Chapter 168 Save Him
The taxi meter displayed a staggering fare exceeding 40 dollars.
The driver cast a brief glance at Natalie, taking note of her attire. She carried no bag and her dress lacked pockets. He wondered how he would pay for the fare.
“Why don’t I drop you off up ahead? I still have to work,” the driver said with a hint of sympathy, reluctant to ask her for payment. However, he could not continue offering free rides. After all, he still needed to make a living.
It took a few moments for Natalie to figure out the driver’s meaning. As soon as she did, she removed the platinum bracelet on her wrist and offered it up, saying, “This is a platinum bracelet, and the diamond on it is genuine. Can I pay you with it? Please take me to another destination.”
Natalie replied, "Rosewood Estate."
…
Among those in the elite circles, everyone knew that Rosewood Estate belonged to Oliver.
It was not uncommon for people to come here, attempting to meet Oliver, but this was the first time the guards had encountered someone dressed like a patient with a shaved head.
"Could he be here to beg the young master for money?"
"Let's not waste any more time; just drive him away!"
However, the young man before them remained undeterred, ignoring all advice and questions. His teary eyes shone with resentment as he looked up ahead.
“Can’t he talk or hear us? Is he okay?”
"If he refuses to leave, we'll have to forcibly remove him. If we allow such a strange person in, we might be fired!"
"This madman is surprisingly persistent. We spent so long dissuading him, but he’s still trying to get in. He’s really crazy."
…
As Natalie sat in the taxi, her mounting anxiety seemed to foretell an ominous future.
The heavy rain muffled the noises in the surroundings, but as they were approaching Rosewood Estate, she heard the sound of a quarrel.
"Why don't you leave? This isn't a place for madmen like you!"
"Damn it! He bit me! I’m going to teach him a lesson he’ll never forget."
"If this madman manages to break in, we’ll pay the price."
"This madman is really resilient! We’ve beaten him for so long, and he’s still not leaving. He’s really insane!”
The driver, alarmed by the distant turmoil, stopped the car and said hesitantly, “Madam, should I drop you off here, or do you want me to take you down the mountain? You…”
Before the driver could finish speaking, he saw the woman in the red dress rush out of the car. He only caught a glimpse of fear on her pallid face.
"Lucas! Stop, please! Lucas, Lucas!" Natalie screamed.
A thin young boy lay prostrate on the ground, drenched by the relentless rain. His blue and white hospital gown was crumpled and dirty, bearing footprints from the repeated kicks. His face was bruised and bleeding; the blood stained his face. Despite all this, he was still crawling toward the gates of Rosewood Estate, undeterred by the guards who were still trying to stop him.
Natalie felt as though her heart had been shredded when she saw this. She threw herself over him, shielding him with her own body.
The guards, so caught up in their anger, were unable to clearly discern the identity of the disheveled woman in the red dress. Based on her behavior, they concluded that she was related to the madman in front of them and that was she insane as well. In their minds, these two lunatics deserved a beating.
Fists and kicks rained down on Natalie’s back, sending searing pain coursing through her body. The rain washed away her makeup and obscured her vision.
At this time, Lucas, through the pain, recognized the familiar voice and embrace, and finally spotted the person he had been searching for.
Lucas thought, ‘She’s really at Rosewood Estate! She really married that useless Oliver Windsor!’
He called out, "Natalie..."
Natalie said, "Don't be afraid, Lucas, I'm here, I'm here."
“Did you really sacrifice yourself for me and marry Oliver? That ring…” Lucas' sentence was interrupted.
The relentless beating caused Natalie to grunt in pain. The guards showed no mercy, and she continued to shield Lucas with her body.
“Natalie, Natalie! Don’t mind me! Get out of the way!” Lucas shouted and struggled, using his hands to shield Natalie. The pain in his hands, from being stepped on, was excruciating.
The rain along with the fists and kicks continued to fall on the siblings.
…
The Rolls-Royce Phantom sped back to Rosewood Estate.
Charles, who was driving, saw the situation up ahead first. Only one thought appeared in his mind, 'It’s over!'
Oliver’s eyes widened for a moment before unprecedented anger raged in his heart. Before the car came to a complete stop, he had already rushed out of the car, stumbling from the inertia. He quickly steadied himself and charged forward, completely ignoring his image.
Charles was shocked and parked the car, rushing over and shouting, "Stop! All of you, stop!"
The guards were unfamiliar with Natalie's voice but recognized that of Charles. Upon hearing his words, they all stopped.
Oliver rushed over and stood rooted to the ground, shocked, as he looked at the two people protecting each other on the ground. His hands were tightly clenched.
"Mr. Windsor!" the guards exclaimed in shock and greeted him in unison.
In just a few seconds, Oliver became drenched like a drowned rat; his wet hair hanging down, and his silver-gray suit turning into a dark gray. In just a moment, the usually impeccable man looked disheveled, but he did not seem to realize it. His expression and his aura were chilling.
Charles held an umbrella in his hand, but he did not dare to approach.
When Natalie heard the word ‘Mr. Windsor’, she looked up. As expected, it was Oliver. She called out hoarsely, “Oliver…”
Lucas in her arms was on the brink of losing consciousness, but he forced himself to stay awake. He could not allow his sister to bear the beating alone, and he could not allow her to protect him. Similarly, when he heard the word ‘Mr. Windsor’, he mustered up the last of his strength and looked up and saw an exquisitely handsome yet cold face. He realized he had met this man before.
At this time, Charles ordered, “Call the doctor! Hurry!”
At this time, Lucas finally fainted.
“Lucas!” Natalie cried out.
After a moment, she clung to Oliver's legs. Her tears mixed with the rain as she pleaded, “Save him! I beg you. Please save him!”
Indeed, the only person who could make Natalie give up her career and dreams was her younger brother.
Oliver had rushed back to Rosewood Estate because he had received news that Lucas had found out about Natalie's marriage and escaped from the hospital.
Oliver’s stiff body seemed to come back to life at this moment. He crouched down to lift Natalie up. He had been afraid to touch her earlier when she saw her covered in blood, worried that he would worsen her injuries.
"Save him... please..."
Natalie held onto Lucas tightly, and Oliver could not bring himself to pry her away. This was the first time he had seen her in such a miserable state. His heart ached as he said, “Are you trying to get yourself killed?”
He thought, ‘You care about saving your brother’s life, but what about you?’
"Please, save him... I'm begging you..."
Natalie’s lips were pale, and her body was abnormally warm. It was clear that she was in a terrible state, and yet, she was still begging Oliver to save her sixteen-year-old brother.
