Chapter 921 He is Happy

It was a week later when Oliver returned to Paykston.

Paykston was already showing signs of early spring chill.

Natalie was holding Nathan at the arrival gate, waiting for someone. From a distance, she saw a tall figure coming out, wearing a gray wool coat. A small suitcase was carried by a bodyguard, and he held a gift bag in his left hand, while his right hand was empty.

He looked noble and composed, very eye-catching.

Among the crowd, Oliver was the most dazzling one.

"Nathan, Daddy's back!" Natalie held Nathan with one hand, pointing out Oliver's position to him while waving at Oliver.

Nathan, with his black hair, looked around but couldn't spot Oliver.

"Daddy's getting closer! Aren't you happy to see me? You have missed me, haven’t you?"

When Oliver got closer, Nathan widened his eyes and called out to Oliver.

Oliver, with his keen hearing, caught Natalie’s words and saw his reaction. With a blank expression, he raised an eyebrow at Natalie. He thought, ‘Is this what you call thinking about me?’

The bond between Oliver and Nathan seemed irreparable.

Oliver pinched Nathan's cheek. Without a word, Oliver took Nathan into his arms with one hand, giving him a sideways glance. "What are you yelling about? How old are you? Do you have any manners?"

Natalie was speechless. "He's only six months old."

Oliver pretended not to hear, prompting a small protest from Nathan.

"Mr. Windsor and Mrs. Windsor, the car is at exit B," the bodyguard reminded them timely.

With such a good-looking family and Nathan with his little black hair, many people were sneaking glances at them. Soon, they might be recognized!

It was not that they couldn't be recognized. After all, they weren't celebrities. Safety was still a concern, especially since Susan hadn't been found yet.

Natalie reached out to take Nathan, but Oliver sidestepped to avoid her movement. He raised his left hand to hand the gift bag to Natalie. "You take this."

"What's this?" Natalie asked as she took it.

"Check it in the car." Oliver, now with his left hand free, held Natalie's hand and led her towards exit B.

Nathan tilted his head to look at his parents' hands. Because he couldn't see them, he then turned to look behind Oliver.

He saw it!

Oliver was holding Natalie's hand!

Nathan started waving his little fists, trying to reach Natalie's hand.

He wanted to hold Natalie's hand too!

"What's wrong, Nathan?"

Just as Natalie was about to check on Nathan, Oliver said first, "He's happy."

Nathan thought, ‘Do you think I can't understand or speak, so you just brush me off!’

Natalie believed Oliver, smiling. "Really! I told you Nathan missed me! Right, Nathan?"

Nathan thought, ‘That's nonsense!’

Once in the car, Natalie opened the gift bag Oliver had handed her.

As soon as she opened it, a fragrant aroma of food wafted out.

"Chocolate cake!" Natalie exclaimed in surprise, picking up a piece and putting it in her mouth.

Sweet but not greasy, delicate and fragrant, it was so delicious that Natalie squinted her eyes in delight.

"Is it good?" Oliver looked at Natalie, a smile in his eyes.

"Delicious!" Natalie exclaimed.

Oliver chuckled. "Samuel said you loved this chocolate cake when you were little. Your grandmother Emma even went to learn the recipe from the shop owner, but she couldn't master it, so you didn't like it."

Natalie blinked. ‘Really?’ She thought.

Was she that ungrateful as a child? Emma had specially learned to make it for her, and she didn't appreciate it, not eating it.

Oliver was also surprised when he heard this. Samuel said that Natalie was far less sensible as a child than she is now. She was well-behaved and proper in public, but a spoiled little girl at heart.

Seeing Natalie eating, Nathan who sat in his baby seat started kicking his legs, his chubby little arms reaching for the chocolate cake in Natalie's hand.

"Nathan can't eat this yet. He can have it when he's older." Nathan had started on solid foods, but they were all bland and mashed-up foods. Something as rich as chocolate cake was off-limits for him.

Natalie saw how much Nathan was craving it. His little eyes under his black hair stared intently at the chocolate cake in her hand, almost drooling.

"Do you want to eat it, Nathan?" Natalie shook the chocolate cake in her hand.

Nathan's little eyes followed the cake back and forth.

Natalie couldn't help but laugh, holding the cake closer to Nathan.

"How about a sniff for Nathan?"

After Nathan sniffed it, Natalie pulled it back and ate it herself.

Nathan didn't react immediately, staring blankly at Natalie's mouth, his little lips quivering as if he was about to cry.

Oliver chuckled, his chest vibrating with laughter.

His Natalie had this playful side too.

"Is it that good?" Oliver asked with a smile.

"Yes!" Natalie nodded without hesitation.

"Let me try."

Just as Natalie picked up another piece of chocolate cake, Oliver suddenly leaned in. With his large hand cupping the back of her head, he kissed her.

He swept away the remaining crumbs of chocolate cake from her lips and the corners of her mouth.

"Just okay," Oliver said seriously after tasting it. "Not as good as you."

Lucas had entered the formal chemotherapy phase. The current plan was to undergo chemotherapy first. Once a bone marrow match was found, he needed to prepare his body, making a two-pronged approach.

The chemotherapy results were surprisingly good, much better than expected.

Natalie finally breathed a sigh of relief and moved back from the five-star hotel near the hospital to the Rosewood Estate.

Oliver had not yet made a public statement regarding Susan. With Lucas's statement, the attention on the matter waned.

Collin, following Natalie's instructions, successfully made a large-scale low-cost stock acquisition, conducting a simple cleanup of the major shareholders. Unfortunately, a few cunning individuals reacted quickly and regretted selling their stocks at the last moment.

That afternoon, after finishing a talk show, Natalie walked out of the studio to find Lilian standing outside, crying.

Natalie sank her heart. Before she could ask what happened, Lilian sobbed. "Natalie, Lucas' condition has worsened."

By the time Natalie arrived at the hospital, Lucas was already in the operating room.

The red light outside the operating room stayed on all night.

The late winter and early spring nights were still cold. Outside the operating room, it was silent, with only the occasional sound of nurses making their rounds in the distance.

Natalie stood outside the operating room. No one dared to ask her to rest, not even the usually assertive Oliver. He took off his coat and draped it over Natalie's shoulders, holding her hand tightly.

Dawn broke.

The light outside the operating room finally went out.

The attending doctor was the first to come out, looking exhausted from the long surgery.

"Doctor, how is my brother?" Natalie asked anxiously, looking at the doctor as if awaiting a verdict.

The doctor was grim and he asked seriously, "Can you still find the bone marrow you mentioned earlier? Given the patient's current condition, if we continue with chemotherapy, he only has a survival rate of less than twenty percent."

Natalie staggered, her face turning pale.

Oliver and Samuel had not stopped searching for Susan, but to no avail. Susan seemed to have vanished into thin air.

The people who took Susan never contacted Natalie to use her bone marrow as leverage, nor did they make Susan reappear. This situation led them to suspect that Susan was likely already dead.

Lucas was transferred from the general ward back to the ICU. His condition was worse than the last time. His hair had mostly fallen out from the prolonged chemotherapy. His body had become much thinner and he lay on the bed lifelessly with tubes inserted all over his body.

Lilian leaned against the narrow transparent glass outside the ICU, her eyes filled with tears as she stared inside.

Natalie ached her heart but couldn't do anything to help.

"It's here! The bone marrow is here!" Suddenly, the attending doctor's joyful voice rang out.
Married to an Ugly Husband? No!
