Chapter 439
Having been to Oliver’s office before, Natalie was not unfamiliar with the surroundings.
Oliver, allowing Natalie access to various facilities, said, "I’ll return after the meeting. Please take care of yourself until then."
He stroked her head as he spoke. Seated, the height was perfect for this gesture.
Natalie remained silent, coldly rejecting any form of interaction with him.
Oliver paused, waiting for any sign of acknowledgment or even a fleeting glance from her, but it was as if she had completely shut him out of her world. With a touch of frustration in his voice, he asked, “Where are you going to go if you leave, Natalie?”
Only then did Natalie look up. "Oliver, my life doesn’t revolve around you, nor am I reliant on you for everything."
She knew she had many places she could go.
At that moment, Oliver came to the realization that Natalie might have always been prepared for the eventuality that she might leave one day.
Marrying into the Windsor family meant a life free from worries about basic necessities, yet Natalie never indulged in the luxury it offered, nor did she abandon her own education and career aspirations. She diligently worked to complete her education early, liberating herself from academic obligations. In a remarkably short period, she empowered herself to grace some of the most prestigious stages worldwide. She had never made any direct requests to him.
Financial independence was something she achieved on her own; she lacked nothing but power and had the freedom to travel anywhere she desired. It was evident that she could live comfortably without his intervention.
…
Oliver’s decision to bring her to the company was not on a whim.
Upon entering the lounge in his office, Natalie noticed her favorite books arranged on the coffee table, an iPad, an assortment of her preferred snacks, freshly squeezed juices, and pastries from a nearby Michelin-starred restaurant.
Despite these familiar comforts, her appetite was absent, rendering everything as unappealing as wax.
The room also contained several new potted plants, which Oliver had deemed a nuisance, unsightly, and pointless. These were present solely for Natalie's sake.
Oliver’s presence permeated every corner of the office.
Natalie, becoming accustomed to navigating the wheelchair, directed it toward a side door. She inexplicably felt the urge to open it. To her surprise, it remained immovable.
The door was securely locked.
After several forceful attempts to open it, Natalie faced the reality that Oliver had indeed locked the door.
Despite her even temper, she threw the book in her hand against the door with a loud thump.
‘That jerk, Oliver!’
…
The top executives noticed that Oliver was distracted today. He was typically very focused at work, but he had been repeatedly glancing at an iPad to his left. They also noticed that he looked much more irritable and impatient today. Any prolonged discussion was quickly silenced, either with a sharp look or a cutting remark from him, creating a tense atmosphere.
A meeting scheduled to last three hours was abruptly shortened to just seventy minutes by Oliver, yet all agenda items were efficiently addressed.
After concluding the meeting, Oliver hastened back to his office, eager to be reunited with Natalie. Throughout the meeting, he had kept an eye on her through the iPad, ensuring she was safe. He usually did not use the camera, but it proved useful today.
