Chapter 886 Still Want to Try?

Susan attempted to resist, but her concussion had rendered her powerless, leaving her at the mercy of others. Every scream was a torment. Her face contorted as she screamed in pain. Pain engulfed her entire body.

"I may only have this talent, but it is you who are truly inept for surrendering so easily," Natalie said. She was tired of the ordeal and pushed away Susan forcefully.

Susan collapsed onto the bed, her head spinning, a nauseous feeling overwhelming her, yet she was unable to vomit. Her face turned ghostly pale. She glared at Natalie fiercely, wishing she could kill the former now.

"Do you want another try?"

Just as Natalie raised her hand, Susan shuddered involuntarily and, with a pale face, murmured, "No."

After a moment, she asked with a hint of malice, "Natalie, do James and Helen know you treat me this way?"

"I don't care. They're your parents," Natalie retorted. She did not have parents like James and Helen.

Upon arriving at the hospital, the Hastings family sensed something was wrong.

The floor where Susan was located swarmed with bodyguards, all stern and unemotional, guarding her room as if she were a prisoner.

"Who are these people?" James inquired of a nurse, his voice tinged with confusion.

"They are Oliver’s people," she replied.

The Hastings had been informed of Susan's accident, but why were Oliver's people so conspicuously present?

In the past, they might have naively thought these people were there to protect Susan, but now, that seemed unlikely.

"Where is Samuel?" Helen asked, knowing Samuel had traveled to Paykston, supposedly on business.

"I'm not sure," the nurse replied, "Susan was brought here by Oliver's bodyguards."

The Hastings followed the nurse to Susan’s room.

''Jamie.''

Caleb recognized Jamie immediately.

Due to Susan's actions and the Hastings' treatment of Natalie, Jamie did not have any goodwill for them. As such, he only nodded slightly in greeting, unwilling to speak to them.

Caleb's expression darkened. He thought, 'How dare an assistant, a mere employee, show such disrespect! He's too rude and arrogant!'

Nonetheless, Caleb restrained himself from reprimanding Jamie at that moment. First, because Jamie was a direct confidant of Oliver, and second, with so many Windsor family's bodyguards around and Jamie personally guarding the room, it was clear that something significant had occurred.

"Please wait in the room for a while. Oliver and Natalie will be here soon," the nurse advised before leaving.

Helen, Caleb, and James entered the room to find Susan lying on the bed, her face strikingly pale and she looked exhausted. Her left cheek was red and swollen, with bloodstains at the corner of her mouth, and her arm was unnaturally twisted.

Susan looked up with hollow eyes, her expression pitiful.

"Susan, are you okay?" Helen exclaimed, shocked by her daughter's condition as she hurried over anxiously. She asked, "What happened to you? Why is your face bruised? Why didn't you call the nurse to apply cold compress? Let me call the nurse..."

"Don't touch my hand, it hurts!" Susan cried out as Helen tried to adjust her hand, causing her to scream in pain.

James and Caleb, frowning deeply, asked what had happened.

With tears streaming down her face, Susan replied, looking aggrieved, "Grandpa, Dad, Mom... It's Natalie! Natalie slapped me repeatedly. And my hand, originally it was just a minor fracture, but because of her, the injury has worsened. Will my hand be crippled?"

"No, Susan, don't worry. With the medical advancements we have today, I will not let anything happen to you," Helen said to reassure her daughter. Then, she turned to the side before she muttered with a spiteful expression, ''Natalie not only looks like Emma but also has a wicked personality like hers!"

"What did you say?"

Helen’s whispered comment was too soft for Caleb to catch clearly.

Realizing she had spoken too freely after receiving a warning and a disgusted look from James, Helen broke into a cold sweat and quickly corrected herself. "Dad, I said that we should wait for Natalie to come."

"I'll make sure Natalie gives us an explanation!" Helen continued, her voice firm, "Dad, did Natalie hurt Susan so badly because she's jealous? We asked her to return to the Hastings family, but she refused; are we not allowed to have a filial daughter like Susan?"

"Grandpa, Dad, Mom, please don't be angry with Natalie because of me. I know I'm not your biological daughter, so it's understandable for her to feel resentment. Even if Natalie wishes to retaliate against me, I have no complaints," Susan said.

Caleb sighed heavily. "It seems like the child that was raised by our side is better."

"That's right!" Helen chimed in, her tone mixed with frustration and resignation, "Natalie is my biological daughter. I If I weren't so disappointed in her, I wouldn't have turned a blind eye to her."

Meanwhile, James listened to the exchange between Caleb and Helen, feeling a numbness spread within him. He no longer wished to delve into the complexities of right and wrong. Natalie was his daughter, with a commendable reputation, a stable marriage, and even Samuel's support behind her. Fate seemed to be mocking them.

"Get a doctor to treat Susan's injuries," Caleb instructed, gesturing for James to handle it.

James departed but returned shortly afterward with a grave expression. "Without Oliver's orders, we can't treat Susan."

"This is outrageous!" Caleb exclaimed, his cane thudding against the ground in anger. "If the hospital won’t treat patients, should it not close down then? I'll go and talk to them!"

With that, Caleb stormed out. He raised his voice as he confronted the hospital staff.

"Does your hospital have no ethics? You won’t treat patients here?"

"Caleb, this hospital belongs to Oliver, so we have to listen to his orders," the nurse retorted. Then, she looked in the direction of Susan's room and continued, "As for Susan, to be honest, Oliver and Natalie did their part by bringing her here. Originally, she wasn’t hurt that badly. She probably said something she shouldn't have and got slapped."

Clearly, the nurse thought that Susan deserved the treatment she received.

"What kind of attitude is this? Do you think I won't report you for this?"

"Oh, since I support Natalie and Oliver, I don't think Oliver would fire me," the nurse replied confidently before walking away.

Caleb returned to the room, fuming and breathing heavily. "Let's transfer to another hospital!"

"Caleb, transferring might not be possible," Jamie interjected, stopping Caleb in his tracks, "If you want to transfer Susan, you'll need Oliver and Natalie's permission."
