Chapter 969: I Am Your Ex-Boyfriend
Anthony acted as if he hadn't heard what Ann said and instructed Clint to call the Lopez family to ‘invite’ Shirley over.
Anthony was determined to get to the bottom of this matter!
"Anthony, do you really have to handle it this way? The Lopez family may not be as powerful as the Clark family, but they are not to be underestimated. Besides, Jane is fine. This is all because she's too delicate." Ann seemed to remind Anthony, but it also felt like she was deliberately putting pressure on him.
Anthony thought, ‘Jane isn't even that delicate anymore.’
Aurora chimed in, "That's right, Anthony. Shirley and Ms. Watkins have never gotten along. From what I know about Shirley, she wouldn't do something like this unless Ms. Watkins was at fault first."
"Do you think Jane, even if she's being bullied now, doesn't have the means to fight back?" Anthony took a shallow breath. Considering that Ann was his mother, he decided to say a few more words to Aurora. "Without the Watkins family, do you think what Natalie would go to great lengths to do for Jane? And there's also Flora."
Aurora turned pale instantly.
Ann didn't dare to speak casually either.
Natalie was Oliver's wife. Everyone knew how much Oliver doted on Natalie, both domestically and internationally.
Although Flora didn't marry Arthur, she did have a daughter with him. Arthur's pursuit of Flora was an open secret in their circle and anyone with eyes could see it.
Anyone familiar with the gossip in their circle knew how protective Natalie and Flora were of their family and friends.
Even without the Watkins family, Jane still had the Windsor family and the RisingKing Group backing her.
"They wouldn't go that far... would they?" Aurora couldn't even finish her sentence because she didn't believe it.
Natalie once stood up for Flora in a high-stakes competition, so she could go to great lengths for Jane.
Aurora had never seen such sisterly affection. Even real sisters often looked out for their own interests, let alone Jane, Natalie, and Flora, who weren’t even related by blood.
But the facts were right in front of them, making it hard not to believe and even harder to take risks.
"I'll call Mrs. Lopez." Ann immediately realized the gravity of the situation.
Although Ann didn't like Jane, when she saw Jane in shock, needing an oxygen mask, she was filled with panic. Now, thinking back, that panic was because she was afraid something would happen to Jane. After decades in the elite circles, the intricacies of relationships were deeply ingrained. She could sense them immediately, like the relationship between Jane, Natalie, and Flora.
Jane could have problems, but she couldn’t have an accident under unclear circumstances in the Clark family!
"Go get Jane," Ann instructed the servant after calling the Lopez family.
"I'll go," Anthony stopped the servant.
" You need to personally fetch Jane?" Ann looked even worse facing Anthony.
Aurora stared intently at Anthony.
Anthony didn't hide his intentions. "Yes. If something happens to her on the way, who will be responsible?"
"Anthony, do you still not believe that this has nothing to do with me?" Aurora was on the verge of tears as if she had suffered a great injustice.
Anthony gave Aurora a very faint glance, too lazy to say another word.
"I want coffee from this shop, a large one with less sugar and regular ice. And a sandwich and a burger from this place. That's it! I'll transfer the money to you, and the rest is your tip. Thanks for running the errand! Remember to keep it a secret. Don't tell anyone about this!" Jane said.
The door to Jane's hospital room was slightly ajar, leaving a small gap.
Anthony walked to the door and happened to hear this conversation.
Jane's voice was much clearer compared to an hour ago when her throat was dry.
"Don't tell anyone what?" Just as Jane finished speaking, Anthony's voice came through. At the same time, the door was fully opened.
Anthony stood expressionless at the door, meeting Jane's slightly guilty gaze. He raised an eyebrow as if to say, “Jane, your plan isn't going to work.”
"Nothing." Jane pretended nothing had happened and told the nurse, "You can go now!"
"Wait!" Anthony could stop the nurse with only one word and his look. "Don't buy any of what she said. You can leave."
All the food she was already craving was ordered but then intercepted, making Jane furious. "Anthony, are you crazy? Did I spend your money?"
Anthony sat down by Jane's bed. "You knew I was crazy a long time ago, didn't you?"
The implication was that Anthony had always been crazy about controlling Jane.
He was before, and he still is now.
"Jane, you're sick. Coffee, sandwiches and burgers are not what you should eat." Jane was so full of resentment that Anthony couldn't help but lecture her.
"You're not anyone to me. Why do you care?" Jane turned her face to the side, looking defiant and unhappy.
If it weren't for the strict management of this private hospital, where delivery personnel couldn't enter freely and only designated nurses could pick up food downstairs, Jane would have ordered delivery long ago.
"I'm your ex-boyfriend," Anthony managed to say.
