Chapter 688 Natalie Was Always My Wife
The host felt a bit tragic.
She might have been eager for some juicy news but didn't anticipate broaching a topic so explosive it could potentially earn her Oliver's disdain.
Since Mr. Windsor mentioned it himself, the production team believed they wouldn't be blamed. Mr. Windsor was not one to be bothered by idle audience gossip.
The host was equally terrified and thrilled!
A juicy scoop seemed imminent today!
"Well, everyone's just curious and making guesses without any irrefutable proof. Since you’re a busy man Mr. Windsor, we hope that you probably won't take it to heart... right?" After carefully choosing her words, the host cautiously spoke up, her last word as faint as a mosquito's buzz.
"Take it to heart? Then why would I bring it up?" he answered.
Silence fell.
Of course, Oliver Windsor took it to heart; that was the main reason he had agreed to come on the show.
The man, aloof and dignified, looked into the camera and spoke with restrained lips, "If the former benefactor was me, then the new benefactor is likely me, too."
The host, perplexed, felt a question mark slowly forming on her forehead.
"What did you... say?" She doubted her ears and looked over to the crew for confirmation.
The staff members were wide-eyed and speechless, displaying even more exaggerated reactions than the host herself.
It was confirmed; she hadn't misheard.
"You mean... the person who was at the amusement park on a date with Ms. Natalie was you, Mr. Windsor?" the host asked, fearful and excited simultaneously.
Oliver replied, "I'm puzzled too. Why wouldn't the netizens guess it was me?"
Silence again.
How could nobody guess it was you, are you so lacking in self-awareness? You have never directly addressed such rumors before, neither confirming nor denying; is this your style? Have you forgotten that you were once a rumor silencer?
Whenever there was a rumor involving you and your wife, Natalie, it would be completely scrubbed from the internet!
"Wait," the host pulled herself back to the present with her professional composure, "So, if I'm not mistaken, you and Ms. Natalie... are back together?"
"Ah, no," he replied, flatly.
Confusion set in.
Oliver thought to himself that they had never actually separated.
But as the words came to his lips, he thought about the possibility that if he said they had never been divorced, there'd be a bunch of busybodies claiming that their widely publicized split was orchestrated by Natalie, that she was being capricious and playing with the public.
Oliver couldn't stand any attack against Natalie—at least within his sphere of control, he didn't want to see it. Besides, he felt he owed Natalie the love and experiences that they were supposed to have.
"I was the one who pursued her," Oliver said. "The whole amusement park story was made up, she hasn't agreed yet."
At the amusement park, he had told the staff that he and Natalie were husband and wife.
Oliver added, "In my heart, Natalie has always been my wife."
The staff in the live broadcast room felt as if they were suddenly force-fed a bowl of dog food—a slang for public displays of affection that can make single folks feel a bit awkward.
Just then, the director informed the host through an earpiece that the viewership had spiked—all eyes were on Oliver. They encouraged the host to keep it steady.
Oliver's appearance on the live interview had become a trending topic just ten minutes earlier. It wasn't just the gossip that attracted people; many came just to see Oliver's handsome face.
The host took a deep breath and asked with a smile, "So, at this stage, you and Ms. Natalie are not actually husband and wife, and you are pursuing her?"
"Ah," Oliver nodded, his expression unchanging as he said, "She agreed to the date because she felt sorry for me."
The online viewers in the live broadcast chat were confused.
Where did he look pitiful exactly?
