Chapter 998 My business with Jane Watkins is none of your concern.
Anthony and Richard had never gotten along well. From the moment they became aware of each other, they had a conflict. This was because they knew that Jovan had intended to marry Jane off to Richard, while at the same time, Jane was fervently pursuing Anthony.
From the very beginning, Richard and Anthony were in a relationship akin to rivals in love. Or rather, they were indeed rivals in love.
"Mr. Foster, my affairs with Jane Watkins are none of your business."
"Likewise, the only one you have to worry about is the one from the Dewar family," Richard retorted, mocking Anthony's engagement.
Jane waved her small hand in front of Anthony's eyes, asking, "What are you daydreaming about? What are you thinking?"
Anthony's gaze fixed on Jane's fingers, and he immediately took her hand to examine it. "Got your nails done? Is this blue? Ugly."
"This is black! Black cat's eye! If you don't understand, just shut up!" Jane's face was full of contempt, as if to say, "You're the ugly one, your whole family is ugly!"
"When did you get it done?" Anthony said it was ugly, but his eyes remained on Jane's fingers.
Jane's fingers were slender and fair, her nails smooth and rounded. The contrast of her white skin and black nails inexplicably held his gaze, though he said it was ugly .
"An hour ago." Jane withdrew her hand, satisfied as she looked at it from different angles. "You can call for nail services on the ship."
Not only could you get your nails done, but there were also high-end spas and massages available.
Jane had called for a nail service purely to pass the time.
Anthony didn't quite understand this childish behavior of painting nails and decided to end the topic. "Get dressed and I'll take you to lunch."
Jane had no objections to this, because the food in the restaurant was better than what the waiters brought to the room due to its immediate service.
The restaurant on this cruise ship was an international buffet, with chefs skilled in various cuisines. Guests were seated, and waiters came to take their orders.
Besides the local dishes, Jane skillfully ordered foie gras seared scallops, truffle caviar, cheesecake, and a serving of cream of mushroom soup.
Jane preferred to keep to herself among the other passengers on the cruise. Apart from the allure of the restaurant's cuisine, she also appreciated that in this type of setting, people didn't greet each other casually, eliminating the superficial pleasantries of small talk.
Additionally, Jane hoped to see if she could find Jovan.
"Who are you looking for?" Anthony's voice pulled Jane back from her thoughts.
Jane withdrew her gaze and looked down at the seascape outside the window. "No one."
"Looking for Richard Foster?" Anthony regretted mentioning the name as soon as he said it.
'I must have been out of my mind. Jane might not know Richard is on the ship,' Anthony thought to himself.
"Richard Foster is here?" Jane was taken aback and quickly glanced around. "Why would someone who likes fishing and tea come to an event like this? He wouldn't come to the restaurant, would he?"
Richard's name reminded Jane of what Jovan had said.
Anthony was slightly stunned. Although Jane had some misconceptions about Richard, such as his image like a school principal, it didn't stop Anthony from noticing Jane's aversion to Richard.
'Jane hasno interest in Richard, just as she didn't three years ago!' Anthony thought.
The waiter brought the soup.
"Let's eat first," Anthony said, not mentioning Richard's name again.
Jane thought for a moment, feeling relieved that she wouldn't be unlucky enough to run into Richard, and began to enjoy the food.
The foie gras seared scallops and truffle caviar were soon served.
Jane eagerly tasted a bite of her beloved truffle caviar, but after a couple of seconds, she pursed her lips.
While Jane was savoring her first bite, Anthony had naturally cut the foie gras into small pieces and the scallops into four equal parts, placing them by Jane's hand.
Jane blinked and said, "Thank you."
Back when Anthony and Jane were still together, it was always Anthony who cut the foie gras and steak because Jane had once praised how beautifully Anthony cut the meat.
However, over the past few years, Jane had gotten used to doing these things herself.
'But since Anthony has already done it, it would make me seem overly particular to point it out now,' Jane thought.
"Is the truffle caviar not good?" Anthony, who had ordered red wine braised beef for himself, ate quickly and noticed that Jane hadn't touched the truffle caviar again.
"It's not as good as the one I had before." Jane had always been very picky with food , especially with her favorite dishes.
Since she had tasted the best, she was unwilling to settle for less.
Anthony couldn't recall which place had the good caviar.
Then it dawned on him that it was probably during the two years he was absent from Jane's life, either she went by herself or with someone else.
In any case, it wasn't with him.
Anthony once again realized that many things had indeed changed between him and Jane.
Those things could never be reclaimed.
After a while, Anthony scoffed, "Picky."
'With Jane's temperament, if Jovan hadn't set up a huge trust fund for her in advance, she might have starved,' Anthony thought.
Jane rolled her eyes at Anthony, too lazy to argue with someone who didn't understand refinement.
As she rolled her eyes, she noticed a man in a white suit enter the restaurant not far away, accompanied by a young Western man with black hair. Both appeared to be around thirty years old.
The man in the white suit, handsome and elegant, was Richard, whom Jane was trying to avoid.
And the black-haired Western man was Ainslee Richardson, the head of the Richardson family, whom Jane was looking for.
Richard's gaze swept over, and Jane quickly ducked her head.
"What's wrong?" Anthony asked, following Jane's gaze and locking eyes with Richard.
Richard smiled, as if in greeting, yet it seemed like a provocation.
Anthony clenched his jaw and narrowed his eyes.
"Didn't you say Richard Foster wouldn't come?" Jane was speechless.
"When did I say that?"
Anthony indeed hadn't said it but it was Jane who had assumed.
Jane propped her head up, feeling helpless.
'Did Richard see me just now? He probably did, right?
'Why is Ainslee Richardson, the head of the Richardson family, with Richard? If they are together, and Jovan is now involved with the Richardson family, could Jovan be with them too?' Jane thought.
From Jovan's attitude, it seemed he had some connection with Richard. Jane realized that avoiding Richard wasn't a solution.
"Are you done eating? If so, let's go." Anthony didn't want Jane to stay around Richard any longer, even though he knew Jane didn't like Richard.
"No!" Jane lifted her head, saying firmly, "I'll wait for them to finish and have a chat with them."
Etiquette dictated that it wasn't appropriate to approach them in the restaurant, but outside the restaurant would be fine.
"Chat about what?"
Anthony asked Jane with a sour expression. His righteous attitude made Jane feel like that she was about to cheat in front of her own husband.
