Chapter 888 Threat

Samuel looked at James and continued, "Am I not being clear enough? I helped Susan to deal with the aftermath. She tried to crash into Natalie and Oliver's car, hitting thirteen other vehicles in the process, and all the injured are now at the city hospital."

Before Sarah could speak, Samuel turned to her and said, "Remember the Lamborghini that kept forcing you to stop? That was me driving. When you crashed into the tree, I was the one who opened the door of your car."

Sarah's face turned pale.

Caleb, James, and Helen were shocked and speechless.

How could this happen? How could it be like this?

Natalie silently regarded Samuel. It felt like a shallow stream had revitalized her parched heart. She had never imagined that someone from the Hastings family would take her side. Initially, she thought that Samuel maintained a neutral stance between her and the Hastings family. But at this moment, he clearly chose her, Natalie.

Samuel, hands on his hips, looked up at the ceiling for a few seconds before turning to Caleb and James, saying, "I'm truly relieved that Natalie decided to distance herself from the Hastings family."

Samuel's disappointment was palpable.

"Samuel," Helen started, taken aback by his grave words.

"Shut up! It's all your doing! This—" James gestured toward Susan on the bed as he scolded, "She is the one you raised, spoiled, and protected!"

Caleb was deeply affected, but after enduring many crises, he managed to maintain his composure, knowing that resolving the conflict between Susan and Natalie was the priority.

"Natalie, look, you and Oliver are unharmed, and Nathan should be fine too. Susan has received her deserved punishment, and you have also hit her. This incident hasn't led to any serious consequences, so let's move past it, okay? Could you do this for me?" Caleb negotiated with a smile.

"Do you expect me to forgive Susan just like that?" Natalie was unwilling to oblige Caleb. "Our family was unharmed, which has nothing to do with Susan’s malicious intentions. We were fortunate and resilient enough to avoid injuries. Susan's injury is a result of her own incompetence. She deserves it. By releasing Susan from prison without adequate supervision, it seems you intend to just send her back in."

"Natalie, you can't do this! I have a heart condition; I was released for medical treatment!" Susan interjected, with a hint of self-satisfaction.

Natalie chuckled. "Given your repeated attempts to harm me, I have every reason to suspect you might be mentally unstable."

Natalie turned to Oliver and asked, "Oliver, what do you think?"

"A mental hospital would indeed be a suitable place for her," Oliver responded coldly.

Natalie's words carried a mix of jest and threat, while Oliver's were blunt and terrifying.

"I'm not mentally ill! I'm not going to a mental hospital!"

A mental hospital was a place where even a sane person could become mentally ill. That place was more frightening than a prison!

"Natalie, why don't you set a condition?" James now only wanted to leave. The sooner this matter was settled, the better.

"If Susan agrees to donate her bone marrow to Lucas, I will pretend this never happened," Natalie said bluntly.

Susan immediately rejected the proposal without hesitation. "Impossible! Natalie, don't even think about it!"

The bone marrow was Susan's final bargaining chip. She could not agree so readily!

Natalie had already anticipated Susan's lack of cooperation. "In that case, you can await the court summons. You have experience in court, but you probably lack experience in a mental hospital."

"Oliver, let's go," Natalie said as she linked arms with Oliver.

"Natalie, wait!" Helen called out anxiously, "Are you really going to be so ruthless? Do you know how much Susan has suffered in prison? And now she is injured, why are you so harsh? Lucas is just an outsider!"

Natalie felt this was absurd. She paused, not turning back as she said, "Helen, to me, you're the outsiders."

Lucas was part of her family.

As Oliver hugged Natalie and walked away, they exchanged a glance as they passed Jamie.

Helen and Caleb followed them but were stopped by Jamie.

"Jamie, I come not to plead for Susan, but merely to speak with Natalie," Caleb said, though he clearly intended to plead for Susan.

If Susan were to face more charges and end up in a mental hospital, her marriage with Leonard would be irreparably damaged!

"Caleb, Helen, as Natalie mentioned, as long as Susan is willing to donate her bone marrow, Natalie will let bygones be bygones," Jamie remarked with a smile, "Your thinking is too absurd if you think you can save Susan without making any sacrifice. Even if Oliver and Natalie are charitable, it shouldn't be so."

Jamie had always been able to articulate his thoughts well. He continued, "Inappropriate as it may sound, even beggars know to say thank you when you give them ten dollars. Are you worse than beggars, or is Susan's life not even worth ten dollars?"

"Jamie!" Helen was almost about to strike him.

"That's enough!" Samuel intervened, his expression one of boredom as he looked at Caleb and Susan. He then asked Jamie, "Can we take Susan away now?"

