Chapter 496
Samuel had always considered Susan to be intelligent, but now he only felt that she was extremely foolish.
Oliver looked down at Susan and said tonelessly, “That’s why I didn’t demand for you to go abroad with your mother. I’ve given you many chances, but you still refused to apologize to Natalie. So, I’m giving you another chance now—to marry. At least you have the freedom to choose your own husband.”
"But I love you, Oliver! How can you make me marry someone else when you know I love you?! I only want to marry you!” Susan sobbed.
Oliver’s gaze was chillingly indifferent as he said, “Susan, my wife is Natalie.”
"But Natalie is divorcing you!" Susan exclaimed.
Oliver was merely indifferent earlier, but upon hearing Susan’s words, a terrifyingly gloomy aura lingered around him.
Despite the approaching summer, Samuel felt an undeniable chill.
Oliver was clearly furious.
“Did you think that if she divorces me, I’ll marry you? You’re delusional,” Oliver said. His words were deliberately harsh and cutting, striking Susan deeply.
‘He wouldn’t marry me even if he were to divorce Natalie? How’s that possible?’
"No, no..." Susan shook her head vehemently as she said, "Oliver, the incident that day was entirely Natalie's manipulation, you must believe me. She just wants to sow discord between us! She, she doesn’t want me to marry you! It’s her way of retaliating against you!”
"Retaliation?" Oliver raised an eyebrow, clearly skeptical. He knew Natalie was not one to seek revenge. Moreover, her departure was vengeance enough.
“Oliver, do you… do you believe me now?”
Seeing that Oliver did not say much, Susan mistook his reaction for him believing her words. She looked at him eagerly.
“Well, if it is her intention to sow discord, then she’s succeeded.”
"Oliver?!" Panic overtook Susan.
"Taking care of you doesn’t mean I have feelings for you, and it certainly doesn’t give you the right to trample on my wife,” Oliver said. Then, indicating that he no longer wanted to speak to Susan, he said, “Samuel, I expect to hear Susan’s engagement announcement within three months. Also, six months should be enough to plan the wedding, right?”
Following that schedule, securing venues and making wedding dresses would be manageable—a requirement that was not excessively stringent.
Among his peers, Samuel was regarded as outstanding. However, even he was taken aback by Oliver’s audacity. Driven by curiosity, he asked, “And if the Hastings family refuses?”
"Then, we shall see," Oliver said with a cold smirk. He left with confident strides, ordering the servants, “Please show the guests out.”
Samuel casually flicked his lighter open and close. To outsiders, the heir of the Hastings family was a refined gentleman, but in private, he was somewhat of a careless playboy with a roguish charm.
"Samuel, does Oliver... does he really not care about me anymore?" Susan asked, looking lost.
Samuel nodded. "That’s right. Otherwise, why would he meet us here?”
This place was at the edge of the Rosewood Estate; it could barely count as stepping foot inside Rosewood Estate. If Susan had held any weight in Oliver’s heart, she would have been welcomed into the main building.
