staring at Oliver. Oliver sat on the sofa about a meter away from Nathan, engrossed in his tablet checking emails, holding Nathan's favorite ball rattle toy in his left hand, completely ignoring his son.
He seemingly said, "If you have the guts, come and take it. I'm not moving from here. If you can't get it, it's your problem."
Nathan was only five months old! He only could kick and punch in place, but Oliver was actually trying to tempt him to come over to get the toy!
He was furious!
In his anger, Nathan sat up and glared at Oliver with wide eyes.
When Natalie came out and saw this scene, she exclaimed, "Nathan can sit up!"
Nathan saw his mother as if she were a reinforcement, waving his little arms towards Oliver and shouting, seemingly saying, "Natalie, hit Oliver!"
Nathan's arm movements had no threatening power at all, but instead, caused his chubby little body to lose balance and fall onto the mat.
Nathan, at five months old, was visibly confused.
Natalie laughed and ran over to pick up Nathan, who immediately hugged her with both arms, looking pitiful.
"You are still too young to sit up, honey." Natalie kissed Nathan's chubby cheek and noticed his change in mood. "What's wrong, Nathan? Upset that Oliver isn't playing with you?"
His little arms started swinging towards Oliver again.
"Oliver!" Natalie said, "Why are you taking Nathan's toy? This is Nathan's favorite toy."
Oliver didn't accept the accusation, lifted the toy in his hand, and said, "I'm just training Nathan."
"Training what? His voice?" Natalie retorted. "Tell Nathan that something he holds doesn't mean it belongs to him." Oliver set the toy aside, refusing to give it to Nathan.
Oliver said to Nathan, "For example, the person you're holding now belongs to me, not you."
Nathan couldn't understand what Oliver was talking about at all. He hugged Natalie with both arms, burying his little face in her embrace.
Oliver raised an eyebrow. "Nathan, I'm talking to you. Aren't you listening?"
Nathan simply couldn't understand Oliver's words!
"Oliver, you're being childish," Natalie couldn't help but complain, "And Nathan is too young to understand. Isn't that right, Nathan?"
Every action Nathan took towards Natalie was gentle, in stark contrast to his interactions with Oliver.
Natalie looked at Nathan and then at Oliver. "Oliver, do you and Nathan have some unresolved issues from a past life?"
Oliver chuckled coldly.
“It seemed that probably there were not unresolved issues but they may be love rivals.” He thought.
Although Oliver always seemed dissatisfied with Nathan, Natalie knew that the reality was different.
