Chapter 497

"Samuel, I... what should I do now?" Susan was truly panicking now.

Samuel, still calm, asked with a hint of amusement, “Weren’t you very cool and calm earlier?”

Due to Natalie’s scheme, Susan was not only embarrassed in front of Oliver, but she had also lost her standing in the Hastings family. However, it was only now that the full weight of her situation dawned on her. Oliver was not going to come to her rescue, and he was forcing her to marry.

“Samuel, you have to help me!”

Susan clutched at Sam's hands, seeking support. He had been her rock, cleaning up after her since they were children and held a dear place in her heart.

“Susan, I’ve advised you before, but you dismissed it,” Samuel said, gently wiping away his sister’s tears. However, if one took a closer look, one would be able to see the chill in his gaze.

“B-but you advised me to apologize to Natalie! I wasn’t at fault! Why should I apologize? It’s Natalie who schemed against me!” Susan argued.

"Susan, whether it was Natalie's scheme or not, you can’t prove your innocence, so you have to bear the blame. If you’d apologized earlier, it was likely that Natalie would have let the matter pass. However, you refused to apologize, so Oliver demanded that you get married within six months. You brought this upon yourself.”

Susan said defiantly, “No, I will not bow to anyone, especially not to Natalie!”

They were still within the confines of Rosewood Estate, Oliver and Natalie's home. Unsurprisingly, Susan’s words and actions were met with disapproving glances from the staff, who could scarcely conceal their disdain.

Samuel could not help but roll his eyes, asking, “Why are you so obsessed with Natalie?”

"We’re arch-enemies! There’s no way for us to get along!” Susan said venomously. Her usual grace had completely disappeared.

Samuel only shook his head in exasperation. He had never seen Susan lose her composure to this degree before, and it was also the first time he had seen her harbor so much animosity toward another person.

“Mrs. Windsor, it seems like you’ve been in good hands. Your recovery surpassed all expectations; your bones have realigned beautifully,” the doctor said, pointing at the X-ray images for Natalie and Oliver to see.

Natalie sighed in relief, and a smile bloomed on her face.

The doctor was just about to congratulate Natalie when he noticed Oliver’s icy expression. He gulped. Confused, he decided to skip the pleasantries and said, "Let the bone heal for another week, and then we can remove the cast. You’ll notice some muscle atrophy, but don’t worry, a couple of weeks of physical therapy should take care of that."

After thanking the doctor, Natalie shared the good news with her worried friends

….

Back at Rosewood Estate, she busied herself with sorting through her belongings.

"Natalie, Oliver has gone abroad for work, so he won’t be back for dinner,” Liam said.

She paused before asking, "When will he be coming back?"
