Chapter 1155 Confession

Jane sat in her room, sighing and stressing about how to repay Anthony for his favor.

She'd bumped into Anthony on her way here and wasn't sure what to make of his attitude.

However, the nurse's words and Anthony's reactions made Jane think he might've come just for her.

If that was true, she had to take this seriously.

How she repaid him could affect their relationship.

Jane planned to ask Clint for Anthony's room number, but she saw Anthony as soon as she stepped out.

Anthony was holding a file folder and turned when he heard the door open.

"Heading out?" Jane asked.

Anthony glanced at her fingers, noticing her nervous habit of intertwining them.

He responded with a "Hmm" and asked, "Looking for me?"

"Ah, no, it's nothing. You go ahead with your work," Jane said, feeling oddly relieved.

Anthony wasn't buying it. He raised an eyebrow, "Nothing now, but something later?"

Jane glared, "When you're free, let me treat you to a meal to thank you for today and yesterday."

Anthony flipped through his file, giving her a scrutinizing look.

"Treating someone to a meal as a thank you. Is that your usual way, Jane?"

"What?" Jane blurted.

'What does he mean by the usual way?' she thought. Then it hit her—she'd once treated Richard to a meal to thank him.

Anthony continued, "So, my treatment is no different from other men?"

His words had a clear undertone.

Jane was now sure Anthony's visit wasn't just for business.

As she pondered, Anthony got a call. He looked at her, waiting for an answer.

Jane suspected he was deciding whether to meet the caller.

"You go ahead; I'll talk to you when you get back," Jane said, almost biting her tongue.

She'd come to invite him to a meal, so why reveal her true purpose?

"I'll be right there," Anthony said into the phone, then hung up and handed Jane a room card.

"Wait for me inside," he said, nodding towards his room.

Jane was speechless. "I have my room; why should I go to yours?"

Anthony replied, "What if you change your mind and don't want to see me when I get back?"

'Does he think I won't keep my word?' Jane thought angrily.

She was about to argue but realized she had often taken advantage of his patience in the past.

"Fine, got it," Jane said.

She took the room card and waved him off.

Then she went into her room. 'Who wants to go to his room?' she thought.

Looking at the room card in her hand, Jane realized she now had a problem—Anthony's room card. He'd set her up.

The town was small, with limited restaurant options. Jane picked a well-known local music bar and sent Anthony the location.

She chose this place because the live band would keep things from getting too awkward, and she wanted to try the food.

Anthony hadn't arrived yet, so Jane ordered some desserts. Each bite was more disappointing than the last.

When Anthony showed up, he saw Jane looking bitterly at the dishes.

"What's wrong?" he asked, sitting down.

"Nothing," Jane replied, calling the waiter to order. She was relieved Anthony wasn't picky about food; otherwise, this meal would be a disaster.

Jane struggled to start the conversation, and this continued until all the dishes were served.

The food didn't look great, and Jane wasn't interested.

Anthony took a couple of bites and noticed Jane poking at her food, clearly uninterested.

He wasn't surprised; Jane was always picky about food.

"How about we change restaurants?" Anthony suggested. "You don't like the food here."

Jane pouted but didn't move. She wasn't here for the food.

Anthony put down his utensils, leaned back, and sat in a relaxed but dominant posture.

His attitude made it clear he wouldn't eat until Jane said what she needed to say.

"Anthony, you didn't come here just for work, did you?" Jane asked, putting down her fork.

"No, I don't," Anthony replied without hesitation.

Jane looked at him quietly. "Then what else?"

"Jane, if I tell you the truth, will you be scared?" Anthony asked.

The band was playing a relaxed country song in a foreign language.

They locked eyes, as if in a silent confrontation or emotional entanglement.

Jane suddenly felt afraid to know the answer.

Anthony knew her too well, not giving her a chance to back down.

"Jane, you are the primary reason I'm here; the job is secondary," he said.

Anthony either stayed silent or told the whole truth.

Jane felt her heart skip a beat as if something was chasing her, forcing her to keep moving forward.

Anthony's gaze was intense, almost scorching.

"I thought you had moved on," Jane tried to stay composed.

"No," Anthony said.

'How could I move on?' he thought.

Anthony bluntly said, "That was just an illusion I showed you. Jane, you asked me to let you go, so I made you feel like I had given up. Now, we're starting over. On the way here, I deliberately walked behind you. The doctor and bodyguards in the car were prepared for you, and the helicopter was also for you. If you need, there are more people and resources at your disposal."
