Chapter 1082 What Are You Jealous Of?
"Anthony, come with me!" Ann said to Anthony, then turned to the surrounding guests and Delilah, exchanged a few pleasantries, and with a heavy face, holding back her anger, led Anthony towards a secluded area.
As soon as they reached a place with no one around, Ann exploded.
"Anthony, do you really have to choose to be with Jane? What's wrong with Delilah? Delilah was once as famous as Jane. You like socialites, and I found you a socialite. What more do you want? Huh!"
"Mom, you still don't get it," Anthony said coldly. "I don't like socialites; I just like Jane. If you can accept Jane, that's great. If not, it doesn't matter."
"What do you mean it doesn't matter? You're my son. The woman you choose is my daughter-in-law. How can it not matter to me?" Ann asked excitedly.
"I said Jane's your daughter-in-law. I love her, and that's enough." Anthony said, "Stop thinking about all those other things. I'm not interested in Delilah."
Jane was not in the center of the party, but there were still a few guests around.
Jane had always been a walking spotlight since she was a child. The surrounding guests had long noticed Jane, especially now that the Clark family's servants and bodyguards were clearly protecting her.
Some people wanted to greet Jane, but before they could get close, they were stopped by the bodyguards, who used a set of polite yet firm words to block them.
Jane looked down at her magazine, seemingly unaware of the guests and bodyguards' actions. Anyone with eyes could see that Jane didn't want to interact with them.
"Ms. Watkins." Suddenly, a familiar female voice came through.
Jane looked up and saw Aurora in a simple white wedding dress, as expected.
Aurora said, "Ms. Watkins, you really know how to make such a grand scene, with so many servants protecting you. Anyone who didn't know would think you were the precious mistress of the Clark family." Aurora was blocked by the bodyguards and couldn't get close to Jane. "Aren't you going to talk to me?"
"The number of people protecting me is a testament to my influence, and it's none of your concern," Jane replied.
She didn't let Aurora get too close, only allowing her to approach a bit.
"Jane, what do you mean?" Aurora was very dissatisfied with the bodyguards still blocking her.
"Obviously, I'm guarding against you. Can't you see that?" Jane put the magazine aside. "Aurora, you and I both know what you've done to me. I'm pregnant now and can't risk my life and my baby's."
Who knew if Aurora would suddenly go crazy and attack her.
"You went to great lengths to meet me here. Just say what you want to say," Jane urged.
Aurora was momentarily speechless, looking at Jane angrily, as if she were the culprit who ruined her life.
Jane, being extremely smart, gradually sensed it.
She had a guess and looked at Aurora leisurely. "You didn't call me here just to show off, did you?"
Aurora gritted her teeth and pursed her lips. After half a second, she asked Jane, "Show off what?"
She wanted to see what Jane thought she had to show off.
Aurora's behavior was like someone lacking confidence, always needing others' affirmation.
However, she miscalculated.
Jane stood up from the sofa, stretched her waist, and spoke nonchalantly, "You probably want me to know that even without Anthony, you still have Hubert as an option and have become Mrs. Clark of the Clark family, right? In the entire South City, your status is very high. And you gave Hubert a son, reaching this position through your child, right?"
Aurora subconsciously raised her chin.
Yes, that was exactly what she thought.
Now, many people in the circle envied her.
Jane's mouth curled into a mocking smile as she continued, "You might also think that I'm not as lucky—though pregnant with Anthony's child, I'm not recognized by Ann; I can't become Mrs. Clark of our family; my child will be an illegitimate child, not as good as your child, right?"
As Jane spoke, she observed Aurora's reaction. From the excitement on her face, it was clear that her guess was spot on.
"Exactly!" Aurora smoothed her hair. "You have some self-awareness, no wonder you were once the top socialite."
Aurora emphasized the word "once."
"No, Aurora, I'm just curious. Have the past ten years of your education been in vain? Is there anything in your mind besides becoming Mrs. Clark? And you certainly don't have a picky taste, do you?"
Jane's sarcasm was too obvious, and her attitude was in stark contrast, drawing the attention of the surrounding bodyguards and servants.
Aurora's face changed slightly. "What are you talking about!"
"You can't marry Anthony, so you settle for Hubert instead. If that's not having no standards, what is?"
Hubert was notorious in South City for being unproductive. In terms of family background, looks, or talent, he was far inferior to Anthony. Moreover, Hubert had a bunch of mistresses outside. Jane was surprised that Aurora was so proud of marrying such a man.
"Jane, shut up!" Aurora was hit where it hurt and hissed.
Indeed, she looked down on Hubert from the bottom of her heart.
Having liked a man like Anthony, how could she ever look at Hubert?
"Are you angry out of shame?" Jane mocked.
"Jane, who are you to talk down to me when you've got no standing of your own?" Aurora tried to suppress Jane with her identity as Mrs. Aurora Clark.
Because Jane was no longer the socialite of the Watkins family, she had no family backing, nor a husband.
"Aurora, if I have no standing, would you have specially invited me? Would you be so angry now?"
