Chapter 1028 Can't Sleep Alone
The first night at the mansion ended on a sour note.
Jane knew she had trouble sleeping in unfamiliar beds, so she had bought some sleep-inducing incense in advance. She managed to sleep reasonably well that night.
Anthony spent the entire night in his wheelchair, unable to sleep, smoking one cigarette after cigarette.
The next day, Jane got up quite early because there was a high-quality art exhibition in Fae City that she was interested in.
The people attending this gathering were all from the same social circle, with each family being represented by socialites and heirs. The security had been intensified compared to the past to ensure that even if someone wanted to harm Jane, they wouldn't risk offending so many families by making a move in such a setting.
Anthony, who had not slept all night, appeared early in the first-floor of living room. Before Jane got up, he had already confirmed the breakfast menu with the housekeeper.
The atmosphere between Jane and Anthony had been tense the previous night, but now they both chose to reconcile, at least on the surface.
"Didn't sleep well?" Jane could clearly see the bluish tint under Anthony's eyes and the slight redness around the edges of his white eyeballs. His face also showed subtle signs of fatigue.
Anthony looked at Jane for two seconds, as if hesitating about what to say.
After a moment, he said, "Yes, I couldn't sleep alone."
Jane suspected Anthony was hinting at something or playing petty tricks with her. But she had no evidence.
"Couldn't sleep?"
"Yes."
Jane made a cup of coffee for Anthony, who couldn't get up easily, and placed it in front of him. She said, "You couldn't sleep, probably because you're not tired enough."
Jane said, "If you have a few more sleepless nights, you'll be able to sleep."
Not long after breakfast, the doorbell rang.
Jane went to open the door, and after a while, Anthony saw a man and a woman following Jane inside.
"Didn't you want to take a bath? I hired caregivers for you. You can choose between a male or a female one," Jane said thoughtfully.
as Anthony looked at the two people, his already bad mood worsened.
The man seemed normal, around thirty, with an average appearance. However, he wore an earring in his left ear and had a pink phone case, making it hard to discern his sexual orientation.
The woman looked to be about twenty-five or twenty-six, with a delicate and pretty appearance. However, her eyes were not very pleasant, as they had been glued to Anthony since she entered, as if she couldn't wait to strip him of his clothes.
"Jane!" Anthony called Jane's name. She knew he was angry and said, "Did you hire these two to bathe me or to accompany me in the bath?"
"To bathe" and "to accompany" had completely different meanings.
Jane hadn't thought that far. Her initial intention was just to find two well-reviewed caregivers of similar age, because she wanted to try to avoid communication issues .
It turned out that what people think about was what they see.
Anthony had misunderstood.
Jane didn't argue and curiously asked Anthony, "Given your current physical condition, do you think you can handle them accompanying you in the bath?"
Anthony was so angry that he didn't even want to call Jane by her name. His cold laugh carried a strong sense of oppression. "Why don't you try?"
Jane was never afraid of Anthony. Otherwise, she wouldn't have shamelessly pursued this perpetually cold-faced bodyguard in her youth.
Jane shrugged. "No thanks, I'm not interested."
When Anthony turned to the caregivers, whose eyes were gleaming with excitement, he felt his eyes seemed to be pricked by something. He impatiently waved them away. "Get out! Now!"
The two caregivers looked at each other and at first thought the other was a competitor. Now, they were in the same boat.
For a moment, they were not only at a loss but also reluctant to leave.
So they both looked at Jane, hoping she would let them stay.
"Jane, do you believe I'll kill you in bed?" Anthony gritted his teeth.
Jane blinked, slightly intimidated.
"You can leave now. You'll be paid as agreed," Jane said, dismissing the caregivers. She then saw Anthony drive his wheelchair upstairs, his back radiating anger.
'I hired caregivers for him, but he was still unhappy,' Jane thought.
When Jane initially hired them, she hadn't expected that two people looked at Anthony with strong desire .
Jane didn't mind such caregivers appearing. First, Anthony wasn't her boyfriend. Second, even if Anthony were her boyfriend, it would be normal for people with ulterior motives to be interested in him. Jane could see how Anthony would handle such people.
After tidying up, Jane was ready to leave, but Anthony hadn't come out of his room yet.
Jane knocked on Anthony's door and said through the door, "I have to go out. If you need anything, call me. Don't take a bath. If your wound doesn't heal, you'll suffer. I really hope you get well soon."
Behind the door, Anthony clenched his teeth, restraining the urge to come out and undress Jane to show her what he was capable of in his current state.
After all, the one exerting effort wasn't necessarily the man. But he needed to consider Jane's wishes.
Jane left with peace of mind because she knew Anthony well enough. Once she said "Get well soon, so you can regain your abilities," Anthony wouldn't take a bath without any concern.
No man would risk his sexual performance.
If Anthony really wanted to bathe, he could ask the hidden bodyguards outside the mansion for help. These men had been with Anthony for years, and he wouldn't feel uncomfortable undressing in front of them.
Anthony specifically asked Jane for help out of his selfish motives.
The art exhibition was a global tour of portrait-themed oil paintings, featuring works by emerging artists from the past twenty years. Compared to the works of older masters, these pieces might not be as technically excellent, but their creativity and styles were more diverse, making them suitable for a leisurely visit.
After the exhibition, all the works would be sold, with the proceeds going to charity.
"Isn't that Jane Watkins?"
Jane was halfway through the exhibition when she heard a voice behind her.
She turned around to see two familiar-looking young women, one carrying a Gucci bag and the other carrying an LV ONTHEGO. The one with the Gucci bag was the one who had spoken.
The woman with the LV bag laughed, "It's indeed her!. How could someone who was so disreputable get into this exhibition?"
The woman with the Gucci bag linked arms with her companion and corrected her, "Jane is not just disreputable. She's also a homewrecker. Remember?"
