Chapter 307 Testing, Seeking Harmony

‘If you’re going to act so cold and heartless, then don’t hold my hand,’ Natalie thought inwardly.

She glanced at the sign on the wall and realized they were heading toward Area A.

Area A was not very large and contained fewer than twenty cars, each specifically tailored for women.

From the Porsche 911 to the Ferrari GTC4Lusso, some cars had low and sleek designs, while others boasted captivating lines. The colors were predominantly bold and warm, contrasting with Oliver's usual preferences.

After a quick scan, Natalie was surprised to discover that the least expensive one was a Mercedes-AMG GT.

The Watson family was not poor, and Jane's wealth during the Watkins' prime could be described as considerable. However, in comparison to Oliver, it was akin to comparing a small pond to the vast ocean!

"Choose whichever you like," Oliver said casually, gesturing toward the cars as if he were asking Natalie to pick out vegetables.

Once again, Natalie was taken aback. She pointed at herself.

"Me?"

"You don’t like any of them?" Oliver frowned. He had acquired these cars over time. Thinking that he did not know about her preference, he chose those that caught his eye.

“I don’t know what you like, but they’re all yours…”

“All mine?”

Natalie could not help but tiptoe and touch Oliver's forehead, puzzled.

“Oliver, you… You don’t have a fever. Why are you acting so strangely?”

Oliver's expression instantly turned dark. He belatedly realized how foolish his behavior tonight was. He made up some excuse to deceive Natalie into coming back, forcefully ate food he did not like, set up a stupid chair in the room, and now, he brought her here to choose a car, but she did not like any of them! He felt like such a fool!

‘Isaac, that useless guy, told me women would be happy if you buy them gifts!’

"What’s wrong with you? Are you upset?" Natalie carefully observed his face and tilted her head to ask him.

"No."

"You’re definitely upset."

"I’m not upset with you!" Oliver turned and left with a stern expression. Anyone could tell that he was angry.

Natalie stayed in place, watching his tall figure with increasing interest.

‘He’s angry for sure, but not at me. Is he angry at himself?’

This was the first time Natalie had seen Oliver like this, and she could not quite figure out his mind.

Oliver went back to his study while Natalie returned to the master bedroom.

She brought a book with her before she sat in her new chair. Then, she turned on the floor lamp before she began to read.

After a while, she received a message from Isaac.

Isaac: [Have you made up with Oliver?]

Natalie furrowed her brows. She put down her book and replied to him.

Natalie: [You know about it too?]

Isaac: [Of course, I know. If you promise not to tell Oliver, I’ll tell you something!]

Natalie: [Alright. What is it?]

Isaac: [Yesterday, Oliver asked me what to do when one’s wife is angry. He said he was asking for a friend! Hahaha! I know his friends! Those who are married are all in their forties and fifties. The rest of us are single! He’s definitely not asking for a friend!]

Isaac: [By the way, what did he buy you? I told him to tell his ‘friend’ to buy a gift for his wife.]

Natalie nearly choked, shocked. So, all of Oliver's unusual behavior today was to please her and ask for forgiveness? He did not think the chair was enough, so he gave her a row of luxury cars?

Isaac wanted to gossip about Oliver, but Natalie did not want to engage in that conversation. She politely thanked him and ended the chat.

Oliver sat expressionless in his chair, staring at the quarterly report for the company. Thirty minutes had passed, and he had not absorbed a single word.

Natalie's face appeared in his mind, as he thought about the times when she was gentle, happy, and a little playful. Recently, she had become distant, cold, and angry. He also recalled the way she looked shocked but devoid of joy when she saw the chair and the cars earlier.

Rubbing his forehead, Oliver wondered why it was so difficult to please his wife. He wondered if he should ask for Jane’s advice. However, he quickly dismissed that idea, foreseeing that Jane would scold him before ending the call.

‘What about Lucas? No, that brat will likely mock me and encourage Natalie to divorce me! Why does Natalie surround herself with such people?’

At this time, someone knocked on the door.

Oliver's wandering thoughts snapped back, and he called out, "Come in."

Natalie entered and saw Oliver diligently handling his work as usual.

Natalie grew more certain that Isaac had not lied to her. Oliver was indeed trying to coax her. His fleeting stunned expression strengthened her conviction. Thinking of the many secretive efforts this man made while pretending to be aloof, an idea appeared in her mind.

"Oliver, where’s your car?"

She approached his desk, resting her hands on its edge while Oliver sat opposite.

"Your most commonly used one," she clarified.

"I got rid of it."

Oliver's casual reply made it seem as though discarding a car worth millions of dollars was as mundane as disposing of a piece of garbage.

"Why did you get rid of Rolls-Royce?" Natalie probed further.

Oliver, sensing that the conversation was veering off track, raised an eyebrow. The playful tilt of her head reminded him of a cunning fox.

"Natalie, did someone say something to you?”

"No."

Natalie did not betray her informant and asked in return, “Why? Is there something I should know?”

“No. Anyway, I got rid of it, just because,” Oliver said, acting as though there was no reason needed for him to get rid of the car.

After speaking, he lowered his gaze back to the crumpled report, which had failed to capture his attention for the past half hour.

Noticing his reluctance to talk, Natalie felt a trace of frustration. However, recalling his earlier actions, she took a deep breath and decided to be honest.

She thought, ‘In a marriage, communication is crucial. Remaining angry with each other benefits no one.’

After a moment's consideration, she said, "Oliver, when I first saw that swing, I thought it was Susan who had purchased it."

Oliver abruptly looked up, his expression turning icy. "What does she have to do with this?"

He had gotten that swing to make her happy, and he did not understand why she would think Susan had gotten the chair.

‘What’s going through her mind?’

Married to an Ugly Husband? No!
