Chapter 1123 Unwilling to See Him

The wedding of the head of the Green family was particularly lively for three reasons.

First, Jane and Jovan of the Watkins family would make a high-profile return, which meant the hierarchy of the elite circles in Paykston and even the entire country would be reshuffled.

Second, guests had learned from various sources that Ainslee, who accompanied Jane and Jovan, was the current head of the Richardson family. Moreover, the relationship between Ainslee and Jovan was extraordinary, extremely close even. There were also rumors that this young head of the Richardson family had handed over their power to Jovan. Although the Richardson family was internally complex, its influence was far more formidable than the Watkins family ever had been.

Third, Anthony would appear at the wedding.

Anthony was now a hot figure in the circle. For business people, he was a great partner; for the idle socialites, he was a great topic of discussion; and for a small group of people, he was an excellent candidate for marriage.

In short, wherever he appeared, he was the focus.

"Anthony really came, but why haven't I seen Jane?"

"Jane is here. I saw her when she got out of the car, dressed particularly beautifully."

"Jane dressed so beautifully; could it be because she knew Anthony was coming?"

"Who knows? Now that we can't find her, could she be hiding?"

Before the words were finished, the crisp sound of high heels came from the restroom.

Jane looked coldly at the two people, but there was a faint smile on her lips. Her high and cold demeanor gave a strong sense of oppression.

"Ms. Watkins." The person who spoke earlier smiled awkwardly.

Jane raised an eyebrow slightly.

The two people took the opportunity to slip away before Jane could speak, afraid of being scolded by her.

If it were any other time, Jane might really have scolded them.

But now her mind was full of the thought, 'Anthony, actually come!'

It was her first time out in Paykston, and she ran into Anthony. What bad luck.

"Ms. Watkins?" A slightly surprised voice came from not far away.

Jane looked up and saw Carol with short hair.

"Ms. Cunningham is here too; what a coincidence," Jane greeted her skillfully. Although they had only met once, they had a good impression of each other and got along well.

"Mr. Green and my father are good friends," Carol explained. "By the way, Mr. Clark is in the banquet hall."

Carol specifically pointed out Anthony's location, giving Jane a choice: if Jane wanted to see Anthony, she could go directly to the banquet hall. If she didn't want to see him, she could avoid going there.

"Thanks!" Jane readily accepted Carol's kindness. "Ms. Cunningham, why not stay in Paykston for a few more days? I'll treat you to a meal."

"I'd love to, but my schedule has been quite full lately. Maybe next time." Carol understood that Jane just wanted to thank her and return the favor, so she said, "If Ms. Watkins is willing, I would like to invite you to be the photographer for our new endorsement. As for the pay, we'll go by the market rate."

"Sure," Jane said.

Business cooperation was straightforward, and neither side lost out. But strictly speaking, Carol's side did benefit more. Jane's commercial value was high, and she was quite selective about her projects. Getting her as a photographer was not easy.

After saying goodbye to Carol, Jane turned and went to the small outdoor garden, avoiding the banquet hall.

Jovan had assigned bodyguards to Jane, so finding her was not difficult.

Jane sat on a wicker chair in the garden and suddenly felt a weight on her shoulders. A coat was draped over her, blocking the night wind.

"Be careful not to catch a cold." Jovan frowned and lectured Jane.

"The doctor said I'm fully recovered, Jovan. You're making a big deal out of nothing," Jane retorted but obediently put on Jovan's coat.

Jovan was noncommittal. "The doctor also said you're underweight. How are you going to gain weight properly?"

Jane thought men never understood women's obsession with maintaining their figure.

"Why are you sitting here? Don't want to see certain people?" Jovan turned slightly to block the wind for Jane.

"Yeah." Jane was usually honest with Jovan.

After a few seconds, she spoke up, "Jovan, I don't actually feel guilty towards Anthony. I have nothing to apologize for. That child couldn't have been saved anyway, but I'm just a bit afraid to see him."

Jovan was good at giving Jane an out. He said, "It's not that you're afraid to see him. You just don't want to see him."

Jane nodded in agreement.

That's right, she didn't want to see Anthony.

What would be the point of seeing him? What could they talk about?

When she left in a hurry without saying goodbye, she just wanted to escape that place as soon as possible and return to Jovan.

In fact, her decision to leave had little to do with Anthony.

In the banquet hall, Anthony was talking with several chairmen, while Clint, his secretary and bodyguard, discreetly scanned the entire venue.

When the others left, Clint whispered in Anthony's ear, "I didn't see Ms. Watkins."

Anthony's cold and stern gaze swept over Clint, his face filled with a questioning look that seemed to say, "Did I look for her?"

However, Clint couldn't help but read a hint of defiance in his face, as if to say, "Yes, I am looking for her, but you can't just openly admit it."

'Come on, Jane has left you; why are you still being so proud?' Clint thought. 'Mr. Clark, you've changed! You weren't like this before!'

Anthony naturally knew Jane wasn't in the banquet hall. Although he didn't want to admit it, he instinctively started searching for Jane the moment he arrived.

Hearing others' conversations along the way, he confirmed that Jane was here but didn't want to see him, right?

"Mr. Clark, Mr. Watkins went to the back garden." Clint quickly found out.

Jane wasn't there, and Jovan went to the back garden. Given how much Jovan doted on his sister, it was almost certain that Jane was there.

Anthony responded with a "Hmm."

"Mr. Clark, aren't you going?" Clint asked.
Married to an Ugly Husband? No!
