Chapter510
"Hey!" the secretary whispered, her eyes sparkling with the excitement of gossip as she leaned closer, "I heard that Mr. Windsor and his wife are divorced. Is it true?"
"Where did you hear that?" Jamie asked, his voice filled with panic.
Jamie was aware of the situation between Oliver and Natalie, including the signed divorce papers at Rosewood Estate, solely because of his frequent visits. Not even Charles knew; it was a secret that had been well kept. How could anyone else be privy to this information?
"I just... heard it," the secretary said, gulping nervously as she realized she might have revealed information that could jeopardize his employment, "Jamie, please don’t tell Mr. Windsor about this. I’m not the only one who’s heard about this."
"Are you saying others know about it as well? Who else?” Jamie asked, clearly anxious.
“Uh…”
“Hurry up and tell me!”
“It seems like many people know about it…” the secretary said, looking timid, "Because of my role in the company, I’m in several group chats with socialites. Rumors have been circulating there, and I assumed it was common knowledge. Even some employees in the company have heard of it. Jamie, are we in trouble?"
"It should be fine," Jamie said, offering the secretary a comforting pat on the shoulder, despite being worried himself.
After all, Oliver was likely still under the impression that his divorce from Natalie was a secret, unaware that the divorce had been made public.
…
A car arrived at the grand estate where the evening gala was being hosted.
Emily helped Natalie out of the car, saying, "I haven’t informed Casey about your situation with Oliver, so I didn’t invite her to accompany you tonight. It would be best to avoid any potential for her losing her composure."
This meant that Natalie was essentially on her own for the evening.
"Thank you, Emily," Natalie replied.
"Just be careful. Mingle with the key guests and then feel free to find a more secluded place. Don’t hesitate to call me if you need help."
As a model and an agent, their social obligations and networking were distinct from one another.
After talking to Emily, Natalie posed for a photograph at the reception, and then they proceeded in different directions.
The auction segment passed swiftly. Although there were only a few items, their value was extraordinary: limited edition pieces and exclusive designs from top fashion designers, representing truly priceless treasures.
This auction served merely as an introduction to the main attraction of the evening: the social gathering that ensued, allowing attendees the opportunity to interact with one another.
Holding a glass of champagne, Natalie moved through the room with flawless elegance, exchanging brief greetings with those she knew, yet never staying too long with anyone.
She sensed something was amiss in the way people looked at her, detecting a shift in their demeanor, which now seemed somewhat cooler than usual. Her feelings were soon validated.
She encountered a regional director of a prominent luxury brand. Prior to her injury and the pause in her career, there had been discussions about a potential collaboration facilitated by Emily.
