Chapter 1033 I will marry no woman other than Jane Watkins.

Jane was persuaded by Anthony.

'It makes no sense to let me miss out on the custom jewelry I like just because of Anthony, right?' Jane thought.

This could be seen as compensation for Jane attending Anthony's disastrous engagement party.

For the sake of basic decency, Jane had given a gift worth hundreds of thousands of dollars at that time.

If she didn't accept this bracelet, she would be at a loss.

After dinner, Anthony went to the bathroom to freshen up.

Anthony still couldn't take a bath, but his back injury had eased up a bit. Moving his arms didn't affect him much, so he was able to clean himself.

Jane was taking photos of the corners of the mansion with her phone. Although the mansion's interior design was not entirely satisfactory, there were certain details that she could appreciate.

The pictures taken with the phone weren't as good as those taken with a camera, but with some editing, they were still usable.

Jane had just posted the photos on her social media platform when she heard Anthony's phone on the table start to vibrate.

It showed that it's his mom calling.

Jane didn't pay attention, because it had nothing to do with her. Anthony could call back when he came out of the bathroom.

Two minutes later, Jane's phone started ringing. It was Ann's number.

Ann couldn't reach Anthony, so she called Jane.

Jane lowered her eyes. As soon as she answered, a harsh, scolding voice came through the receiver, full of bitterness.

"Jane Watkins, what have you done to my son? Where are you two?"

Jane didn't want to talk to Ann in the first place. Now Ann not only reached out to her, she started screaming, as if she was afraid Jane wouldn't hear.

Jane hung up the phone.

Ann persistently called again.

It wasn't until the third call that Jane reluctantly answered.  "Mrs. Clark, if you're not polite, I won't listen to a single word."

Ann took several deep breaths, as if trying to control her temper.

"Jane, what did you do to hurt my son again? Why is he with you? What are you up to? Haven't you caused him enough harm?"

The tone was slightly better, but the content was still harsh.

"Mrs. Clark, I don't want to talk to you. If you have any questions, ask your son when he comes out of the bathroom." Ann wasn't worth Jane's time.

Jane worried that if she said any more, she would go crazy and curse Ann .

"Bathroom?" Ann sounded like she had heard something shocking.

"Jane Watkins, can you have some decency and stop clinging to my son? Don't think that without Aurora, you can become my daughter-in-law! My husband and daughter's lives are at stake. I, Ann Clark, will never forgive your family!"

Jane sneered and said, "Who cares." Then she hung up the phone.

Anthony came out of the bathroom, seeing Jane hugging her knees on the sofa. She looked dejected and lost in thought, clearly in a bad mood.

"What's wrong?" Anthony, now in a loose bathrobe, wheeled himself closer to Jane.

Even though Jane had seemed in a better mood after receiving the new bracelet, she was now down again.

Jane lifted her eyelids and gestured to the phone on the table. "Your phone rang earlier."

Anthony glanced at the call log and there were two missed calls, both from Ann.

"Next time, you can answer for me," Anthony said.

Jane had no interest in answering other people's calls. She couldn't help but add, "Answering your mother's calls? Are you kidding?"

Ann had never been nice to Jane, and they both knew it.

Anthony originally thought that since he wanted to marry Jane, Ann and Jane would have to meet eventually.

However, if Ann and Jane really couldn't get along, it didn't matter. A mother-in-law and daughter-in-law didn't necessarily have to meet.

"I'm going to my room." Jane picked up her laptop and headed upstairs, reminding Anthony, "The doctor and nurse are coming tomorrow to change your medication."

Anthony was stunned for a moment.

He had always remembered the follow-up appointment, but he didn't expect that Jane would remember it too.

Jane had never remembered anything like this before, not even taking her medication on time, often forgetting and needing reminders. Now she could remember Anthony's follow-up appointment.

Anthony couldn't quite describe his feelings.

'Is Jane maturing and no longer needing me, or is she specifically remembering my follow-up appointment for my sake?

'If it is the latter, is it because Jane cares about me or she just sees me as her responsibility since I got injured for saving her?' Anthony thought.

With only Anthony left in the living room, the 16-foot-high ceiling made the room feel even more empty and lonely.

Anthony dialed Ann's number. "Hello, Mother."

"Anthony, how did you get hurt? Is it serious?" Ann urgently inquired about Anthony's condition.

"It's not serious." Anthony guessed that news of his appearance at the gallery had reached Ann, so he explained further, "I'm using the wheelchair just to keep the wound from straining."

"Okay." Ann sighed in relief, then quickly changed her tone, "Are you with Jane?"

Anthony didn't hide it. "You called because you were sure she was with me, didn't you?"

"Did she have something to do with your injury? Did she cause it?" Ann spoke as if referring to a heinous criminal.

"No," Anthony replied without hesitation. "It was my own issue."

"Impossible! Otherwise, you wouldn't have hidden it from me." Ann had a gut feeling that Anthony's injury was related to Jane.

"I hid it from you because I didn't want you to worry." Anthony looked out at the night, his expression cold.

Every word of comfort and reassurance was just for show.

"Then come home to rest and recover. We can take better care of you." Ann added, "Clint is really loyal to you. He was even deceiving me!"

If Jane were present, she might have retorted, "You don't pay Clint's salary, so why shouldn't he deceive you? Because you're cheeky or old?"

"I'm not coming back for now," Anthony instructed. "Take care of yourself."

"Not coming back?" Ann's voice rose sharply. "Do you want to stay with that hussy Jane Watkins?"

"Mother, she's not a hussy." Even if she were, she would be her future daughter-in-law and the mother of her future grandchildren.

Ann tried to persuade him earnestly. "Anthony, listen to me. You and Jane are not compatible. You have no future together. She doesn't suit you, and I won't allow her to marry into our family! Come back, and I'll agree to you marrying any woman except Jane."

"Mother, let me tell you one more time that I won't marry any woman except Jane."
Married to an Ugly Husband? No!
