Chapter 392 Poor Skills
Seemingly out of nowhere, Natalie asked, “Have you never had a serious girlfriend before?”
Arthur's expression soured immediately. In his mind, the image of a gentle and serene girl surfaced. Indeed, he had never had a serious girlfriend before. The person he had spent several years searching for could hardly be called his girlfriend.
Natalie, indifferent to Arthur's thoughts, said, "In any case, your provocation skills are terrible. Perhaps it might have worked six months ago.”
Arthur only scoffed lightly with a smile on his face. Those unfamiliar with him would assume he was not upset.
"Do you know Jane?" Natalie asked, seating herself on the sofa nearby without showing any deference to Arthur.
"Your friend, the former top socialite? How can I not know her?” Arthur, who had heard a bit about Natalie’s past while he was abroad, said.
If Arthur had paid more attention to Flora earlier, showing her genuine sincerity, he would have known that Flora and Jane were friends. Instead, he had mockingly referred to Jane as the former top socialite.
Suddenly, Natalie lost the desire to continue their conversation. After a moment, she said, “By the way, this painting is valued at four million dollars, and I expect you to reimburse me in full. You and your brother may share the same blood, but we don’t."
Then, Natalie looked up to the second floor and asked, "Do you have any objections?"
Oliver emerged seemingly from thin air, standing on the stairs. “My wife has the final say.”
Arthur was stunned that his brother agreed with Natalie. In the past, even when he had smashed a car, his brother did not say anything. Not only that, but his brother replaced it with a new one.
"Very well, the expense will be charged to the company," Arthur declared, grabbing his coat and heading toward the door. He addressed Oliver, saying, "Just you wait. I’m going to ruin the Windsor group that you handed to me."
Liam had grown accustomed to the dynamic between the two brothers. This was also a form of compromise, a stark contrast to their teenage years when confrontations were resolved through physical fights.
Liam bid Arthur farewell, feeling reassured.
Oliver gestured for Natalie to come over.
"It seems like you and your brother don’t have a good relationship?” Natalie asked, puzzled.
She had previously heard that Oliver had raised Arthur single-handedly, acting both as a brother and a father, which led her to believe they should have a good relationship. However, the current situation seemed to suggest the contrary.
Oliver saw nothing unusual about his relationship with his younger brother. “It’s not that. I think he’s just unwilling to take over the company.”
‘You ‘think’?’
Natalie was aware that Oliver had entrusted Arthur with the Windsor Group. She asked, "Aren’t you concerned that he might actually ruin the Windsor Group?"
Based on their recent interactions, it was clear to Natalie that Arthur had the potential to ruin the Windsor Group within a year.
"Let him be. The Windsor Group was always intended for him," Oliver stated as he led Natalie upstairs, adding, "Even if it is rubbish, one should throw it away on their own."
Natalie's lips twitched in amusement. "Your family's ‘rubbish’ is quite valuable..."
After a moment, she asked, “Where did you go before?”
Oliver glanced at Natalie before averting his gaze. "I went to find someone."
"Who was it?"
Oliver hummed vaguely as his heart skipped a beat. He could not let Natalie know. He had never told anything about Arthur and Flora's situation. Objectively, he bore some responsibility for the events that transpired between Flora and Arthur. If it was not possible to keep it a secret indefinitely, he hoped to at least conceal it for the time being.
…
After Susan ‘rescued’ Natalie, they exchanged numbers.
Natalie did not expect Susan would reach out to her, given they had little to say to each other.
Unexpectedly, Susan contacted her and sent her an invitation to her birthday party.
Natalie planned to decline politely and merely send a gift, but Jane contacted her before she could do so.
“Did you accept Susan’s invitation to her birthday party?” Jane asked immediately.
Natalie was confused. “No, she just sent me an invitation. I was planning to refuse.”
Jane scoffed, "That manipulative woman!"
Jane continued to say, “Natalie, you can’t refuse her now. Everyone in our social circle is under the impression that you’ll be attending Susan's birthday party."
"What?" Natalie responded in surprise.
"It’s likely Susan herself who spread the news that you would be attending her party. The event is scheduled for the day after tomorrow, and most guests received their invitations half a month ago. You have only just received yours. There’s no time for you to even tailor a dress."
Susan’s birthday party would be held in Tycoon City, which was her home court. If Natalie attended, she knew that she would only be greeted with sneers and insinuations regarding her past. However, if she chose not to attend, she was certain that rumors suggesting she was arrogant, ungrateful, or afraid of Susan would circulate."
Natalie glanced at the invitation and smiled slightly before she replied with a hint of iciness, “Very well, I shall attend then. on the coffee table and smiled slightly, her voice carrying a touch of resolve.
…
Apart from sending an invitation to Oliver, Susan also sent one to Oliver.
Upon his return, Oliver asked, "You agreed to attend Susan’s party?"
"How did you know about it?" Natalie asked, not answering his question.
"Wyatt informed me," he answered.
Today, Isaac and Wyatt had visited to discuss business matters with Oliver.
During their conversation, Oliver revealed that he had received an invitation two weeks prior and had already declined Susan's invitation and asked Jamie to select an appropriate gift to be sent out.
Natalie took a look at Oliver’s invitation and could not help but sneer. Her own invitation was printed with platinum fonts, whereas Oliver's featured handwritten text in an elegant font, unmistakably penned by Susan herself.
‘Hmm, let's just go and see what she’s planning,’ Natalie thought to herself, curious.
Oliver looked at Natalie silently.
“What’s wrong?” Natalie asked.
"Her birthday is on the 19th, and yours is on the 17th," Oliver replied, sitting down on the sofa. He looked slightly unhappy.
Natalie had completely overlooked her own birthday. It had been two or three years since she last celebrated it. While she was with the Watson family, her birthday was never celebrated, nor was she permitted to do so. However, Lucas would save up money to buy food and a small cake. He would sing her a birthday song and ensure she had a birthday cake, as any young girl deserved.
