Chapter 297 Oliver, You Wouldn't Understand!

Oliver spent an uneasy afternoon in his office, grappling with discomfort in his stomach. He did not know if the discomfort was from anger or hunger.

When Natalie called, Oliver thought to himself, ‘At least she has a little bit of conscience!’

His mood lifted at the sight of Natalie's name flashing on his phone. However, he still waited for a moment before he answered the call.

“Oliver, does Jacob’s departure from the show have anything to do with you?” Natalie’s voice was devoid of any warmth when she spoke.

This was the first time Oliver heard Natalie speak so vehemently. To think it was all because of a male idol. With this, he was even more certain that it was right to drive Jacob away.

"Yes, and what of it?" Oliver responded defiantly.

Natalie momentarily closed her eyes to compose herself. After a moment, she said with an icy gaze, “Do you view everyone as playthings? Do you think you can toy with our lives and get rid of someone without justification? Will you also abandon them once they no longer interest you?"

‘Now that Susan is back, are you going to abandon our marriage?’

“Did you call me just to defend another man?” Oliver asked. His attempt to maintain his composure was shattered by Natalie questioning him on Jacob’s behalf.

"Have you considered the repercussions of your actions on everyone involved? You wield your power without thought…” Natalie said, frustration evident in her voice, “Forget it, you won’t understand…”

She knew he was stubborn and was used to doing things his way.

"Make me understand then! I don’t understand, then does Jacob understand?” Oliver asked. His hand was gripping the phone so tightly that his knuckles turned white. He was angered by her refusal to communicate and her dismissive attitude.

Natalie's patience wore thin. She said threateningly, “I don’t want to talk nonsense with you. You better not interfere with the show unless you plan to force me to leave!”

She could not let her personal affairs affect her work. Oliver’s behavior was simply rude and overbearing.

After Natalie hung up, the silence in Oliver's office was deafening and suffocating.

Coincidentally, Lilian, unable to stay away, sought Oliver out to discuss the rumors swirling around him, only to witness him smashing his phone into pieces against the wall. She thought to herself, ‘It seems like my timing could’ve been better.’

When Oliver saw Lilian, he asked Charles, who had let Lilian in, “Why didn’t you knock?”

“I did,” Charles replied innocently. Under normal circumstances, he would knock and enter even if there was no response from Oliver. Oliver had never had an issue with it until now.

"What brings you here?" Oliver asked, regaining his composure and looking like the aloof Oliver Windsor again.

Lilian, undeterred by his coldness, asked, displeased, “Did you lose interest in Natalie because Susan came back?”

Charles tensed, frightened by how blunt Lilian was. He was terrified when he saw the look in Oliver’s eyes.

"Who has been filling your head with such nonsense?" Oliver asked, barely restraining his anger.

Lilian stood her ground and replied, "No one told me anything; I pieced it together myself. Although you removed all those articles regarding you and Susan, the netizens are still discussing this. Everyone’s saying you’re going to divorce Natalie!”

"Nonsense!” Oliver said empathetically, “Natalie wouldn’t think about divorce!”

“It’s not about what Natalie might think. I’m saying that everyone thinks you’re going to divorce her. Everyone’s saying that you’re a womanizer just like every other wealthy man. Oliver, how can you cheat on your wife? I’ve lost all my respect for you!” Lilian said without concealing her disappointment.

Oliver suppressed the urge to throw Lilian out of his office. If she was not his cousin, someone he grew up with, she would have paid the price for speaking in such a manner.

"Why don’t you say anything about Natalie and Jacob?” Oliver asked impatiently.

Lilian appeared genuinely confused as she said, "Huh? I heard that Jacob didn’t like Natalie at first, but he changed after Jane scolded him."

Realization seemed to dawn on Oliver at this moment. “Jacob didn’t like Natalie?”

"That’s right,” Lilian said. She finally figured it out and said, “Don’t tell me you think there’s something between them?”

Seeing his silence, she knew she had guessed right. She said with an expression of disbelief, "Why would you be jealous? Let me tell you. Although I dislike Lucas, I have to say Jacob makes Lucas look good in comparison. He’s three years older than Natalie, but he shamelessly curried favor with her and Lucas just to play games with them!”

After taking a sip of water, Lilian continued, not holding back her words, “If my boyfriend were as possessive as you, I would’ve left long ago!”

Oliver, after a brief pause, said, "Charles, bring up the footage from the show."

Reflecting on his reaction, Oliver was torn. He was happy that there was nothing going on between Natalie and Jacob, but at the same time, he was annoyed by his misunderstanding and the way he had dealt with the issue.

Thinking back to Natalie's call, he began to understand her anger.

He doubted her because he saw a few seemingly intimate interactions between her and Jacob. He should have known better. After all, she was someone who knew her boundaries. Even when Roger tried to pursue her under the guise of a friend, she continued to maintain an appropriate distance.

However, the photos, showing Jacob and Natalie’s close proximity when the former applied makeup for the latter and the photos of them playing games together where Jacob would occasionally poke her and she would respond with a smile, clouded his judgment.
