Chapter 1168 The Wedding
Jane stared at Anthony, confused about why he was laughing.
People around them started noticing and exchanged curious glances, whispering.
"Didn't Jane and Anthony break up? How are they back together?"
"Back together? Would Jovan be okay with that? I heard Anthony got into a fight near the Watkins mansion recently."
"And Daniel was trying to set his granddaughter up with Mr. Watkins. This could get messy."
"Who knows what's up with Jane and Anthony? They've been on and off for years."
"Mr. Clark, Ms. Watkins," a woman's voice interrupted.
Jane turned. "Ms. Griffin."
It was Sierra, who had consulted Anthony's company for her thesis.
Jane glanced at Anthony, her look saying, "Here she comes."
Anthony looked helpless, thinking she'd be jealous, but she was just amused.
"Ms. Watkins, Mr. Clark, what's going on?" Sierra asked, hinting at something.
Jane guessed Sierra had heard rumors and was eager to know the truth.
"Just chatting," Jane said with a smile.
Anthony wasn't satisfied and added, "Chatting about marriage."
"Marriage?" Sierra was shocked, staring at them in disbelief.
Jane was equally stunned. 'Marriage? Since when?'
Anthony caught Jane's questioning look and smoothly said, "But I'm still pursuing her, so no rush."
Jane thought Anthony meant her, but marriage? They hadn't discussed that.
Sierra looked hurt, "I'm sorry, Ms. Watkins. I didn't know you and Mr. Clark were at this stage. I didn't mean to..."
Tears welled up in Sierra's eyes, and she ran off, feeling she had intruded.
"Anthony, when did we talk about marriage?!" Jane demanded.
Anthony, playing innocent, said, "If I don't say that, how can I fend off those women who want to marry me?"
Jane was surprised. She never noticed Anthony's narcissistic side before.
Anthony gently tucked a stray hair behind Jane's ear.
He continued, "What if you hear those rumors and get jealous? If I haven't won you over yet, you might leave. That would be terrible for me."
Anthony's words meant that no matter how many women were introduced to him, his heart was always with Jane. He treated Sierra this way to prevent Jane from getting jealous and leaving.
Once Sierra spread the word, everyone would know Jane was the only one for Anthony.
Jane blinked, overwhelmed by Anthony's sudden honesty.
"You weren't like this before," she muttered.
Anthony was curious, "What was I like before?"
Jane counted on her fingers, "Cold, bad-tempered, mean to me, and never said anything nice."
She wondered why she liked him before. Even if he was handsome and capable, his temper was like a rock—cold and hard.
"Sorry," Anthony said seriously.
Jane was surprised. She didn't expect an apology.
She didn't bring it up to make him apologize.
"Nothing to apologize for. It's all in the past," Jane said.
Anthony agreed, "Yes, you're right."
They would start over, and he would make it up to her properly.