Jamie, who held a positive impression of Samuel and was aware of the nuanced relationship between Natalie and Samuel, responded politely, "Of course if that's what you want."

"Samuel, are we leaving just like this?" Caleb was still resentful. His life had been smooth for decades, and he had never been so frustrated. The frustration he had endured over the past decades paled in comparison to what he was experiencing with Natalie!

"You don't want to leave? Are you Not waiting for someone to invite you to dinner?"

Caleb choked, unable to reply. After a moment, he said, "What I mean is, this is a hospital; we need to take care of Susan's injuries."

If there were any disabilities or disfigurements, even if things were settled, Leonard and Ashford would not agree to marry Susan.

In Caleb's opinion, Susan was not the biological daughter of the Hastings family, yet the Hastings family had raised Susan for many years, providing immeasurable financial support and affection. Thus, even if Susan did not repay the family with honor, the least she could do was marry well.

"Caleb, are you... this is Oliver's hospital."

Samuel nearly blurted out, 'Are you confused?'

‘Forget it, it's not worth it if he got sick from anger,’ Samuel thought to himself.

Susan was subsequently transferred by the Hastings family to another private hospital for treatment.

Samuel, not wanting to shuttle back and forth due to Susan's condition, was relieved that the Hastings family had brought in their subordinates.

"What are you looking at?" James, having nothing else to say to Caleb and Helen, turned to Samuel.

"Photos." Samuel showed baby photos on his phone.

The baby was very cute, especially due to the serious expression on his face.

James was half puzzled and half shocked. Then, Samuel's words confirmed his guess.

"He's Natalie's son, Nathan."

Upon hearing this, Caleb leaned over to take a look.

"Isn't he handsome?" Samuel asked Caleb and James with a sideways glance.

James and Caleb unconsciously nodded. The baby was indeed handsome.

With such features, how could he not be handsome?

"He was originally the grandson of the Hastings family, but now he has no relation to the family at all," Samuel said. A hint of glee could be seen on his face when he spoke.

"You!" James exclaimed, visibly furious.

"I'm leaving."

Samuel stood up, swiftly pocketing his phone to prevent Caleb and James from glimpsing any more of Nathan's photos.

"Where are you going?" Caleb asked, his interest piqued; he also wanted to see Nathan.

"To deal with Susan's mess," Samuel replied mockingly, nodding toward Sarah's ward.

With no reason to stop Samuel, Caleb sighed deeply. He could not understand how things developed into the current situation.

James glanced at Caleb and rose to his feet. "I'm leaving too."

"Where are you going?" Caleb inquired, frowning.

"Back to the hotel." James lacked the patience to accompany Susan.

The doctor treated Susan's injuries. Although her arm was severely fractured, it was not a complicated fix, and the hospital had scheduled surgery for the afternoon, which would ensure no lasting damage.

After speaking to the doctor, Caleb felt no inclination to remain at the hospital any longer and decided to return to the hotel.

When Susan emerged from the operating room, the effects of the anesthesia had faded. After waiting for a considerable time without any sign of her family, she questioned the nurse.

"Susan, didn't your family tell you? They all left; your father and grandfather departed hours ago. Oh, your mother ordered a meal for you. I'll bring it to you."

Susan felt a chill run through her. Sitting rigidly, she processed the reality.

They had all left. The Hastings family had left, leaving her alone while she was injured. How could they abandon her when she was in such a state?

As the sound of the meal cart neared, the young nurse delivered the meal that Helen had ordered for Susan. She recognized Susan, who had once frequently appeared online, though not for commendable reasons—plagiarism, attempting to interfere in someone else’s marriage as a mistress, even an attempt to murder Natalie...

'It's better to have less contact with such a person,' the nurse thought.

After delivering the meal, she quickly left the ward.

Meanwhile, in a fit of anger, Susan smashed the plate and cutleries to the ground.

The paranoia and ferocity in her eyes intensified.

Suddenly, her phone started ringing.

"Susan."

The male voice on the other end made Susan shiver involuntarily, her already pale complexion turning even paler.

After a few seconds, she replied dryly, "Yes."

"Are you in Paykston?"

"Yes."

The person on the line seemed satisfied with her answer. He said, "Come to the Emperor Hotel tonight."

Susan was shocked. "No! I just had surgery today. I'm not lying to you, my hand is bandaged."

"Your arm is injured, it doesn't affect your ability to have sex."

Anticipating Susan’s refusal, the caller added menacingly, "By the way, I'll help you see if your face can still maintain its current appearance."

Susan realized with dread that this was definitely a threat.
