Chapter 479

"I was... worried…" Susan attempted to justify her actions.

"Enough!"

Samuel's voice silenced Susan before she could continue.

"Look at the wheelchair tracks on the floor. They were clearly made while moving backward," Samuel pointed out, directing everyone's attention to the marks on the carpet, "Susan, do you think it’s believable that Natalie plotted against you when it’s clear she was trying to escape from you?”

Natalie’s eyes widened in surprise. Despite Oliver having dismissed Samuel as a fool, it was clear that Samuel was not stupid at all. It seemed like Oliver and Emily’s opinion of Samuel was not reliable at all. In any case, that did not matter; what mattered was Samuel’s unexpected support.

In fact, Natalie had intentionally maneuvered her wheelchair backward to leave those tracks on the intricately woven carpet, evidence of her retreat. However, she knew she could not introduce this piece of evidence herself. She had hoped Oliver would notice, but Samuel had beaten him to it. With this, her previous disdain for Samuel transformed into a hint of respect.

Susan, caught off guard by this evidence, said sarcastically, “Natalie, you’re really cunning!”

Mr. Hastings, fuming with anger, chastised Susan, "Susan, your stubbornness is appalling! Oliver suggested involving the police, and Natalie was the one who suggested solving this privately. How dare you push the blame away at this time?”

The persistence of Susan's denial deeply disappointed Mr. Hastings.

"Susan, your actions have deeply disappointed me,” Mr. Hastings said,

"None of you believe me!” Susan collapsed to the floor, her tears cascading down her cheeks as she cried out in despair, "Why doesn’t anyone believe me?"

“Oliver, Natalie, regarding today's events... we owe you an apology,” Mr. Hastings stated.

Just as he was about to bow to them, Jamie, acting on a signal from Oliver, quickly approached him to support him. With this, no chance was given for an apology.

“Mr. Hastings, the manner in which you apologize is up to you. However, it’s also up to us to accept it or not. I expect you’ll offer a convincing explanation to me and my wife,” Oliver replied, his voice tinged with irritation as he picked up the rings, clutching them tightly in his hand before leading Natalie away.

Mr. Hastings let out a series of heavy sighs.

Throughout the exchange, Natalie remained detached and, before departing, cast an additional look at Susan.

Their gazes met.

Susan glared at Natalie resentfully while Natalie smiled provocatively at the former slightly, clearly disdainful.

"Natalie, why are you doing this to me? Why did you turn against me?” Susan screamed, her fingers gripping the carpet in desperation.

Susan acknowledged to herself that she had indeed orchestrated numerous schemes against Natalie, but those incidents were in the past. She reasoned that Natalie's misfortune was largely due to Helen's actions, not hers. Why was it that Helen stood unscathed while she bore the brunt of the blame? If Natalie wanted revenge, she could have acted long ago. Why choose this moment?
Married to an Ugly Husband? No!
