Chapter 1154 Merit
"Jane, how are you?" Anthony looked Jane up and down. His gaze was as sharp as an X-ray scanner, and his expression was serious.
"I'm fine," Jane said, somewhat stunned.
Hadn't she made it clear that it was her colleague who got injured?
Anthony clearly didn't believe her. He signaled to the female nurse beside him, "Take Ms. Watkins down for an examination."
Jane looked puzzled, "What am I getting checked for?"
The nurse gestured for Jane to follow. "Ms. Watkins, please come this way. I'll check if you have any external injuries, just in case you missed something."
Jane wanted to refuse, but when she met Anthony's stern and calm eyes, she felt an overwhelming pressure. She even suspected that if she didn't cooperate, Anthony might threaten to take back the helicopter.
"Alright." Jane reluctantly followed the nurse to a small break room.
After a thorough examination, no issues were found.
The nurse breathed a sigh of relief.
"I told you I was fine. He's just making a big deal out of nothing," Jane muttered as she got dressed.
The nurse smiled, saying, "Mr. Clark is just worried about you. Otherwise, he wouldn't have brought such a top-notch medical team here."
Jane paused while dressing, looked at the nurse, and asked, "What do you mean?"
The nurse looked confused. "Did I say something wrong?"
Jane averted her gaze, her calm exterior hiding a racing heart.
She suddenly remembered something about the doctors and asked the nurse, "Are the doctors who came earlier really that superb?"
"Of course, they're top talents in the international field. They came here during their vacation and had some personal connections with Mr. Clark. They originally thought this would be a work-free trip."
"Thank you," Jane said, her throat dry.
So, the medical team she saw wasn't just ordinary doctors, and they weren't here in a hired capacity.
Even though the nurse didn't explicitly say it, Jane had a vague idea of the truth. Anthony came here for business, but the medical team was likely a precaution for her.
In Jane's impression, Anthony was strong enough to take care of himself, but he never took precautions.
Jane returned to the main lounge, where the injured had been moved to the hotel's large open area, where they were waiting for the helicopter.
The other colleagues in the lounge hadn't dispersed yet.
Seeing Jane return, the person in charge and a few friends of the injured quickly gathered around, expressing their gratitude.
After the thanks, curiosity followed. One asked, "Jane, how did you suddenly get a helicopter?"
The documentary team had considered getting a helicopter, but the timing was too tight, and they couldn't find the right resources.
To call in a helicopter, they needed funding approval, a suitable chopper, and a pilot.
"It wasn't my doing," Jane waved her hand and smiled, "I just happened to know a friend here."
Jane felt she couldn't take all the credit. She turned and easily spotted Anthony in the crowd.
Anthony was too conspicuous. Even though he stood in the corner, his presence was several times stronger than everyone around him.
Jane pointed to Anthony and told her colleagues, "He arranged the helicopter. If you want to thank someone, thank him. I didn't do much."
Though she said that, everyone knew why Anthony arranged the helicopter—it was for Jane's sake!
There were many industry titans and wealthy heirs, yet there's no one else who can summon a plane as effortlessly as Jane does in a setting like this.
Anthony walked over, his presence so strong that people instinctively made way for him.
"Did you call me?" Anthony asked Jane.
Jane thought, 'Who called you? I want to ask why you came over!'
Jane felt like she was being manipulated.
But now that Anthony was here, and she had just asked for his help, Jane had to introduce him to everyone. "Anthony arranged the helicopter, and he also brought the medical team."
A few people looked at Anthony in surprise. His appearance was indeed outstanding.
Before they could thank him, Anthony nodded and said, "No need to thank me. Jane asked me to help."
In other words, if Jane hadn't asked, he wouldn't have helped.
It was very straightforward.
A few people were momentarily stunned, not knowing how to respond.
"Oh! Isn't this Anthony Clark? No wonder!" Miles, who was drinking coffee, suddenly said, his tone full of teasing.
Jane looked at him, both annoyed and helpless, saying, "Mr. Grayson!"
Jane wondered if Miles, at his age, could stop caring about young people's love lives.
The Clark family, connected to Jane, quickly led those who followed the news to make guesses.
For a moment, the people present felt out of place.
From what they had heard, Jane and Anthony's past was far from pleasant.
Their breakup wasn't just a typical lovers' quarrel; it was a bloody mess that everyone knew about.
Jane had been worried about this, which was why she hadn't mentioned Anthony's name. Now, everyone felt awkward.
However, Anthony didn't seem awkward at all.
"Everyone's had a long day. Let's rest up; we have work tomorrow," Jane said to break the tension.
Everyone quickly agreed.
"Alright!"
"Jane, you too. You're the hero today!"
"Mr. Clark, thank you! No matter your reasons, we're very grateful!"
The documentary's logistics team distributed mosquito repellent incense and an illustrated guide to all staff, reminding everyone to wear full-body coverage during future activities and strengthening safety protocols for emergencies.
The hospital brought good news: the injured person, thanks to timely medical attention, was out of danger. However, he would need to stay in the hospital for observation and couldn't participate in future work.
After the scare, people's nerves were still high, and they chatted more than usual.
And the topic was, unsurprisingly, Jane.
"Jane really kept a low profile! We owe her today!"
"I truly admire Jane now. If my ex-boyfriend ruined my family and caused me to miscarry, I'd punch him every time I saw him. How can Jane stay so calm?"
"Honestly, I used to dislike Jane a bit. She's beautiful and a wealthy heir. Yes, I admit I was a bit jealous. But after today, I love her! Beautiful, rich, skilled, and kind-hearted—what's not to like?"
"If Anthony hears that, you might be in trouble."
"I heard Jane dumped Anthony. If it weren't for this emergency, Jane probably wouldn't have contacted him."
"Honestly, if it were me, I wouldn't contact such an ex either. It feels like owing Anthony a favor!"
"Jane is well-liked for a reason. Everyone loves her."
