Chapter 1153 Injured
"I didn't lose her," Anthony said. "She dumped me."
Nolan laughed out loud, not caring they were in public, and said, "No wonder she's Jovan's favorite!"
"What about the collaboration I mentioned? Have you thought about it?" Anthony asked, ignoring Nolan's teasing.
Nolan replied, "I was curious why you suddenly wanted to team up. This deal clearly puts you at a disadvantage. So, you want to keep an eye on Jane."
Nolan had a lot of pull in the area.
Anthony didn't respond, basically confirming Nolan's guess.
The documentary crew was split into two teams: one to film the Gobi Desert and salt lakes and the other to film the desert and oases.
Jane was in the latter group.
Lighting is crucial in any shoot. Light is the best retoucher.
Some people started prepping as soon as they set out: models getting their makeup done, photographers scouting locations, and planning the best shots. They waited until four or five in the afternoon, when the light was perfect, to start shooting.
The desert was wild and beautiful, but the environment was harsh. By the end of the day, everyone was covered in dust from head to toe.
It got dark late here, and by the time they finished shooting the sunset and got back to the hotel, it was already past nine in the evening.
Having wrapped up the day's shoot, everyone breathed a sigh of relief.
"By the end of the day, we looked like beggars."
"We may look like beggars, but look at Jane—she's still gorgeous!"
"Seriously, Jane is stunning. If she entered the entertainment industry, she could easily make a living just on her looks!"
"Jane isn't just about looks. She's got countless talents. Those in the entertainment industry who try so hard to create personas can't compare to her. Plus, she's the youngest among us, and her photography skills are on par with ours!"
Everyone chatted away, then started talking about having a good dinner.
"You guys go ahead. I'm going to take a shower first," Jane said. She couldn't stand the sand and sweat any longer and headed back to her room.
Halfway through her shower, Jane was interrupted by an urgent knocking on the door.
The suite had good soundproofing, and to communicate with the outside, she needed to use the room's intercom. Jane quickly rinsed off the soap, put on a bathrobe, and hurried out of the bathroom.
It was Lester.
"Jane, check yourself for any bites or stings from snakes, insects, or rodents!" Lester said anxiously.
Jane realized something was wrong. "What happened?"
"There's been an incident with another team; someone got stung by a scorpion and is now unconscious!" Lester answered.
"Wait a minute. I'll change clothes!" Jane said.
Jane quickly changed and had Lester take her to the scene.
The injured person was a male assistant, lying in a lounge on the hotel's first floor. Several team doctors surrounded him, looking worried.
"What's the situation now?" Jane asked someone nearby.
"He's been poisoned. The doctors have done emergency treatment, but they say he needs to be taken to a big hospital," the person sighed. "The poison might paralyze his nerves."
Neurotoxic venom was a serious threat to his body.
Medical resources were scarce in this remote desert. The scorpion that stung him was rare, and they couldn't even identify the venom type.
Everyone involved in the documentary had signed contracts and was aware of potential accidents. Filming in remote areas naturally came with risks.
Some were here for money, some for fame, but most were driven by passion and dedication to their careers.
Like Jane, who, despite being delicate, would go to harsh places to capture the perfect shot.
"What's the plan now?" Jane asked the person in charge.
"We're waiting for a car," he replied.
"A car to take him to the hospital?" Jane frowned.
The nearest decent hospital was neighboring, almost a day's drive away. If the venom was potent, he might not survive the trip.
"We have no choice; there's no airport nearby." Flying would be faster, but planes weren't always available.
'Wait, a plane!' A glimmer of hope sparked in Jane's mind.
"Hold on!" Jane said.
Without thinking, Jane called Anthony.
The call connected quickly.
"Anthony, are you still in the desert area?" Jane asked directly.
Her tone was serious, and Anthony, knowing Jane well, immediately sensed something was wrong.
"Jane, what's going on?" Anthony's voice dropped several octaves.
"It's not me; it's my colleague who's injured." Jane bit her lip and asked, "Anthony, can you arrange for a helicopter?"
Jane was like that; in the face of life and death, everything else was secondary.
Jane hung up and told the person in charge, "Get ready; a helicopter will arrive in twenty minutes."
"Really?" The person in charge was overjoyed and immediately started making arrangements.
A helicopter could fly at 150 miles per hour, and with no mountains or ridges in the desert, it could fly straight to the best hospital in the state, significantly shortening travel time. This would buy precious time for the injured person.
"A helicopter? That's great!" Colleagues breathed a sigh of relief, with a few almost cheering.
"Weren't we told we couldn't get a helicopter today? How did we suddenly get one?"
"Apparently, someone from the photography team arranged it."
"It was Jane!"
"Make way! Please make way! The doctors are here!"
Suddenly, a team of people rushed in.
Bodyguards escorted the leading few and quickly made their way to the injured person. They showed their medical credentials and exchanged a few words with the team doctors before swiftly taking new emergency measures.
"That doctor! I've seen him at a medical forum in Moalia. He's very skilled! How did he end up here? The person is definitely going to be saved now!" The speaker was both surprised and delighted.
Hearing this, Jane instinctively turned to look at the doctor, but a tall figure blocked her view.
Anthony stood in front of Jane, exuding a fierce aura. His whole demeanor was tense, and his hair was slightly disheveled, as if he had rushed over.
