Chapter 941 Vigilance

The next day was a sunny day.

However, the bright sun of late autumn brought no warmth.

Jane opened the door and found Sadie standing on the steps of the hall, supervising the other servants as they carried out their morning cleaning routine.

Sadie was wearing a black autumn dress today, giving her a somewhat solemn appearance.

"Ms. Watkins, you're up quite early," Sadie said surprisingly.

Jane glanced at the clock. It was 8:30, not particularly early, even the gardener had already put away his shears.

If Sadie hadn't looked so serious, Jane might have thought she was joking. Sensing Jane's confusion, Sadie clarified, "Mr. Clark mentioned that you enjoy sleeping in and typically wake up around ten." Jane was briefly surprised.

Sadie realized halfway through her sentence that she shouldn't have said that, but stopping midway would have seemed even more suspicious, so she finished her sentence.

“That's all in the past," Jane swiftly composed herself and calmly responded.

"Sadie, Mr. Clark doesn't comprehend me at the moment. You don't have to consider his words as validation." Sadie nodded politely, inwardly feeling sorry for Anthony.

Ms. Watkins was a challenging person to pursue. She had high standards and a strong background. It was no surprise that Mr. Clark, who knew Jane well, would underestimate Aurora.

Jane discreetly glanced around but didn't see Anthony, Aurora, or Ann, assuming they were all at the hospital.

Jane was technically a guest at the Watkins family, but everyone was aware of the true circumstances. Consequently, no one had prepared breakfast for her. They were anticipating Jane to either feel embarrassed or go without food. Jane was weighing her options between swallowing her pride and preparing something in the kitchen or enduring hunger to uphold her dignity.

"Ms. Watkins, Mrs. Clark asks you to go to the hospital."

Before Jane could decide, a servant came in and said.

“The car is waiting outside." This indicated that Jane should depart promptly without any delay. Everything was set up, just awaiting Jane's compliance.

Jane smirked self-deprecatingly. Well, now she didn't have to choose. She would just go hungry. Jane never imagined she would one day visit a love rival. No, she was a former rival. Given her current status, Jane had no right to see anyone as a rival. She was the one who had disrupted someone else's family. When she arrived at the hospital, Aurora was having breakfast.

The room was filled with the scent of oatmeal, both fragrant and crispy, instantly evoking the sensation of its texture.

Alongside the oatmeal, there were fried eggs, bacon, pancakes, and a bowl of vegetable soup. The enticing aroma filled the air.

Ann was absent, but two senior servants from the Clark family were caring for Aurora, with one feeding her and the other providing support, treating her with the utmost care as if she were a precious treasure.

Jane watched this scene numbly, feeling a pang in her back, uncertain of what she felt inside.

"Ms. Watkins, what brings you here?" Aurora looked at Jane in surprise.

Aurora gestured, and the servants tactfully set the bowl aside.

"Didn't you call me here?"  Jane's gaze landed on Aurora's swollen belly. Just as she was about to avert her eyes, she noticed Aurora cautiously placing her hand over her pregnant stomach.

Jane was very vigilant.

Jane almost wanted to ask, "Does it look like I am to harm your child?"

"Jane, what do you want to do?" A harsh voice suddenly reprimanded from behind.

Jane swiftly sidestepped, avoiding Ann's pushing hand.

Ann stood in front of Aurora's hospital bed, glaring at Jane as if she were a murderer. "Are you trying to harm my grandson again? Don't even think about it! If anything happens to my grandson, I'll make sure your crippled brother pays for it!

"My brother is not a cripple!" Jane suddenly turned agitated.

“Jane, why are you looking at me like that? Remember our relationship!" Ann showed no shame in her threats. "Jovan Watkins isn't just a cripple. He's been bedridden for three years. Calling him a cripple is being generous. Go hear what people are saying about Jovan Watkins!”

Ann paused for a moment.

Aurora looked at Ann, then at Jane, "Ms. Watkins, don't be angry. Auntie's words aren't the worst. Many people call Mr. Watkins a living dead."

Before the words ,living dead, could even be uttered, Jane's piercing gaze fell on her.

Aurora instinctively shivered.

Jane's gaze was chilling, as if she were peering at someone already deceased, emanating darkness and coldness. Aurora even feared that Jane might suddenly lunge forward, grab a chair, and slam it over her head and stomach in a fit of rage over Jovan's precarious condition.

"Ms. Watkins," Aurora stammered, clutching her belly in fear, like a vulnerable creature seeking solace from Ann. "Auntie, Auntie...

Someone who were unaware might have thought Jane had already started hitting the pregnant woman.

Ann reassured Aurora, "Aurora, don't be afraid. Our bodyguards are outside. Jane wouldn't dare do anything foolish. Plus, you're Anthony's fiancée, and you're carrying Anthony's child. Anthony wouldn't let this woman harm you or the baby.”

Aurora's eyes were filled with vigilance as she stared at Jane.

Jane found it both ironic and amusing. Aurora and Ann were really putting on a show but Jane hadn't made any move to act violently.

"Mrs. Clark, may I ask why you called me here?" Jane took a deep breath, trying to move past the unpleasant incident.

The more she pondered over it, the more upset she grew. However, Jane now had to depend on Ann to gather information about Jovan. Under Ann's influence, she had no option but to submit.

"Where is my son?" Ann asked.

Jane was stunned for a moment, almost thinking she had misheard, "Your son? How would I know?"

Jane found it amusing. "Shouldn't you be asking your future daughter-in-law instead of me? Or is it that your son still has feelings for me? Mrs. Clark, I recall advising you to monitor your son. Even though I am no longer the heiress of the Watkins family, I have no lack of suitors. As for Mr. Clark, who is engaged and expecting a son, I have no interest.

Jane's sarcasm was so evident that it caused Ann's face to darken. "Stop flattering yourself. My son wouldn't be interested in a malicious and spoiled woman like you!" Ann said disdainfully.

Aurora secretly breathed a sigh of relief upon realizing that Anthony wasn't with Jane.

However, if Anthony wasn't with Jane, then where could he be? He knew she had nearly miscarried, yet he didn't come to the hospital to comfort Aurora?
Married to an Ugly Husband? No!
